    Las Vegas

September 15 in the United States

    Monday - The Flamingo

October 22 in the United States

Slept ok but woke to construction noise, this really is a bad room. So got ready and hit the front desk with my pleasantest attitude, and it worked. She changed me immediately to a high floor brand new room, and it is fabulous. So now all happy, headed off for coffee and breakfast. The sun is shining and it is a beeeauutiful day!

After some googling I found where to find some Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque for Gypsy, joint birthday and big thank you for everything. Had to catch a bus there, and happened to pass the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, so after my purchase i walked the few kms back to take a pic of that. Right near the airport, and as I was walking, the planes were landing about 10 metres (about....) above my head! Crazy. Anyway, I saw the sign, tick.

Long walk back, and it was about 2pm by now, so went and had Gordon Ramsey fish and chips for lunch. Delish. Then hit the pool for a few hours which is where I am now. Great day.

Meeting Jeanette and Gypsy for dinner at 7.30, then we are off to a 10pm show, Absinthe which is at Ceaser’s Palace. I met some of the stars of that show at Gypsy’s party, so should be fun.

Sunday - on the road again

October 21 in the United States

Great sleep, didn’t hear the thunderstorms at all! Very wet ground in the morning but no sign of more rain. Beautiful day. Early start for our day trip to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. David and Marlis picked us up at 9, we stopped for coffee and breakfast then we were off.

Hoover dam was so speccie, I am so glad I decided to go. I was thinking of leaving them to it after spending so much time together for the last few days, but I thought I may regret it. And I would have.

Suitably impressed we then headed for the Grand Canyon. What a sight that is!! Gypsy and I talked Jeanette into going in a helicopter and land down low in the canyon. After the initial screams she was (sort of) fine. The photos don’t do it any sort of justice, it was breathtaking.

Then the trip back, home by 7pm, and I uberred straight to the Flamingo to check in for my last 2 nights. My room here is not what I ordered, it is horrible, so I will see what I can do tomorrow.

I went to the 9.30 Cirque du Soleil Zumanity show at New York New York. It was pretty stunning but not as good as the one the other night. But nice to be in a position to compare Cirque shows! Before I went in I bought a cocktail (bucket size) to last the show. By half way through I could feel my insides burning. I don’t know how everyone drinks these day and night. But it was nice to have a bucket size drink to carry on my walk home, just like everyone else, I fitted in.

Home by midnight and straight to sleep.

A walk on the strip in the morning

April 13 in the United States

After going to bed sometime after 4, we still woke up a bit before 8, and as it felt like we were not very likely to fall back asleep, we decided to go for a walk on the strip in the daylight too. It actually stretches along for multiple miles, so we didn't even make it all the way to the end, and still walked quite a lot. The casinos look quite cool in the morning too (although they are best at night of course). Most of them have an elaborate theme going on, so the Paris casino has a replica of the Eiffel tower, that is 1/3 of the original size, and is full of fancy French restaurants. The venetian has canals around it where you can ride gondolas in, and also has a replica of the bell tower of St. Mark's Basilica. The Flamingo casino had a nice garden inside, with all kind of birds living in it, including (you guessed it) a flock of flamingos. In front of one casino they had live music, dancers, and daytime fireworks. We went inside a shopping mall, where the ceiling of the mall is made to look like it is daylight all day, and there's a part where they have a rainstorm, with lightning and actual rain falling every half an hour. Which sounds really cool (at least it sounded awesome to me when a colleague of mine told me about it back in Scotland), but it was a bit underwhelming to be honest. For breakfast we tried panda express, and had a Starbucks coffee (there's literally a Starbucks on every corner, and yet there's still a big line in most of them. It's like they don't know any other coffee exists).Read more

    Magaritaville & Hard Rock Cafe

September 26, 2015 in the United States
