      Chicago Crown Fountain

      August 15, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Read more

      The Plunge!

      February 26, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ -3 °C

Up and early for breakfast in the grand old drawing room of our hotel (Chicago Athletic) before crossing the road to check out the Bean. Sadly some twat had graffitied it (made the news) but it didn’t stop us/me trying to get all the wanky photos. It was such a gorgeous day with bright blue skies and crisp snow everywhere so we walked along the lake to the beach where the Polar plunge was due to take place. The guys had managed to shovel throw about 5 feet of icy snow to make a walkway into the lake which thankfully wasn’t frozen. It was an amazing atmosphere down at the beach and they had raised $40,000 already at this point. I was on video and bag duty which made me feel useful as I watched everyone dunk themselves in the lake. In two minds as to whether I was sad not to be doing it but I was heard saying on numerous times that I’d do it next year as long as someone holds the baby 🤦🏻‍♀️
After the plunge we walked back to the hotel for Phil to thaw out then headed out to a bar to meet up with the others. Shots after shots were drunk which made for fun watching. Phil had been awake for hours by this point so we headed out for a deep dish pizza (undecided but definitely got gout now) then crashing in bed.

      Liverpool, fish, buildings and Cindys

      February 27, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 2 °C

We both woke up at 3 cursing jet lag and waited around until it was a reasonable time to get up. We went for breakfast at Wildberrys opposite Millennium Park and were served an obscene amount of food. I genuinely don’t know how they expect anyone to eat that much. We’re both pigs but couldn’t get anywhere near to finishing it. We then waddled along the street for a bit before hopping in a cab to a bar which boasts itself as being the official Liverpool supporters bar in Chicago. It was a good job we got there when we did as it was rammed. Turns out Americans love English football and there was a very strong Chicago contingent getting through pints at 9:30. The game went on for approximately 33 hours thanks to no goals in the game or 30 minutes of extra time. After penalties we finally got a Liverpool win so left to go to the Shed which is a really nice aquarium. Not much more to say than that. It had fish and was nice. We walked back along the shore and then headed to do a boat tour which went along the river and gave loads of information about all the Chicago architecture. Sounds boring but was really good. Layering up more was a massive error though as the sun went down and so did our core body temperatures. We legged it back to the hotel after to get warm and have dinner at Cindys which is on the roof of the hotel. We managed to stay up til 9pm!Read more
