Since the dining car disappeared with the other half of our train, we got our choice of the breakfast offerings in the Snack Car. It wasn't as yummy (or as nicely presented) as the dining car experience, but it was filling.

I am going to miss lunch today, as we change trains in Portland, but seriously, I could stand to miss a few meals on this trip.Read more

Before we entered the Dalles Loch the river was surrounded by lush trees and hills. Came out the other side of the loch to John Wayne country. Desert plains and rock plateaus. It was almost like we entered a portal! Richland is part of a tri-city area along with Kennewick and Pasco. Definitely a larger metro area than I expected.

Our first trailer repair requires us to stop in the Pasco, WA service center to replace a front jack.

When we arrived, we were informed that they are too busy to help us. They gave us two options. 1. Wait six weeks for a service technician; or 2. Replace the jack ourselves.

We considered staying six weeks in Pasco, WA and took option 2.Read more

Pasco was our last "fresh air break" before Portland, which means it's our last chance to get off the train and walk around. I kind of forgot that until we had been in the station a while, so I only had time for a quick picture taking sprint around the platform.

Russell and I went to Pasco many years ago by car, not by train. There is a winery near there that we really liked back then. They have lost some of their allure now, so I can't see us coming back by train, but if we did, we could bring more wine back than we could on the plane, that's for sure

We are still running about 2.5 hours late, but our connection time was 3 hours in Portland, so I don't expect there to be any issues catching our next train.Read more

Reached our destination, Columbia Sun RV Resort in Kennewick, on Sunday. We had perfect weather for our journey and Debbie even managed to drive for an hour. We were treated to burgers upon our arrival and a wine tasting later that evening.
Monday we rode our bikes on the Sacajawea Heritage Trail along the Columbia River. Tuesday was spent visiting The Reach Museum. Fascinating history of Hanford and the Manhattan Project as well as the geology and history of the Tri Cities.
