More of the Castle Gardens
Thank goodness everyone was tired and fell asleep, because the drive down was not for the faint of heart... fortunately KK was sitting behind me, so she couldn’t see enough to be scared! Apparently, I’m a white knuckled driver on roads meant for one and where only the aggressive survive!
Amazingly, after missing a couple of turns (tbh, wasn’t sure I could go the way the GPS wanted me to go so I chickened out and figured she could find me another route!) we actually made it to our destination.
I must say, Arundel certainly makes an impression both from afar and from up close. It’s a massive fortress on a hill over looking the entire valley. Very cool!
And not to be undone, Taylor decided she’d play car bingo after all and wanted to send Connor a message, “Look what I found!”Read more
So, once we walked up the hill to the castle, it just became more impressive. Part of the castle dates from shortly after the Norman conquest and dates to the 1100’s. That includes the keep and parts of the wall and the old main gate. The remainder were rebuilt and are more from the Georgian age, the 1700’s and 1800’s. I will say, it’s a visit I’m glad we decided to make and would definitely recommend for others.
We walked to the top of the keep where we had spectacular views, but it was the apartments that stole the show, especially for Denise. The crazy thing is that since the family still lives here, they sometimes have their friends stay in some of the rooms we saw! How cool would that be, to stay in a room that Queen Victoria may have graced!
If you have the time, the car, and the will power to drive on the wrong side of the road, I say go for it!Read more
So, we are pretty sure Gamma managed to get “beamed” to Hampton Court and now we are pretty sure Doc managed to extricate himself from his physical form and took over KK’s body! Hard to see in this picture, but I’m not sure who has who cornered! I do know that we are leaving so hopefully Gamma has some chores for Doc, and KK can come back to us!Read more
Castle is done, town has been visited and it’s time to go find a bed! Fingers crossed we make it back through that devils den of a roadway, but I figure if the Vikings could hack their way across the land 1500 years ago, this Viking can get through 60 miles of rush hour traffic! Time to fuel up!Read more
