After months of planning, packing and other preparations, the day has finally arrived for us to check into our flight from Seattle to Amsterdam and on to Kilimanjaro. Arrived in Seattle yesterday and had a wonderful bon voyage dinner with Kajsa, Jason, Mari and Owen. We were joined by Gaye and Dave, Kate and Chris, Luna and Leo. Fun night and delicious food.

But wait - ahead to Thursday Delta's website has blocked our check-in. First, there's a problem with our return flight. I'd booked the over and back flights separately so I could get the best seats and fares. Got that corrected and then the next "policy" hurdle we needed to get over - presenting the credit card used to pay for the tix to Kilimanjaro. Impossible -as I has lost/misplaced that card. So after 90 minutes on two phones (Kajsa was helping out too) and Mark finding and printing a copy of the billing statement showing payment, we convinced the phone agent to override their policy. Problem solved.

I was worried about our Friday check-in so we arrived at SeaTac super early. One more hurdle - showing our Tanzanian visas (I had copies in hand) but all went smoothly and we had plenty of time to kill at the airport. Whew!Read more
