    Honolulu Museum of Art

    May 11, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

I regret not giving myself more time here (I was up late and it closes at 4:30pm). The museum/art gallery seems beautifully curated so it's a joy to go around.

Because I only had a little time I concentrated on all things Hawaiian or Polynesian. Then I had a bit of spare time after tea and cookies (obviously), and discovered they had some Georgia O’Keefe Hawaiian works so rushed to see them. They also have an amazing collection of Monet's waterlilies, works by Gauguin, Lichtenstein, Picasso, Degas ... But I really enjoyed the O'Keefe's because I'd seen some of her work at MOMA in Brisbane, and it felt like there was a thread connecting now to then, running through this whole adventure 😎Read more

New York - LA - Hawaii

    January 27, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Well today we say goodbye to New York! We visited Times Square one last time to get some breakfast close bye and a little shopping before we headed back to our room to gather our our bags that are bursting by the seams to head to the airport!
New York was definitely a highlight and we loved a lot about it but we are very excited for some warmer weather. When we finally arrived in Hawaii our transfer didn't show up! So at 1 in the morning after waiting for ages we decided to uber it to our hotel ready to hit the sack! Our uber driver was a unit, but he made the trip go pretty quick with all his storeys thanks for picking us up Albert!
We were so happy to make it to Hawaii and to pull out some shorts and thongs 👍🏼

P.s there was a bloody dog on our flight from NY to LA his name was Zeus and god he was cute and very well behaved ❤️

    Honolulu Downtown

    August 16, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Read more

Honolulu auf der Insel Oahu, Hawaii

    May 16, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Mal schauen ob das was gibt...

    Honolulu, Hawaii

    January 31, 2014 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

24C when we arrived and the sun was shining. We decided to take the open topped red city tour bus, costing US$25 each but is an excellent way of seeing all the highlights in one go. We hopped off the bus at Waikiki Beach and strolled along the long promenade, passing the statue of Duke Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian Olympic surfing champion. The water was 26C and the beach was busy. We caught the bus again, passing the statue of King Kamehameha, the founder of modern Hawaii, the Iolani Palace, Chinatown and the Aloha Tower.Read more

    IUCN Congress

    September 3, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

Lovely first day of the congress. Lots of great speakers and workshops, as well as some stunning art work in the convention centre. I only got to see Jane Goodall and Obama in photos! Was hoping to see them for real. There were rumours that Obama would open the Congress, but he chose to go to Papahanamokuea Marine Reserve instead. My colleague from the US Fisheries and Wildlife Service said he was amazing- low key, wearing board shorts and joking with everyone, but determined to out-swim everyone, nevertheless.Read more

    Story time, Kava time

    September 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I was asked to cofacilitate a discussion in a knowledge cafe where we sat on a mat and drank Kava while sharing stories of "ocean as heritage". Very interesting experience, as I'd never had Kava before. It's not at all like alcohol, and is really not very tasty, but certainly calming!

Last day on Oahu-for a week or so!

    September 8, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Had a fabulous last day in Oahu, travelling up the east coast of the island with Congress colleagues to learn more about the island and its people. The first stop was Shark Cove, where we met Jenny from Malama Pupukea-Waimea, an NGO that raises awareness and actively manages the area.

    Honolulu - Day 5

    April 13, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

Today we visited 'Iolani Palace, which was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The architecture of this building is absolutely incredible and the furniture and workmanship within, was breathtaking!

We crosed the road and also took in Aliiolani Hale (home to the Hawaii State Supreme Court) where both the old and new series of Hawaii Five-O are filmed. Unfortunately, the crew weren't filming 😣 but we did take the opportunity to do a tour of the old court house and learn about the history of law & order in Hawaii - absolutely fascinating!

After another big day of walking and taking in the sights, we stopped off at the shopping centre (Ala Moana) on the way back to the hotel and had a really yummy cheeseburger meal at Jack in the Box...YUM!
