  • Day336

    December 2-9

    December 9, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

We've had a couple days of much needed rain which brought snow to the San Jacinto and San Bernardino Mountains = beautiful views. Last Sunday we went to the Indio Tamale Festival with Chad and Leslie. I only wish we had the gastric capacity to sample more than 4 tamales out of the hundreds that were there. https://www.tamalefestival.net/
Thursday we met cousin Steve at the Palm Desert Community Center for pickleball then had lunch with him and Carlene at Islands Restaurant. It was great seeing them and we're glad he's finally discovered the sport we love.
Friday Chad and Leslie hosted an open house at their beautiful new (to them) motorcoach.
Today had breakfast at Keedy's https://keedysfountaingrill.com/ and hit the College of the Desert Street Fair for some holiday shopping, listened to some talented musicians at Cat Spa's Sunday Jam and had friends over for an impromptu get together.
Another fun and busy week and I didn't even mention wine tasting and trivia night, well...I guess I just did.

    January 2-9

    January 9 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

The weather has been beautiful this week, sunny with temperatures in the mid 60's to low 70's. 😎
Saturday morning was spent browsing the College of the Desert Street Fair where we purchased a back massager, a dress and of course dates & licorice. Saturday evening we enjoyed Vocolacity's performance here at Cat Spa. Randy's phone gave up the ghost after 5 years of faithful service so he got a Note 10 on Sunday. Monday we took a leisurely bike ride. Tuesday Jim & Angie had us over for a delicious dinner of smoked stuffed pork chops and smoked mac n cheese.
Wednesday was happy hour at the Giltz's.🍹 Thursday we stopped by Peabody's for breakfast and a killer bloody mary then later headed to the pickleball courts for wine and pickle under the lights.

    December 1, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 55 °F

We hit the road for our migration to warmer weather at 6:45am Friday, taking advantage of the 24 hour window of opportunity to cross over the Siskiyous and Shasta before the next snowfall. Our first night was spent at Rolling Hills Casino RV Park then south through olive and citrus orchards to The Orange Grove RV Park in Bakersfield, California.

We battled high winds coming over Tahachapi Pass and a bit of traffic over Cajon Pass and through San Bernardino but all in all a good final leg into Desert Hot Springs. We ended our day with a delicious dinner at Felipe's with Jim & Angie and Joy, Jim & Jessie. It's good to be back at Cat Spa where we'll be through January. https://www.catalinasparvresort.com/

    November 25-December 1

    December 1, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

We spent Sunday night at "Camp Monaco" in Coburg, OR for some minor fixes to the motorhome the following day. Wanting to take advantage of the calm dry weather we began our southerly migration at 4:00 Monday afternoon. Stopped for a three hour cat nap south of Stockton before arriving Tuesday afternoon at our winter destination in Desert Hot Springs, CA at Catalina Spa and RV Resort...a long but uneventful drive.

Chad and Leslie were having a barbecue so we enjoyed dinner, a gorgeous sunset and connecting with friends old and new. Jim, Joy and Jess, who we met in Seaside, OR, are here. 😎🏜️
No lack of activities here at Cat Spa, wine tasting Wednesday, Dillon's for bingo on Thursday getting our daily exercise on the pickleball courts. Competed in a Round Robin tournament on Saturday where we didn't medal but enjoyed some good competition and had lots of fun, despite the wind. Thanks Jim and Angie for organizing the event. Saturday night I attended a wine and cheese tasting hosted by Mike Thompson RV.

    December 17-20

    December 20, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Monday we joined a group from Cat Spa for some pickleball at the Sands RV and Golf Resort. Thanks to the "picklers" at the Sands for their hospitality. Tuesday we enjoyed the annual Christmas Cart Parade/Festival of Lights. Our friends Leslie, Chad, Jim & Angie had their bikes fully decorated. Wednesday I hiked the Magnesia Falls Canyon trail with Marc, Pattie and Karen. A bit more difficult than last year as some of the rock faces were a bit slick, but well worth the effort. This evening we had pizza at Bill's...delicious!
Tomorrow we head back to Oregon for the holidays.

    January 1-8

    January 8, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

We departed Milwaukie, Oregon on New Year's day and arrived at our winter home at Cat Spa on the 2nd. Finally toured the Visitors Center at Pyramid Lake, very interesting and worth the stop.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vista_del_Lago_Visitors_Center
We've been spending some quality time with our friends Phil and Dee who we met over four years ago while volunteering at Nehalem Bay State Park.
Tonight we had a great time sipping, snacking and playing pickleball while admiring a beautiful sunset. Sometimes it feels like we never left our neighborhood in Gresham...Chad, Leslie, Mike and Paula all lived within a block of us and are also our neighbors here at Cat Spa.

Friday we helped put up new wind screens at the pickleball courts then dined at Filipe's where we enjoyed excellent margeritas and mexican fare. Saturday we attended William Florian's tribute to John Denver. William has a great voice and is an excellent entertainer. http://florianmusic.com/index.htm
Today we had a ladies lunch at Panera. It was nice to get together in a testosterone free zone. 😉 Many thanks to Heather for organizing the lunch and for her thoughtful gifts.

  • Day24

    January 16-24

    January 24, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

Last Thursday we met Kathy, Jim, Betsy and Gene in Indio for lunch at TKB, one of our favorite sandwich shops in the area. https://www.tkbbakery.com/
Sunday, Randy was invited to play with the "big kids" on the pickleball courts and held his own. Late Sunday night through Tuesday was very windy with gusts up to 60 mph💨 No outside activities but we did see M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, Glass. Really enjoyed it, especially since we watched the first two movies of the trilogy, Unbreakable and Split, the night before.
As usual Leslie hosted our Wednesday wine tasting where we met new folks, visited, noshed, played Name that Movie and of course...tasted plenty of wine. Many thanks Leslie, you do a fantastic job.
Today we cheered on our friends: Ben, Barb, Larry, Chad, Leslie and Mike at the Cat Spa Water Volleyball Tournament. This afternoon we took Kuma for a thorough washing at the Barking Lot then home to be clipped.
