    Freedom Trail

November 4, 2017 in the United States

Bek and I walked the Freedom Trail from Boston Common the Bunker Hill, about 2.5 miles (4km). We journeyed through many significant sites in Boston's history including Paul Revere's house (he is very well revered in Boston) and the USS constution. My highlight was climbing the 294 steps of the Bunker Hill monument (I am so unfit) where the views across Boston were spectatular.Read more

The locals have been very friendly 😃

    Let's go Bruins

November 4, 2017 in the United States

We went to an NHL Ice Hockey game and it was insane! The stadium must have been close to capacity and it took us a good half hour to get inside beacuse only 1 gate was open due renovations. Once inside, it was so awesome. Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals and the crowd was very boisterous and the play was intense. However, there was no flying V which is probably why Boston lost 2-3!Read more

    Cuppa tea time?

November 3, 2017 in the United States

We did a hop on hop off tour of Boston today and spent a bit of time at the Boston Tea Party museum which included throwing crates of tea overboard and drinking hot tea to celebrate. We also went to Quincy markets for lunch and a Blue Man Group performance - loved it all.

    Adventures in Boston

November 5, 2017 in the United States

While Meaghan & Bek walked the Freedom Trail (I'd walked this a couple times on previous trips) I had my own adventure on the train out to the LL Bean store- train delayed, hopped on the wrong train- found myself bound for Philadelphia!, then after I finally arrived couldn't find my way back to the train station to return to Boston- not sure if this met my criteria of 'having fun' but I did buy a couple of LL Bean treasures! Afternoon then spent looking through the historic Gibson House on Beacon Hill.Read more

    Hockey sticks ready!

November 5, 2017 in the United States

Go the Boston Bruins- we think Bruin is a bear. We're surrounded by Yellow yelling supporters as the Boston home team played (dismally according to the colourful comments yelled from the guy behind us) the away New York team who won 3 goals to 2. Great night at the ice hockey 🏒

    USA Tour - Boston, Massachusetts

November 14 in the United States

So... this is it. The start of my big adventure, although weirdly I’m not nervous or worried at all. Not even a little bit. I’m so excited I don’t have time for thoughts like that. I just want today to start ASAP. I flew into Providence, Rhode Island which is the next state over and got a train from there into Boston. The train journey was pretty uneventful as was the flight over to be fair. But as soon as I stepped out of that station, and saw Boston for the first time, it was at that moment I knew I couldn’t waste a second or let a moment pass me by.

The lights, the sounds and the ice cold air hitting me in the face was a feeling I won’t forget.

It was quite late when I got all checked into my hostel which was ‘HI BOSTON’ so I decided to go for a drink and then get some sleep ready for my first full day on my adventure....

    USA Tour - Boston, Massachusetts

November 15 in the United States

First full day in Boston and I was up and out early in the crisp, cold fresh morning. Today I was visiting Fenway
Park, which was a fair way away from the Hostel but I always walk when I’m away, I only use public transport when absolutely necessary. And I’m glad I didn’t use public transport as I’d of missed all the beautiful scenery, the sounds, watching people go about their lives.

Fenway Park was cool - real old school stadium, a lot smaller than what you’d think but it has real character. I even got to sit where Brad Pitt sat in the film ‘Moneyball’ I also managed to explore the local area and had a few beers in the ‘cask n flagon’ which is a huge bar next to the stadium where so the fans go.

After Fenway park I walked downtown which again is a fair old walk but it was brilliant. I went to the prudential tower in Boston to go to the skywalk observatory which gives you amazing views of the city. I spent over an hour in here just watching the sky get darker and the city getting brighter.

After I left here I went down to the Charles river and walked along the esplanade back towards Chinatown where I was staying - this was around a 3 mile walk right across the city’s riverfront.

To get to Chinatown you have to cut through Boston Common park, and on the edge of the park is the pub ‘Cheers’ so I just had to go in for a quick pint of beer... who wouldn’t?

Then as I left cheers to walk through the park the best thing happened - it started snowing.

Couldn’t ask for a better way to end the perfect day!
