Rainbow this morning as we left Amarillo in the rain. Going west through Texas we saw fields of sorghum and thousands of wind turbines. We entered New Mexico and the landscape changed and we were seeing desert scrub and mesas. The last photo was taken from our campground and is the Sandia Mountains. We are here for a week. The weather is warm again.Read more

    Santa Fe

    October 4, 2019 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

It was cloudy and rainy today. We couldn't even see the mountains. So we decided to go to the Georgia O'Keefe museum in Santa Fe. We ducked into a Mexican restaurant for lunch just before a thunderstorm hit. We went to the visitor center and walked around town a bit. Headed back to our campground via the Turquoise Trail. That will be an adventure for another day.Read more

    The Turquoise Trail

    October 5, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Tom, Denise and I ventured north on the Turquoise Trail toward Santa Fe. We passed many ranches and stopped at the Henderson Store in Golden, NM. We continued on to the town of Madrid, a very small town full of fun quirky shops. We had a delicious lunch of smoked pork BBQ sandwiches and sweet potato fries. Then back to the Henderson Store for a few purchases. There are yellow flowers blooming everywhere. They are chamisa. The big tree in front of the store is a cottonwood.Read more

    Scouting the area

    October 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today we drove around scouting the area and talking to people to get suggestions of where to go and what to see. We drove the musical highway and made a video that I will try to text to you. As you drive along a rumble strip your tires sing America the Beautiful! We also went to Wild Life West zoo. All the animals are native rescues. The park was built by local youth. It was really nice. The animals in the sign were stained glass. There were several of these throughout the park. Tom took animal photos with his good camera and I did plants, juniper, cholla, prickly pear, sage, and mallow.Read more

    Sandia Crest

    October 6, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Today we drove up through the Cibola National Forest to the top of the Sandia Crest. As we got higher up the mountain we saw pinon pine and aspen. We saw a chipmunk and 2 mule deer. Two spectacular views from the top. Both facing west, the first one shows Albuquerque. Altitude 10,678 feet
Heading back down we stopped at Tinkertown Museum. Ross Ward's life's work of hand carved animated miniature scenes. He had a circus, an entire wild west town and much, much more. One last stop at a flea market, craft shop type of place in Edgewood. We have had fabulous weather for two days. 50's at night and 70's during the day.

Today we visited the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. It displayed art and information about the 19 different pueblo's in New Mexico. The photos are of the Zia Pueblo demonstrating different dances and songs, describing their costumes and culture. Another beautiful day! As we were driving west Tom kept noticing trucks for Blake's Lotta Burger so we found one of those for lunch. This chain was established in 1952. We had Lotta Burgers with cheese and chilis. They were quite tasty!Read more
