Today we will have a full day drive over the US border into the state of Montana and arrive at the eastern side of Glacier National Park, stopping en route at the fascinating “Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump“ (Footprint), a cliff that aboriginal people used for hinting for almost 6000 years. On Day 3 we will have free time to fully explore the pristine ecosystem of Glacier National Park and take some optional treks or scenic drives up the „Going-to-the-Sun Road“ (Footprint) to Logan Pass and other scenic points. In Glacier National Park we will camp in a campsite near the spectacular “St. Mary's Lake“* Visit the “Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump“ (Canada) used for around 5,500 years by the indigenous peoples of the plains to kill buffalo by driving them off the 11m-high cliff (Included in Kitty). Explore the spectacular lakes and mountains of Glacier National Park in the state of Montana (Included in Kitty).

Wir sind früh gestartet and are “hitting the road again“.

    * Saint Mary Lake is the second-largest lake in Glacier National Park, in the U.S. state of Montana. This article is about the lake in Montana. Located on the east side of the park, the „Going-to-the-Sun“ Road parallels the lake along its north shore.

    Koordinaten Glacier National Park: 48°45′18″ N 113°26′33″ W.

Follow the yellow dirt road @ St Mary

    September 14, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 50 °F

Carter seems to have a knack for finding unpaved sections of the road this trip. I think she just wants to come home with that "I've just been on a cross-country adventure!" patina...a combo of dust, bugs and mud. Here's a peek at our trek to St Mary, gateway to the East end of Going-To-The-Sun Road (which shall henceforth be known as GTTSR).

We were stopped at a one-lane construction stop for about 20 minutes to let traffic from the other side go thru, but the view made it no hardship.

We had fun checking out the sights on the way and getting a look at St Mary's version of the wildlife traffic jam (these aren't your Yellowstone bison!). And the views! OMG the views! And we weren't even to Glacier NP yet!

    St.Mary Campground

    August 21, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

This campground is a stark contrast from the west side of the park. Trees are much smaller, but at least we have trees because the sites at the KOA campground were bare. We are right next to the bathroom and everyone loves that. Our own private path there! This campground also offers showers. Another bonus for our hikers who have not quite arrived from their trek across the Going to the Sun road.Read more

    View never gets old...

    August 22, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We will miss these mountains and this view. What a park! (We won't miss the bear proof dumpster, should have cut that out of the picture!)

Met a guy from Ireland on his motorcycle. He has Netherlands plates on his bike, but lots of Irish stickers as well.Read more

    Ranger Talk

    August 21, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Went to a ranger talk tonight at the campground about the prehistoric animals that used to live in the park. This long stick has two orange flags on it. The first is at 12' and represents how tall the grizzly bear was standing up and the higher one is at 15' to show how far the bear could reach with his paws. Wow! 😳 Check out the bear's skull!!! 🐻Read more
