    Waking up in Paradise

December 5, 2016 in the United States

If the rain didn't wake us the thunder would have. We're in a break right now ... maybe it's stopped. We rolled up our pants and waded to the showers. The inch-thick mat Gordon put down so we didn't have to step in a puddle to get to the car is now covered by a 1/2-inch of water.

Ever industrious, Gordon decided this was the perfect time to squeegee off the trailer as it hasn't been cleaned since we left. I stuck my head out to survey the campground and declared gleefully, "we're camping in a water park!" Gordon (equally gleefully) shot back, "We're camping in a car wash!"Read more

    Beach walk

December 7, 2016 in the United States

We finally got around to walking across the street to the beach access. We had a grand old time watching the waves, the birds, the birds in the waves, and looking for shells we thought might be nice additions to our chili-pepper wreath.

    The enhanced Christmas chili wreath

    and a new decoration.

While at Home Depot today,Heather spied a small Xmas projector. It is perfect for our small trailer. That is Santa on our ceiling, along with the wreath on the table and the cowgirl boot stocking on the wall.

    Exploring the campground

December 6, 2016 in the United States

It's not JUST a campground. It's an RV RESORT! We decided to explore on our way to get ice.

We enjoyed the 30 foot hot tub last night when it was raining cats and dogs, but couldn't really see much through the steam. Nice, huh? I especially liked the pirate climbing the rigging overhead.

Wish we could have enjoyed the pool, though lounging beside it still works. But I REALLY wanted to belly up to the tiki bar with the underwater seats. Gordon thinks we need to shimmy on down to Key West as they are SURE to have swimming pool bars.

Then there were the pirates. And the sharks. We might need to stay another day!

We are not ready to test that no hurricanes after November 30 idea. It's gotten quite exciting around here and the wind is actually whistling.

    More campsite shots

December 7, 2016 in the United States

We truly love this campground, and have been congratulating ourselves on getting the best spot in the park. Just a few miscellaneous shots that have no other home.

Day 8 - San Antonio to Galveston Island

June 18, 2016 in the United States

We rolled out of the awesome San Antonio KOA early and hit the road for Galveston Island via Houston. Travel was slow today and it was hot and muggy. Progress was slow. We finally got to Houston by mid afternoon but traffic was stupid, like bay area or LA traffic stupid, and compounded by the lunacy of tollways. Three $1.75 tolls in 20 miles; some numbnut expat from Illinois must have designed the road system here. Tolls on a motorcycle are the worst if you aren't from the area and can do the EZ pass thing. We finally made it through Houston and down to the gulf. Unfortunately, every one else in Texas is down here too. No campsite available and it's 5:30 PM. What to do? Time for a swim in the ocean. It was refreshing but strange. The water is brown, warm, and really salty. The beach is shallow for a long ways out. Gwen did great body surfing with me until I reached down to figure out what the hard things on the bottom were and three hermit crabs geronimo'ed off my hand. Gwen is not down with hermit crabs in her vicinity. Swim done, time to start calling hotels. Almost no vacancies and the available rooms are all over $300. We score a hotel room in Texas City just down the street from the refineries. All I can think of is Texas City disaster. Just as we get everything off the bike into the hotel room the torrential rain with thunder and lightning begins. Providence.Read more
