    Ride to Bend

    September 25, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Again we woke up and everything was wet due to the cold and humidity at night. However, the sky looked promising, so we started our trip towards Bend. The route led along stunning Volcanic landscape and - of course - across a pass again: Santiam Pass.
In a little cute village called Sisters, we used our lunch break to dry our tent and cloths in the sun. Then we cycled as fast as we could along the highway to our destination for the day, where we got ourselves a treat in one of the many breweries of the city.

    In and around Bend

    September 26, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

In the morning, we had a tough decision to take. As the weather forecast predicted snow for the weekend and we had planned to camp at about 2000m, we decided to rest in Bend for a few days and wait for a good weather window at the beginning of the week to continue our way South.

It's actually not a bad area for some rest days, as it offers countless outdoor activities. So first of all we went hiking along Deschutes River with Jen, our host, and her dog Luke. We also got some nice views of the nearby volcanoes (Sisters, Broken Top, Mt Bachelor).
In the afternoon, we explored Bend with its Breweries and parks.

I rode through Bend in 1985 when riding from California to Iowa. I was 17 years old, how old were you two? 🤪😉🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏻‍♂️🍻

    Bend - without an IPhone??

    November 18, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

    18th november 2019

    today we leave early.
It’s approximately 170 miles to our next stop, the small town of Bend, Oregon.
A place that has always been on our bucket list.

We checked in at noon in the "Crown Villa RV Park" and noticed at the entrance that it is a rather luxurious camping space.
The boothes here are spacious, have their own small garage for the stuff you have with you and are surrounded by rustling trees.

We were lucky and catched the last place in a wide open range all the way down the alley.
From here a small footpath leaded directly into a hiking area, which joins the RV Park. Perfect!
So, quickly water, electricity and gas hooked up, the outside table prepared for the evening and quickly jumped into our hiking boots. The dog finally wanted to romp ....

We were on track for about 3 minutes when I missed a step, slided down a dirty rock and landed on my ass.
All in all not a big deal - but... yepp, I felt it.
In my pants back pocket there was this little expensive Apple device. Fxxck!!!
The apple transformed into a banana in seconds!
    A total write-off 😫😭 [yes, there is a picture at bottom ⬇️ ]

But anyway, we followed the path downhills and found a great open landscape to stray around.

On early afternoon the sky sent some message and it looked that the rainy weather could stop soon.
Good requirement for exploring Bend and its dwellers tomorrow.

    The end

    September 30, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

After 9000 miles (14,500 km) and 35 days our trip has come to an end. The Aussies flag on our bikes has lost a few stars.
It's been a great once in a life time trip and we didn't manage to kill each other even though we had easy access to guns haha.
The Yamaha FJR 1300 bikes were great for the trip and performed great on all the windy roads we travelled.
Added a last photo of us in civies

    Bend, OR

    July 10, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

This morning we drove from Salem to Bend, through the Detroit Lake region (which looks like a totally cool place to come back to visit!). We spent the afternoon just walking around and exploring Bend before trying some of the local brews and enjoying dinner on the terrace. When checking out Bend, bring layers! It was very hot during the day, but we were straight up cold after the sun set. The restaurant we went to thankfully provided us blankets, but if they hadn’t I’m not sure we could’ve handled the temperature change.Read more
