The Florida Four Are Back Together

      May 13 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We head to the furthest point of the island to meet Fi and Mark by The City Pier. It's a pier so we have a walk to the end for a spot of of light refreshment and a catch up.

Next up is a ride on the free Trolley bus into the centre of the town for a stroll and a bit of shopping.

We have a sit on the swinging chairs at the end of the jettiy before getting something to eat.

      Fish Supper

      May 13 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We have our meal at The Beach House Waterfront Restaurant and sit at a table right on the beach.

We all have fish of some sort, Fi and Mark have Salmon, Martin has Stuffed Hake and I have Fried Shrimp with a portion of Fried Green Tomatoes for us all to try.

After the meal and a quick paddle we wait for the Trolleybus to take us back to the car and continue our journey to tonight's stay at Dunedin.

Our route off the island back to the mainland is via The Sunshine Sky Bridge, 4.4 miles long and 430 ft high, we make it to our destination as the sun sets.

      Coquina Beach

      May 13 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Back in the car and as we reach the Island we see a sign for Coquina Beach and stop to have a look.

There is a huge car park with picnic benches, toilets, showers and changing rooms and it's all free.

The beach is amazing, huge with soft white sand, so off we head for a paddle.

On the way back to the car we see signs for a Farmer's Market so have a look at that, not sure where the farmer's come into it as there is only 1 food stall, all the others are craft stalls.

      Another Day, Another Drive

      May 13 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Today we are meeting up with Fi and Mark on Anna Maria Island. We head down Interstate 41 along the coast road again, more beautiful houses and stunning views, the sea is either turquoise or green. After a while Martin spots a little inlet with parking so we pull over for a look.

The sand is white, the sea is clear and the view is beautiful.

      Clearwater Beach

      July 26 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Naples - Clearwater - St Augustine

      June 19, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Managed to get to the 7 Mile Bridge over the Keys before another heavy thunderstorm hit us and followed us most of the way. Still, we enjoyed the country music on the way. As we arrived at Naples on the Gulf of Mexico coast, the weather cleared and we had a lovely walk around this beautiful city. It is very clean and upmarket with classy designer shops and fine restaurants. The homes lining the palm tree 🌴 avenues were gorgeous, and the area has been referred to as the Palm Springs of Florida. I remembered being here with Mags - can it really have been 34 years ago? - and we loved it then too. It really has to be one of the most attractive cities in Florida. Had a lovely walk along the old pier and saw a young fisherman catch a hammerhead shark, to the great excitement of onlookers, which he released back into the ocean.

Next day we headed north up the Gulf Coast and arrived at our next destination - Clearwater Beach. Another beautiful place. Today was hot and sunny and so we headed to the lovely white sandy beach. Although it was busy, there was plenty of space for everyone. I have to say though, with all the tanned, svelte bodies around, we looked a bit like Bette and Joan in the final beach scene of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Another lovely evening walk and another busy pier, this time lined with stalls selling arts and crafts.

Regrettably the sunshine didn’t last, as we left the Gulf Coast. We stopped for breakfast at a traditional American diner, complete with wisecracking waitress. The diner was located adjacent to a Dinner Theatre, a Lutheran Church and the County Courthouse. A middle aged couple in the booth next to us were having a heated discussion, presumably prior to their divorce hearing in the Court next door. ‘The bed may be yours, but I goddam paid for that sofa and you ain’t having that!’ declared the lady, as they exited the diner into their separate cars.

Next stop was an overnight at America’s oldest city - St Augustine. Although very touristy, it was an attractive town to walk around in, and the main historic area was pedestrianised and easy to get about. We particularly liked the beautiful former Ponce de Leon Hotel, now Flagler College, built by industrialist Henry Flagler, a key figure in the development of the Atlantic Coast of Florida.

Looking forward to catching up with Sadie and family tomorrow!

Floride et route vers le nord

      December 12, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

      Clearwater

      March 12 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

Mary finally arrived in Tampa after a 3 hour delay. It is so nice to see her. I am looking forwarding to my new co-pilot helping me navigate our trip back home. Feeling sadness and joy at the same time.

It was so great to see my neighbor and old high school friend Kerry. Her house is so cozy and unique. Seriously, who couldn’t love a girl with a martini glass and orchid collection? We have so much innocent fun-loving history. We FaceTimed our friend Jeannie and gabbed for an hour, It’s conversations like this where you find out an old boyfriend named one of their children after you! 😉😉. I always laugh when I talk to Jeannie. Even after all these years we all still get each other 🙃. Laughing is good!

We had a little hold up so The Magic Chassis could take a shower. Volume up if you want the thunder and lightening effect.

Thanks to Ashely for the selfie lessons and the great shots. Ashley was a random stranger that asked if we needed help. We did need help!

Once the storm passed we went to lunch. Cheers to my very best and dearest buddies!

      Zwischenstopp in Clearwater

      December 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 24 °C
