      Au hasard des rues

      September 24, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

🤭 Bonne nuit ! Souhaitez-nous bonne chance !!! 🤣

      Durch die Tower Bridge!

      April 9, 2022 in England ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

😄Read more

      London Calling!

      April 7, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

      London (Pt 1 - St Paul's & Tower Bridge)

      July 14, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

This evening we walked from our hotel next to St Paul's Cathedral to the Tower Bridge (often misidentified as the London Bridge) and then back again via the Globe and the Millennium Bridge. These pictures are of St Paul's, the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge.Read more

      Saw the london sights

      March 20 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

It took us a while to get around to it but we finally made the trip into London while it was daytime and checked out the city. We saw the Thames, London Bridge, tower Bridge, the shard, the eye, the big Ben, Buckingham palace and a bunch of black taxis. London reminds me a lot of Perth, there's a surprisingly small amount of skyscrapers in the cbd and all the older landmarky type buildings in the city are just like the old buildings in Perth. I think the big Ben was my favourite, walking along the bridge towards it felt like a real quintessentially London experience with all the red double decker buses, the bells chiming and Westminster abbey being all regal in the background. I was very underwhelmed with Buckingham palace however, it's so bland and the shade of the concrete on the front wall is darker than the sides which just made it look so unkempt, it's like they did a renovation and then just gave up before it was finished. The silly guards💂‍♂️ were there stomping on the spot n stuff but they were wearing black uniforms instead of the cool red ones.

Yesterday we went to Wimbledon which was sensational. Neither of us were particularly interested in seeing the museum so we only walked around the outside of the tennis club, it was a lovely facility and bigger than I was expecting but the main observation we made was that the place is insanely over staffed, they had so many security guards and groundsmen all just standing around doing nothing, it was so over the top and I loved it!
The whole area surrounding the club was just so pristine and perfectly presented. It was to the point that even the driveways of the houses were catching my attention by being too clean, like I dont know how they do it but it was the first time I've ever walked past a driveway and just thought "wow that's a suuuper clean driveway", I was completely bowled over ahaha. The streets were all covered with beautiful trees and lush green bushes, and the houses were covered in vines and had mossy rooves which was so cool. All the font yards were so immaculate and had insanely lush lawns which usually puts me in a bit of a mood because it's very water wastey but England is really rainy so maybe these people are alright. (My phone ran out of battery so no pics :/ )

In the evening we went out for dinner and some drinks with Sam's parents which was fun :).

      London

      July 31, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

      Hallo London!

      Last hurrah

      March 9, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

Today we said Au revior to France and headed back to London on the Eurostar for our last night before jet setting back home tomorrow night.
The metro with bags and kids was pretty stressful (I actually slightly blubbered when we managed to all get off intact and not lose anyone…or any limbs) and I know why the French are so fit- they have a love for stairs. Even in the underground and at train stations. Great big flights of steps. This with suitcases is a winning combination for biceps of steel. And more so, a wife that huffed and puffed and thought she could… with a face like the little red engine. Needless to say- we made it!!
And realistically, we have put the kids through a lot, and in hindsight, expected them to be very responsible little people, considering their age. And they have (mostly- there have definitely been moments!!) taken it completely in their stride, and just gotten on with it. We are very proud of the capable little people they can be.
So we are back in London! For our last hurrah, the girls have some precious spending money they have been saving for one particular shop… the Harry Potter shop at Kings Cross Station (platform 9 3/4 of course… you know if you know…).
Yes Nan! Audrey finally used her birthday money here!!!! Poor Nick was left outside for… awhile… while the girls and I meandered our way through HP merchandise headquarters. It was epic 😀 There is no longer a closet for me to hide in. I was just as excited as the girls. Nick continued to wait…
We got a photo on the platform (this was an experience in itself. A persons ACTUAL job is to let you chose a house scarf, place it on you and throw the end of it in the air at the photographers instruction to create a perfect picture. An ACTUAL job. Sign me up for retirement.)
We had our last hurrah (cause why not keep supporting the local economy right?!) and took the girls to see Matilda the musical. It. Was. FABULOUS. Really, I would be doing it an injustice to have my mere mortal words explain how fantastic this production is. And the majority of the cast are kids. Very very talented kids. Audrey has now put this on her list of things she wants to do other than being an author and Olympic gymnast. I told her she was already dramatic enough 😏 (Olive still happy to join her sister in the Olympics… and also walk dogs for a job… 😜). I digress- the show was fab, the cast was wonderful, the stage was amazing and the music was indescribably great (Tim Minchin, one of our fave Aussie comedian/singers/actors wrote the words and music for this show). The girls loved it and sat mesmerized. But the person who loved it the most was the big fella (as Olive now refers to Nick).
All in all, a really wonderful way to go out with a bang.
Back to home tomorrow,, we are missing our family and friends (and our fur babies). We are happy and slightly weary, but mostly very thankful and grateful that we have gotten to have so many wonderful experiences and spent so much precious time together as a family.

      Final Day In London

      July 16, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Well... after a lot of debate and working through the pros and cons with each side presenting some compelling arguments, we decided not to stalk Reese Witherspoon today and instead try and hit some things we would probably regret not doing.

First on the agenda was to go back to Notting Hill and buy a book that Dylan wanted to get. That was an eye opening experience as Notting Hill on a Saturday is very different from a Wednesday as the picture I took illustrates. But we managed to part the crowd like Moses and the burning bush, get that book, and escape with no major difficulties.

Next we tracked down a couple more filming locations from the Notting Hill movie and while we were at it I took out the big camera for some artsy photos. I was having fun while at the same time annoying the family. It was a good day.

Next we jumped on the subway to head over to St. Paul's Cathedral. Again.... subway on a Saturday is very different and my claustrophobic wife was experiencing some... uh... tense moments with the number of people who manage to fit inside a moving metal projectile.

After the cathedral we were off to find the market that inspired Diagon Alley from Harry Potter... which we thought we found but actually didn't. But that didn't dampen our mood because next we were off to walk the Tower Bridge. And it just so happens we were within 20 minutes of them opening it for a boat so we stuck around to watch that.

Then we walked up the South Bank all the way to the Millennium Bridge so we could cross it ( that one was mine). And after all that we headed back to our apartment so we could pack things up and plan our day in Bath tomorrow (if this heat wave doesn't wreck our plans.... fingers crossed).

So, that concludes our time here in London. Amazing time but we are ready to go. The next big step in the trip is Paris so everyone is getting excited for that. But I know we are leaving here with many fond memories. Until tomorrow.

      London Eye und Tower Bridge

      October 6, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

      Tower Bridge

      April 20, 2017 in England ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C
