      Mount San Jacinto

      Kalifornien ist schon ein kleines Wunderland:
      Im einen Moment bist du in der Wüste, im nächsten stehst du schon oben auf dem Berg, zwischen schneebedeckten Pinien, und siehst das Hitzeflimmern unten im Tal.
      Wenn die Sonne untergeht, beobachtest du die Schatten der Täler, die sich immer länger ziehen. Während die umliegende Landschaft in Töne von Lila und Pink getaucht wird.

      Wir haben viele faszinierende Orte besucht in den vergangenen Monaten. Diese Vielfalt von Vegetationszonen auf so kleinem Raum war aber etwas sehr einzigartiges. Die Gegend von Mount San Jacinto haben wir zweimal besucht:

      Einmal haben wir zusammen mit Liam die Seilbahn von Palm Springs genommen und sind dann oben am Berg geblieben für ein kleines Picknick in der Sonne und um den Schnee zu genießen. Und auf dem Weg zurück nach L.A. sind wir dann auch noch nach Idyllwild abgebogen, von wo wir eine kleine Wanderung unternommen haben.

      Unser Ausflug nach Kalifornien war zwar nur sehr kurz, aber in dieser Zeit haben wir so viel Schönes gemacht und gesehen. Und auch die oftmals als Oberflächlichkeit gescholtene Freundlichkeit der Menschen hat uns schon sehr angesprochen.       Day 5

      Palm Springs aerial tramway

      We had a quick dip in the pool when we got up at around 7:30 before showering and then going a couple of minutes along the road to a place where we could use a voucher for some breakfast. The weather was glorious with crystal clear blue skies and even that early on the temperature was in the early 20s.

      So orange juice, coffee and eggs with hash browns later and we are back at the room to get ready before going to the Palm Springs aerial tramway in time for 10:00 a.m.. tramway itself was about 10 minute drive. Most of it uphill and we arrived just before our scheduled departure at 10:00 a.m.. the cabins were different to when we last road on them in 1988. As in the year 2000 they replaced the cabins with two large cabins which revolve as you go up and down.

      The tramway takes you from around 2,400 ft to 8,400 ft in about 10 minutes. We were on the first cabinet of the day and the views as we went up and revolved were amazing. Not that mum saw any of them but she spent time holding on to the edge of the cabin which was revolving and trying not to fall over. 😉

      Being so high there was snow at the top. Although in the warm spring sunshine it was still very pleasant. He walked down a sloping path to the start of some forest trails but neither of us was really very well equipped with our footwear even to do the shortest one because it was muddy and a bit icy. So instead we walked back at the slope and into the lift station area where there were some exhibits, compulsory gift shop and a restaurant. It was now 11:00 a.m. and so the restaurant was open and we sat overlooking the Palm Springs valley and had some soup. I also had a chicken roll with some fries. Last mum had a Caesar salad with prawns.

      Bunny it's time to head back down the tramway and again we were treated to some amazing views and thankfully mum found the return journey much less nerve-wracking.

      Palm Springs Mt San Jacinto

      Mardi, 19 décembre 2017
      Le Aerial Tramway (un téléphérique,swissmade) avec un sol tournant, comme au Kuklos, nous amène en peu temps de 805m à 2595m à flanc de montagne, vraiment impressionnant. Après une courte descente à pied, nous sommes au départ des chemins de randonnée dans le Mount San Jacinto State Park. Le Desert View Trail nous paraît le plus adapté, env. 1,7miles. Nous y rencontrons les cinq espèces d'arbres qui poussent à cette hauteur, par ex. le Jeffrey Pine, dont l'écorce sent la vanille. On peut approcher la falaise à cinq endroits, quelle vue sur la vallée et les montagnes du désert! Un petit creux se fait sentir vers 15h, retour donc à la station de la télécabine, pour profiter d'un lunch au resto panoramique. Une fois de retour à Palm Springs, nous trouvons sans soucis, notre hôtel. Le Del Marcos Hotel, construit en 1947 par W. Cody, est un témoin de l'architecture des années 40/50. Le mobilier est vintage, mais les lits et la clim sont neufs.Read more

      San Jacinto Peak Arial Tramway

      Da wir schon einmal in Palm Springs sind, der Stadt der Golfer, wollen wir auch die Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, die größte rotierende Straßenbahn der Welt, benutzen. Sie fährt über zweieinhalb Meilen entlang der atemberaubenden Klippen des Chino Canyon und bringt uns in die Wildnis des Mt. San Jacinto State Park. Während der etwa zehnminütigen Fahrt drehen sich die Straßenbahnwagen langsam und bieten malerische und spektakuläre Ausblicke auf den darunter liegenden Talboden. In einer Höhe von 8.516 Fuß genießen wir die Aussichtsplattformen. Es gibt über 80 km Wanderwege. Der Aussichtspunkt an der 
      Bergstation ist sensationell.
      Auf den Gipfel des Mt. San Jacinto wollen wir heute.
      Das war unser heutiges Highlight, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Oben auf dem Gipfel lag dick der Schnee, unten im Tal waren es um 8:00 Uhr schon 20 Grad🤔🤭      Read more
