      The Hook

      October 8, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

For the evening I had a ticket for "The Hook". A variety show. And what happened then, I could not imagine in my wildest dreams. I'll try to summarize the whole thing. I had booked one of the last free seats in the last row. Last row in this case means bar stools behind the last tables with bench seats, far away from the stage. I was led to the seat and next to me sat a woman with her drink. She was also alone and we struck up a conversation. The show started. The opening already had its first surprise when the top of a huge ship came crashing through the curtain, interrupting the opening by Dick, the showmaster. A hatch opened and the captain came on stage with her crew. Funny. Entertaining. Something new for a change. Then the show started. A pole dance number. Then a loop artistry act by two artists high above the stage. Then a staff member came up to the two of us and asked if we would prefer to sit further forward. We said yes. He called us to a curtain at the side, handed us over to a colleague who led us right next to the stage to the front row. Wow. Dick did a musical number. Then a contortionist. A magician and my first stint as a helper, I had to cut a sheet of paper with a razor blade to prove it was sharp before he swallowed it. So far okay. Then came a performer with a hovering act on a hoop. Then a stripper. Then a juggling act between two men began. They threw three cones at each other very aggressively and started taking off their clothes in the process. Another artist came up to us, took our table away and whispered that we should get ready. Ready? Ready for what? The jugglers struggled down the stage undressing, one getting closer to me, the other to my counterpart on the other side of the stage. We had to stand up, they got on our chairs. We were told to sit a little off to the side of the stage. They started to take off their pants and threw them on our table neighbors. Applause. Number seemed to end. Nope, the whole thing backwards. So another juggling match and the request for us to help him into his pants. So we put them on together. He swung his hips and shouted zipper. As his pants zipped up, he jumps off the chair, they exit the stage and the act is over. What just happened here 😅 there were then two more numbers, the artists had less and less on and then at the end everyone came to dance and high-five, because we have participated so great. After the show, where we now after we knew each other only 30 minutes already dressed an almost naked man together, we finally introduced ourselves by name. And if Samantha from New Jersey finds this blog, thanks for the great evening Sam! It was nice to meet you. The two service staff we have then also still enlightened that we did not know each other before. They thought it was super funny. Great crew at "The Hook", clear recommendation if you like laughing at dick jokes and revealing artistry. (I made no pictures in the front row, sadly.)

Eine Varieté Show. Die Show fing an. Lustig. Unterhaltsam. Mal was neues. Danach ging die Show los. Also zogen wir ihn gemeinsam an.
