    Back in Anchorage

    September 28, 2019 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 2 °C

We made it back to Anchorage! And we went to the brewery, again. Lovely people who let us bake our bread (we made a pumpkin-bread in the campfire and unfortunately it didn’t bake through). And then we met nice people, ate a pizza and had a lovely evening. The next day (which is today) our plan is to had to the Canadian border. We’ll see how far we’ll come!😉
Zurück in Anchorage!

Is it the brewery or do you just have no time to blog on?

Hope you're fine, love & hugs from Berlin, Papa/Peter.

    Welcome to Alaska

    September 20, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Der andere: "Hm, I wanna order a Taxi. Hm, do you wanna party?"
    Ich: "No"
Der andere: "Do you wanna have a smoke?"
    Ich: "No"
Der andere: "Do you wanna go out?"
    Ich: "No"
Der andere: "Ok, I leave you alone"
Zehn Sekunden später klingelt das Telefon. Ich geh dran. "Hey who's there? I wanna order a taxi". Der gleiche Typ wieder. Die gleiche Diskussion, das gleiche Ergebnis.
Seitdem ist das Telefon aber still. Hat wohl doch noch ein Taxi bekommen...

    First Campground

    May 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

After spending the night at the RV location it was time to move on. We had our walk-around the rig with the Clippership rep, Crystal. We noticed two things that we wanted fixed before we headed out and that required them to take the rig back in the maintenance area. While they were doing that, they shuttled us to Walmart so that we could get our groceries and a few other things. Once all that was taken care of we headed to our first campground - Creekwood Inn & RV Park. It seems that many motels/inns also have an RV Park. There are only a few campers here. Two couples were from Florida and were here as camp-workers. For a free camp site they are workers for the campground - doing minor maintenance and trash detail. They are here until September. We spent today organizing things, setting up the go pro camera and programming the gps. Anchorage is a bigger city than expected. We woke up to temperature in the high 30's and today's high was 53 with overcast skies. It started to rain around 3. The first 3 photos are our view from our campsite. The last picture was taken at 9:30 pm and still looks light out! Sunset is scheduled for 10:45pm with tomorrow's sunrise at 5:07 am - only 6 hours of darkness. Heading to Seward -- stay tuned!Read more

    Play Ball!

    June 11, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

We left Talkeetna and headed south on Alaska route 1 towards Anchorage. Before we got to our campground we stopped in Chugiak, Alaska for a baseball game. The teams were the Chugiak Chanooks and the Mat-Su Miners - teams from the Alaska Baseball League. It was the home opener for the Chugiak Chanooks.

The name "Chugiak" comes from a Dena'ina word meaning "place of many places". Chugiak was first heavily settled in the 1950s, primarily by the homesteading by former military personnel who had served in Alaska during World War II. Mat-Su is shortened for Matanuska-Susitna Valley. The Mat-Su Valley was originally inhabited by Athabaskan people and was explored by Russians in 1818.

A lot of people came out for the home-opener. They even have their own cheering group - 'the horn section' (see photo 5). The game was won by the Chanooks 7 - 1.
