Heute haben wir das "Polynesian Cultural Center" besucht. Hier kann man in verschiedenen Dörfern die Kultur der verschiedenen polynesischen Inseln, wie Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti, Neuseeland usw., kennenlernen. In den verschiedenen Dörfern wurden uns Shows angeboten, gezeigt wie man traditionelle Gerichte kocht, wie man Hula tanzt und noch viele andere tolle Dinge.
Abends haben wird dort an einem Luau Fest teilgenommen. Das ist ein typisches hawaiianisches Fest, kombiniert aus einem großes Festessen und einer Vorführung von traditionellen Tänzen und Musik. Es gab ein großes leckeres Buffet, dabei war das besondere ein Kalua Schwein, welches, in Bananenblättern eingewickelt, im Erdofen über 9 Stunden gebacken wird.
Danach waren wir dort noch in einer Musical-Show, in der es um die Zusammenführung der verschiedenen Traditionen ging. Richtig schön.Read more

Continuing the cultural education, a visit to the Polynesian Culture Centre... was great.
Can visit 6 of the 'islands' in Polynesia to find out about the cultures (Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Hawaii and Tonga) including traditional dancing, food and clothing. Finished the day off with the magnificent show 'HĀ: Breath of Life' show... was buzzing when it was time to leave...Read more

The PCC encompasses eight simulated tropical villages, in which performers demonstrate various arts and crafts from throughout Polynesia. Visitors may also take a free shuttle tour of the university and see the LDS Church's Laie Hawaii Temple and its associated visitors' center.

Seventy percent of the PCC's approximately 1,300 employees are students at BYU-Hawaii. Since it has opened, the PCC has provided financial assistance to more than 12,000 BYU-Hawaii students.[ Students may work up to 20 hours per week during school terms and 40 hours during breaks. As a non-profit organization, PCC's revenue are used for daily operations and to support education.Read more
