Disney Day 1 - Animal Kingdom

      June 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Today I woke up and it was my first day of Disneyworld! I had a yoghurt for brekky with a spoon made of the yoghurt lid and I literally had to scoop peanut butter from the jar with a sandwich bag to make a sandwich as I had no knives 🤦‍♀️ I decided to uber to the park as it was quite a way. I arrived and it was very streamlined to get in. I of course chose the wrong line though and it was hilarious how impatient people already were at 8:30am of a Disney day. People, especially children already looked like they were done for the day which was hilarious. I headed to the safari tour attraction first, which was a car going through a safari park essentially. It was awesome to see so many African animals up close, they are doing a good job at promoting conversation. I even learnt that in some parts of Africa they are using bee fences to prevent elephants from destroying farmers crops. Next I walked around the African jungle trail which is just other animal exhibits. After that I went to the bird show and saw some gorgeous birds including a bald eagle #murica
Next I lined up in the rapids river ride which was standard but nice way to cool down in the 30+ degree heat, then walked through the Asian animal section. Then I headed to the Avatar flight of passage ride, as promised the line did in fact take 100 minutes to get through. During this time I:
      1. Discovered TSwift is coming to Australia and freaked out.
      2. Read a book.
      3. Watched a small child vomit into a bag his mum was holding and continue to stand in line (yes you read that correctly).
Honestly it went quickly and the ride was so worth it, no spoilers but you were strapped in to almost like a motorbike and taken around Pandora.
Next I wandered around and saw Kangaroos and Lemurs, then headed to a 4D bugs life movie. Got to witness and hear a lot of scared kiddos, the movie was quite aggressive and scary unsure why that's a kid marketed movie.
I then hit dinosaur world and rode on the dinosaur ride, which was really fun but a bit jarring. This was the moment I realised I'm infact old and can't bounce back as quickly from rides. Next was the Everest rollercoaster which was one of my favourites, it was super thrilling and unexpected. It was also awesome because it has a single rider line, so I got straight on without waiting.
I then got a frozen banana and waited for the Lion King show. The show was incredible, it was acrobatics, singing, dancing. Think a less extravagant, shorter, more lively lion king musical. Finally, I went to the other Avatar ride which was a gentle trip around Pandora, a nice way to finish the day.
I caught one of the buses back as close as I could to my hotel and walked to the IHOP just down the road from my hotel. It was a BIG day and I go again tomorrow!

      Sanna, Animal Kingdom lodge

      February 25, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We escaped the bustle of the theme park to Sanna, a resteraunt at Disney's Animal Kingdom lodge. We had their renouned bread service, and a selection of vegan curried vegetables.

To get back 'home' we decided to transfer to the skyliner at Epcot, which means walking through the park during its evening 'extra magic' hours. We took the opportunity to grab some good pictures and a quick ride on Test Track (which had opened a day early from its refurbishment). We seemed to attract a few glitches as our touch screen in the pre-ride car design area of Test Track and the speaker in our car (#32) was cutting out.Read more

We are here and everything is great!

The room is really nice and our view is out on to the Savannah where we can sit on the balcony watching giraffes and zebras walking past.

Visited Animal Kingdom and the rides here are very good, only did a couple of them, so many more to do over the next two weeks...Read more

      Orlando, Florida

      January 22, 2019 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

After breakfast disembarking from the ship went smoothly and quickly. Things went downhill from there unfortunately. We took a free shuttle to the Sixt rental car site, only to discover that there were 2 Sixt locations near the port and we were at the wrong one. Our rental location didn’t offer a shuttle so we had to pay $10 for a taxi. We arrived there around 10:30 but I had reserved the car for noon, allowing ample time for disembarkation and getting to the rental office. Well this plan backfired on me as they refused to release the car to us until noon even though it was sitting on the lot waiting to be washed. The clerk offered to put our luggage in the back room so that we could wait at a nearby restaurant. We agreed but then she came back with our luggage to inform us that the manager wouldn’t allow this. So we sat on hard stools in the main reception area for 1 1/2 hours knowing that they were playing this stupid game with us. When we finally got our car the clerk had the nerve to inform us that they strive for customer satisfaction and she would like us to rate them 5 out of 5. What a joke!

We drove 3 hours north to Orlando where we had reservations for the next 11 nights. Our first reservation was at the Holiday Inn Vacations Orange Lake Resort. We had stayed there once before and we both thought we remembered how to get there. Wrong! We eventually had to stop at a Holiday Inn for help with directions. We made a short stop at Sam’s Club for food and wine but didn’t get to the resort until 7 pm. After taking our luggage to our condo we went to a nearby Publix then got lost trying to find our way back to our condo! The resort, at over 14,000 acres, is the largest in North America with over 2,500 condos. We had to drive back to the reception building to embarrassingly ask for directions to our condo.

We have a very large 2 bedroom condo that I luckily found for $100 a night. The next few days will be a time to relax and do laundry. Since the property is so huge, we have no excuse for not continuing our daily walks. The temperature is considerably cooler than we have been experiencing. Today it was 24 but the next few days will be sunny but with temperatures only in the mid-teens. I won’t complain as I see that Environment Canada has issued an extreme weather advisory for Winnipeg!
