    Into Balloon Fiesta Park

    October 9, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Had rough start to our day. Had a major mishap getting out of RV park this morning. Some exterior damage to coach. However Tom pulled it together and he lead our caravan of 3 RVs to the park successfully. We had a catered BBQ dinner tonight and heard a talk by 2 balloon pilots. One had a square basket with 2 burners and the other a triangular basket with 1 burner. Took a picture of the mountain at sunset. Supposed to get cold tonight. Hope balloons will go off in the AM.Read more

    Amazing Day!

    October 10, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Started at 6 AM on the balloon field. It was too windy today as the cold front is coming do the Dawn Patrol balloons did not even go up. The special shape balloons blew up but did not fly today. Turtle balloon on the ground, blowing up with the fan and then up with hot air burner. So by 8:40 balloons were down so we headed to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. We hiked up a slot canyon. It was about 4 miles round trip. The peaks were formed from lava. I have many more amazing photos from today!Read more

    Balloons, balloons, balloons!

    October 11, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Up at 6AM for the Dawn Patrol. The first balloons to go up and test the wind. Then the mass ascension of hundreds of balloons. Then more balloons coming into the field and trying to drop beanbags on a target or throw a ring over a pole. All that was over by 9AM. It was in the 30's this morning. We bundled up. High 60's later in the day.
We had lunch at El Pinto with the whole rally group. Then we visited the Balloon Museum. There is still Balloon Glow and fireworks tonight!

    Balloons and Petroglyphs

    October 12, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Started the day early and watched the Dawn Patrol leave and then the winds brought them back and then they headedt. The mass ascension began and you could see hundreds of balloons in the sky at the same time. The rally provided breakfast burritos today. They were quite tasty with green chilies. Then Tom, Denise and I went to Petroglyph National Monument. We went to the visitor center first for a short movie and then you could drive to 3 different locations to see the petroglyphs. We went to Boca Negra Canyon. Native American ancestors scratched the petroglyphs into the volcanic rock.
Balloon Glow and fireworks yet to come this evening.

    Balloon Glow and Fireworks

    October 12, 2019 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

The almost full moon rising over the Sandia Mountains. The balloon glow from the field. There must have been at least 100 tethered balloons with burners firing. When the balloons deflated there were 4 sky divers with pyrotechnics and a wonderful fireworks show! Beautiful evening!Read more
