Heute Morgen bin ich mit Verena aufgestanden und haben dann mit unseren beiden Gastgebern klein aber fein gefrühstückt.🥰

Dann sind wir mit dem Pastor zusammen in die Innenstadt gefahren. Die beiden wohnen fast eine Stunde mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel von der King‘s Cross Station entfernt, weshalb es sehr gut war, dass wir in die Stadt mitgenommen werden konnten. 🚙

London ist eine schöne Stadt und auch in ihr gefahren zu werden, macht Spaß. ♥️🥰Read more

Angekommen im Hotel - The Lodge

Nachdem wir fleißig umgestiegen sind, kommen wir um 10:30 Uhr am Hotel an. Der erste Eindruck ist schon mal gut. Die Lobby ansprechend und die Gegend auch gut. Anscheinend gibt es in der Umgebung einige 'neighbourhoods', in die man nur per Code/Schlüsselkarte,... hineinkommt.

Wie erwartet ist unser Zimmer noch nicht bezugsfertig. Aber das ist nicht weiter schlimm, weil wir unseren Koffer im Hotel lassen können. Damit können wir unbeschwert und Sightseeing starten.

Nur leider zieht es sich gerade zu und beginnt zu tröpfeln. Mal sehen, vielleicht suchen wir uns auch gleich eine Indoor-Besichtigung.Read more

It was great spending the evening with Jessica, Chris, Toby and Lorna last night. Thanks and apologies to Toby and Lorna for the early start.

At least it’s dry and still. The underground is surprisingly busy for 7:15 on a Sunday morning. We were expecting a carriage to ourselves but there were very few seats free and it filled as we travelled closer to Earls Court. We guess they were travelling to a half marathon as someone had a number on their shirt saying that. Lots of trainers! Bun tells me I mustn’t take a picture down the carriage 😞Read more

Day 170
Fun with the cousins in Wimbledon

Lots to play and see and do with cousins Anna and Jake in Wimbledon. After a sleepless red-eye flight, we found ourselves quite literally in the middle of nowhere - a little oasis of serenity a bit to the south west of bustling London. The twins immediately co-opted Davy and Meg into sharing their room - having crafted lower “bunks” out of single air mattresses under their raised beds. Then both sides proceeded to share stories and toys - getting right down to playing with anything and everything in sight! Favourites included: swing-ball, the tree house/ cafe, circuit maze, and gravity maze. Post-lunch, we all headed out to the Wimbledon Common to wander amongst the trees. The Common is actually a beautiful woodland space, complete with its own private and public golf courses, as well as a pond.Read more

Four Days in London

In the cab on the way to Gatwick airport to leave for Spain.
During the last four days we have been to Camden Markets, walked across London Bridge, Tower Bridge, saw the London Eye up close. Didn’t buy a ticket as the line to board was way too long. Strolled through and did a little shopping at Covert Garden. Went to a theatre to see Kinky Boots. The show was fantastic. I think I was the only one in our group that didn’t have a power nap during the show.Read more

Around Wimbledon Village

Didn’t get much of a chance this time to meander around the Wimbledon Village area. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there are adequate crossing points for pedestrians and even for horses - which would presumably also permit children piggy-backed on Poppys to cross without stepping down and getting their little feet wet. There were plenty of places to eat and shop, as well as a train station with connections to central London. Last but not least, we noted the soon-to-be-opened restaurant, megan’s, that we shall surely have to try out next time we’re in this neck of the woods.Read more

Day 174
Back to school for Mommy and Poppy

So we had about two hours for a whirlwind tour of Cambridge and decided to show the kids some of our old haunts. First stop: Pembroke College, kicking it off with a reprise of one of Mommy and Poppy’s wedding photos, taken in the archway leading from the main courtyard. We toured the grounds a bit, and also the chapel where Mommy and Poppy were married. Next was a brief pause at Fitzbillies to sample their famous Chelsea buns, followed by a trot through King’s College Chapel. Good thing we told the kids in advance it was a place of worship and that we should be quiet inside - just as we opened the doors and were greeted by a cacaphony of multi-lingual tourist babble. Final stop: Trinity Hall, where we managed to fly through the chapel, check-out the grounds, locate a bathroom for the kids *and* get our afternoon punt rentals sorted - all in record time.Read more

Day 171
Climbing day at the White Spider

Awesome day out at the White Spider with Uncle Andy and the Collins family. It was great to learn a bit more about one of his favourite hobbies and so kind of him to teach Davy and Meg a thing or two about real climbing (and descending)! The kids all had a fun time climbing and also racing around in the “castle” playspace that the Spider has created for kids to start practicing climbing skills. After returning home, there was much lego to be built (with Davy thankfully setting himself up as a “moniteur”, conveniently avoiding the temptation of finishing the build quickly himself) and box forts to be assembled, demolished and reassembled again - further to Poppy’s construction of the newly delivered garden furniture.Read more
