      NYC #8 Brooklyn Street Art 2

      We took dozens of photos of the work done by the Brooklyn Collective so without getting carried away here are a few more.
      As far as getting there, we rode trains you are advised not to and walked places you are advised not to but everyone was friendly.
      English is a second language here if you have a second language so most of the time we got a lot of smiles instead of words.
      We got off the train at a station called Knickerbocker Station and walked down a street called Starr Street to where the Brooklyn Collective has created their main work but looking from the train the moment you crossed into Brooklyn you could see a lot of brilliant works amongst most of what is dross that’s scrawled everywhere. Rooftops are a particular favourite, they have a large surface that’s easily seen by the elevated train lines, you know those rusted metal structures that have cars driving under them.       Back in NYC 🗽

      Nach über 6 Jahren bin ich endlich wieder zurück! Glücklicherweise hat mir wieder ein Host auf Couchsurfing in Forest Hill, Queens angeboten mich aufzunehmen. Luiggi hat mich auch direkt mit einem Bier erwartet und am Abend ging es auch direkt in die ersten Bars. Das sollte mich eigentlich schon davor warnen, was mich die nächsten Tage erwarten sollte. Luiggi arbeitet als recht hohes Tier im Finanzsektor und nahm mich und seinen ukrainischen Mitbewohner Yan quasi jeden Tag auf unterschiedliche New Yorker Parties mit. Am Samstag spielte sogar einer der berühmtesten DJs der Welt „Fred Again..“ in NYC das letzte Konzert des Sommers und als es Morgens regnete waren plötzlich wieder Tickets auf dem Markt. Luiggi bat mir dann sogar noch an, die Hälfte meines Tickets zu übernehmen. Das Konzert selbst war absolut atemberaubend und sorgte wirklich für einen unvergesslichen Aufenthalt in NYC!!       Long Beach, Jones Beach and Fire Island

      After an 8 hour drive from Tawna to Manhatten to pick up Clarence and then do grocery shopping, a few relaxing days at the beach sounded ideal. I booked a beach house Airbnb on Long Beach, Long island to wind down after all the running around. We would be close enough to the City if we wanted to use some more of our Go City passes. We still have 3 attractions to use. I bought the passes with 6 each and we have only done 3 so far in that first weekend. The Statue of liberty cruise only started running from 15th April so we should be good now.
      Long Beach is quiet suburbia with marshes on the north side and "long" beaches and boardwalks on the entire southern side of the Island. I guess there is nothing between these beaches and the UK now other than the Atlantic Ocean. Sea fishing is an option and whale and seal watching but Cade seems to be all touristed out and wants to spend a couple of days just chilling.
      It has been nice to go grocery shopping and be able to cook for these few days as we have a full kitchen.
      Wednesday we took a drive to Jones Beach which is the next island along and then on to Fire island which is the long thin stretch of sand that we saw on our flight in to JFK. I had seen this from the air and decided I wanted to explore it...
      Jones beach wasn't much to look at... just a road right through and big car parks along it called Field 1.2.3.4 etc It wasn't quite what I was expecting.. it is very remote and I thought there would be more commercial or leisure buildings for holidaymakers but there wasn't. I know we are out of season but even so it seems it is an island that you drive to, park and just spend the day at on an empty beach.
      Fire Island was beautiful.. it is a national state park and a very thin strip of just sand. Looking at the map it is populated all to the north/east. We drove as far as we could which wasn't far and parked up at the nearest car park to the lighthouse. Had a good walk on the beach which was stunning.
      After the lighthouse we checked out Google maps that told us we could drive to the cafes so we clicked on one and went.. we passed a sign saying "no vehicles past here without a Federal State Permit" we didn't know what that meant so we carried on going 🤔 🤣 we got to a barricade where a Ranger station wouldn't let us past.
      Very confusing as we couldn't work out how to drive to the nice looking part of Fire Island where all the marinas and cafe bars and restaurants were, so we turned back ☹️
      Having done research later that night,the Oceanside Sailors retreat it is called is only accessible by ferry. Once on the private complex you can only ride bikes or walk. Such a shame as I would have liked to have seen that part of the Island.. oh well, next time 😃

      Ce matin, dernière journée complète. On file sur Uptown, le nord de Manhattan, pour choper le Roosevelt Island Tramway, qui est en fait un téléphérique. Et de là, on attend un feu qui va nous faire monter toute la côte est de Manhattan jusqu'à Wall Street. Et cet aprem, c'est les quartiers communautaires: Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Italy.Read more

      Überraschung

      Nach einer eher unruhigen Nacht aufgrund des Jetlags haben wir heute Morgen Gisa, Daniel, Mama und Papa in New York überrascht. Die hatten sich schon leider zu einer völlig ausgebuchten Bustour angemeldet, sodass wir erstmal in den Central Park gegangen sind. Mit einem Kaffee aus dem Starbuckskaffee haben wir uns auf eine Bank gesetzt und die Leute im Park beobachtet. Wie man es aus dem Fernsehen kennt, haben wir sogar Hundesitter im Park beobachten können. Außerdem wurde im Park selber eine Art Film gedreht, die Schauspieler kannten wir allerdings leider nicht. Dem American Museum of Natural History haben wir auch noch einen Besuch abgestattet. Das Museum lockt mit seinen Dinosauriern und seinen Himmelskörpern. Im Anschluss waren wir dann zusammen in Little Italy, Chinatown und Coney Island und sind die Wall Street entlanggelaufen. Die Wall Street (dt. Wallstraße) ist eine Straße im New Yorker Stadtbezirk Manhattan, in der sich zahlreiche Kreditinstitute und die weltgrößte Wertpapierbörse, die New York Stock Exchange, befinden.
      Durch das Gewitter am Vorabend war es ein sehr schwüler und heißer Septembertag. Abgerundet wurde der klasse Tag von Harriets Rooftop Bar in Brooklyn Heights.

      Midtown

      Aujourd'hui première journée. Vu le temps pluvieux et nuageux nous reportons la visite de l empire state building à plus tard. Nous arrivons au Rock Feller center et nous descendons la 5 ème Avenue, puis direction time square et les célèbres enseignes lumineuses. C'est impressionnant, nous prenons le temps de profiter de l'ambiance!
      Petite pause Starbucks et on continue sur broadway avec tous les théâtres. On passe devant des lieux connus comme Cristler building (style art deco) Trump tower (😨) St Patrick Cathedral, Nike Store😀. On finit par aller au MET très beau musée d'art dont on aura une vue très partielle.
      Nous avons choisi de voir la partie des American Natives (art des indiens) et qques peintures plus contemporaines. Une belle journée !      Read more

      Central Park & Rockfeller

      Nous avons commencé la matinée par la visite du Musée d'histoire naturelle : très beau musée qui met en scène les animaux de façon superbe et bien sûr des squelettes des dinosaures ! Nous avons traversé Central Park d'Ouest en Est. Les New-yorkais aiment faire leur jogging ou du vélo dans ce parc. Ensuite direction Rockfeller Center pour quelques achats, puis montée du Top of the Rock qui donne une vue à 360° sur NY.
      Journée ensoleillée et les couleurs d'automne s'affichent tout comme les citrouilles qui commencent à orner les entrées des maisons!🎃🎃 et oui les américains préparent Halloween !
      Et Noël aussi, ils commencent déjà à décorer les bâtiments.      Read more

      New York, New York

      New York, New York ist ein berühmter Musiktitel von....richtig, Frank Sinatra. Unsere letzte Tour vor der Heimreise ist angebrochen und ging in die Weltmetrople New York City. Die Tour von Washington nach New York ist auf dem Highway bei bis zum 36° Hitze alles andere als angenehm. In der Stadt ist verkehrsmäßig der 😈 los. Das macht keinen Spaß, auch wenn die Kulisse im Dunst cool aussieht. Ein letztes Mal werden die GS vollgetankt. Sich bei dem Verkehr als Fremdling nicht zu verfahren ist nahezu unmöglich. Hab ich denn auch, aber man kann hier einfach auf andere Highway-Abschnitte wechseln, so dass die Richtung wieder stimmt! War bestimmt nicht erlaubt, aber egal, bevor man 10 km im Stop and Go Umweg fährt 😅Wir erreichen unser Hotel ohne große Umwege. Diesmal werden alle Sachen vom Motorrad runtergenommen, da wir sortieren müssen, was mit zurück fliegt und was im Container mit der BMW nach Hause geht. Meine Tasche, die auf dem Beifahrersitz festgeschnallt war, habe ich quasi 9 Wochen nicht geöffnet, leider. Die Sachen sind wohl mal nass geworden und haben tierisch gestunken und waren z.T verschimmelt. Ich habe daher diverse Sachen entsorgen dürfen.
      Unser Hotel ist in Queens, einem bekannten Stadtteil von New York City.
      "King of Queens" mit Doug Heffernan sagt vielen vielleicht noch was. Unser Teil von Queens ist jedoch geprägt von Chinesen und Asiaten. Klar, das es heute auch chinesische Küche gab. Danach noch ein paar Tsingtao!

      Sheepshead Bay

      Heute raus aus der City und runter zum Sheepshead Bay. Mit American Princess Cruises waren wir unterwegs zu den Buckelwalen. Und wir haben so viele gesehen! Die Fahrt ging über 3 Stunden und hat sich echt gelohnt.Read more
