After breakfast with our hostess, we traveled on. Not many miles today, but we had a leisurely trip through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee. It is the most often visited US park, with more than 10 million visitors annually! We settled in Pigeon Forge for a couple of nights. It was refreshingly cool in the mountains but back to heat and humidity down lower. Had a refreshing swim with a bit of water basketball followed by dinner at Paula Dean's restaurant. Yum! For flat rate of $22/person, each table chooses 4 from a list of sides, 3 from list of entrees and each gets a dessert. Ribs, fried chicken, cheesy meatloaf, Mac and cheese, sweet yam casserole, creamy potatoes, Cole slaw, banana pudding and buttery cake with chocolate chips! Oh my!Read more

More Great Smoky Mountain National Pk

We had a 3-hour bike/hike trip along the 11-mile Cade Cove, stopping to see some homes, farms and churchaes which represent structures from the early 19th century. It was interesting to learn that several of the churches stopped meeting during the Civil War because there were pockets of Union supporters even this deep into the South.
