Happy Thanksgiving!
I was really confused when people said that to me today. I keep forgetting. In my mind Thanksgiving happened like 3 weeks ago. There's a decent amount of people here. More than I expected for a holiday. It's their on season though because it's way too hot to come during the summer. It was 90 today! That's too hot. No clouds and little shade. I got up early and beat the sun. Hiked 8 miles before it got too too warm. Then I did a few smaller hikes before heading back to camp. It's a really beautiful place. Mountains and cacti. They're so much bigger than I thought. They can grow up to 40'. I heard some really interesting birds. No idea what they are. Gotta bone up on my bird calls. But yeah now I'm back at my tent celebrating the holiday by heating up an Indian food packet. Pretty great day.

We hiked Brown Mountain today. 4.5 miles. It was considered moderately challenging! Worked our butts!! Great day after two days of rain. Sunny and no wind.

Arizona Sonoran Desert Muse

We got a fairly early start so that we could be at the Museum by 9:30. (Park was about one hour away.) We had hoped to catch that Raptor flight show that started at 10:00. We did but from a distance, no up close looks, too many people beat us there. But we still had a fairly good view of the birds as they were in the air. No tethers, just flying and soaring from perch to perch.
This park is huge and has a lot to see and walk through. It's a combination of a desert animal zoo and a desert botanical garden. We spent the day there, having lunch on site and attending a live reptile show as well. But mostly, we just walked and enjoyed all the various cacti and desert plants; so many of them were in bloom. Had to call it quits by about four because the RV park required us to be back inside the gate by 5:00. Sort of an unusual practice.Read more

Traveling To The Queen's Ranson.

Spent the night in Tuson after a very long day of traveling. The plan was to go to a campground and use the rooftop tent. Unfortunately, the campgrounds were all full, and the freezing temps forced me to sleep in my truck with occasionally running the heater.

The desert is a magical place, especially when covered in Saguaro Cactus. It is even more magical when covered in a rare white powder. This was the highlight of the driving portion of my trip to the Queen's Ransom.Read more
