We added another 12 miles to our trip today and are currently sitting at 5,996 miles for our trip!! Another milestone in four. But we didn’t do those four today and won’t tomorrow either. The cold front has moved in and it’s pretty windy so we are at the Kingfisher Marina. This place has 5… maybe 6 washers and dryers! Second load is done ✅. We passed through a lock with a lovely waterfall from a dam and headed for a few hours by some pretty cliffs. The trip was along a windy part of the Tombigbee river where is was particularly shallow. We had one moment for a tow tried to run us all out of the Channel.

The anchorage was pretty but not the best location. A sandy beach was nearby to take flash. The weather is warming up as is the water. But that also means alligators could be lurking nearby.Read more

We had to drive back to the route this morning and it was so humid. The road looked like ribbon candy and the heat index was 95*. The real temperature was 93*. We started early but... we stopped 20 miles in and our trusty SAG/Brian (SUPPLIES AND GEAR) and a local let us know there wasn't another place to refuel for quite a ways. True. There wasn't another place to get a drink for 40 miles. So we got a gallon of water to fill up plus enough extra waters to put one in each of our jersey pockets. That is a significant amount of weight to carry but necessary. What would have been a 4 hour ride at home turned into a 8 hour ride in Alabama.

We we on HWY 69 most of of the ride. There were so many logging semis flying by. Whew!!! Kris and Marlene got chased by a few dogs but other than the heat it was uneventful. There were a few historical markers and a few historical churches but nothing that you could visit.

Brian found a small municipal golf course and got to hit a few balls in between catering to us.

We are greatfull for a nice room and dinner at The Red Barn. It was unique and delicious.Read more

We departed Columbus Mississippi on Tuesday October 29th. While in Columbus I reached out to a couple I had met in August 2022 while on a rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, Al and Anna Puckett. They took us out to a local Country Club for dinner and it was very nice.

On the Ten Tom river they have an interesting marker to define the Alabama/Mississippi state line, an old red phone booth.

The next day we were part of a 6 boat Looper group who traveled 70 miles to a nice anchorage spot. Thursday morning we left the anchorage to travel 50 miles to Demopolis. While traveling we saw a boat that we had met earlier in the week who said they would travel with us then did not. We were at a lock and they asked the lock to wait 25 minutes for them to show up. Another day … today we stocked up on groceries and liquor 🥃. Moki got a good run with another looper dog and Luna was a princess.

We stayed at Kingfisher marina in Demopolis. They had a courtesy car and shuttle service so we explored the town. There were a few historic buildings and statues for the confederates. The theater was showing Trolls 3 so we watched that.

Getting here, we passed through a lock and the white cliffs of Epes. These cliffs were formed at the same time as the white cliffs of Dover.Read more
