      Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

      October 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

      January 29, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

      Homosassa State Park

      February 7, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

      Homosassas Springs Wildlife State Park

      April 17, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

      Partielle Sonnenfinsternis

      October 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Homosassa Property Clearing TUE Day #5

      March 2, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

Nice cool morning after three really hot, mid 80's days. We decided to go do some brushing at the property so we packed a lunch and took off at 11:00 a.m. Saw the neighbor across the street and I sent Mel over to talk to him (Tim) for a long time! While he was doing that I cleared a path through the palms. We started brushing and talking about where to pull in and park the trailer and decide we needed to cut down at least 2 trees with 6" diameter.
Mel just got the stump cut out when our next door neighbor (north) Mac stopped to say Hi. Nice guy! We continued brushing (goddamn vines). I asked Mel for one of his Norco. Took it then ate a half sandwich. Then Mac walked over and we talked more when I started to feel sick to my stomach. Damned Norco 10's. Almost puked and had Mel pour water on me. Damn temp went up to 85° too! W continued to talk with Mac for quite a bit and then he said we could use his outdoor faucet so Mel walked over with him to see where it was. By the time he got back I was feeling better.
We had agreed to only work till 3 but Mel wanted to take down the one last tree close to the road that we needed gone for the driveway! Fucking tree just wouldn't fall over toward the property. Tried the wedges, nope, tried pushing with a stick, nope. He had to cut it all the way through and it ended up coming down vertically then fell out towards the road! Oops! Next thing ya know our property neighbor, Mike from down around the corner stopped to meet and talk. Another Trump loving nice guy who told us to be careful of the dogs cuz of the alligators and coyotes. 😳😳
Mel had to change the saw chain then we hurried (HaHa) and cut it up. We were both soooo done in!
Back to camp and rested while watching the 5 then we both took showers which felt so good. I'm ending tonight at 10:30 p.m. after summarizing the past 4 days of this diary.
Today was a great day! We've settled so many things about what our plan is for the property!
      YAY!
We decided since we will be staying at the property and won't be posting the Land Impact Fee we will need a 3000 way generator to run the trailer AC. Found a Generac 3500 watt with electric start for $999 less 10% Veteran's discount and ordered to be delivered to the store on March 13th.

Move to Morningside FRI Day 1

      March 12, 2021 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Took the dogs for a short walk and started putting things away while Mel relaxed. Finally got him going around 10 am then we started talking to the new neighbors which slowed him down. Ironically they are from Homosassa via upstate New York and live in our neighborhood!
Moved out at noon and headed to Tillis Hills State Park and dumped sewer.
We arrived at our property around 1 pm and after Mel started listening to my directions we got the trailer tucked into place. We thought we cleared enough but where the deck is going it's pretty rough so we finished setting up and decided to go to Home Depot to get decking materials and the fencing at around 6 p.m. It to a while loadng the treated 2x4's and plywood onto carts by ourselves'then hold ups at checkout for the Rigid floor model sawzall... Then cashier didn't know how to look up the 6'x8' wood fencing we wanted. Just because there was absolutely no offer of help, even outside to load the truck, we took an additional piece of fencing!
Stopped and got ice cream along the way and Mel remembered he was suppose to get a special plug adapter to plug the trailer in. No AC tonight and have to let the generator run for his C-pap machine and the large fan.
We're very pleased with the Generac generator!
Bushed again tonight. Taking tomorrow off and then going out for dinner and a beer!

      Morningside TUE

      March 16, 2021 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 68 °F

Up early and off to the dog park and did two laps then to Walmart for a few groceries. Forgot the garbage! Mel went to TSC and picked up the wire fencing material and the fitting to extend our outdoor shower hose while I wacked away at the jungle. It was hot so lots of breaks and the sprayer I bought is great for a cool off.
Jerry and Pat got here at 2:30 and we sat and chatted for an hour or so then
We went to their motel room at 4 and took a shower Ahhhhhh then walked to the freezer for dinner. Crab, shrimp, mussels and chowder Yum Yum!
We strolled around the docks at the resort, saw two manatees swimming and then had a cup of ice cream and watched the sun go down.

In search of the wild manatee [Ocala]

      January 25, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Drove up to Crystal Springs, Fla. in search of manatees. The ranger station, empty like the park, had a flyer telling us to go to Homosassa Springs State Park if one wanted to see manatees. We drove back south and discovered we were in a wild life /rehab park! Not what we had in mind, but fascinating nevertheless. There were 4 resident manatees and 3 being fattened up after a cold snap paralyzed them, but soon to be released. Gentle giants. But also saw bright coral pink flamingos, a pair of endangered whooping cranes, a green heron, golden eagles, and spoonbills. Plus a red wolf and a Fla. panther (poor imprisoned things).

Tons of vultures in this state despite dwindling numbers world wide. Apparently their stomach acid can neutralize anthrax, cholora, and rabies in dead kill. Amazing, go vultures!

Camped at spring-fed Rainbow Springs State Park with a lovely bike ride thru palm live oak forest. Neato!
