      Rooftop Bar

      Nach unserer Auszeit im Hotel sind wir nochmal los Richtung Time Square. Als wir im Hotel waren hatte es geregnet nun war Waschküchenwetter, in der U-Bahn ging die Klimaanlage nicht und es waren zum Samstag Abend viele Menschen unterwegs. Dementsprechend kamen wir durchgeschwitzt am Time- Square an und... Überraschung ...viele viele Menschen hatten die gleiche Idee.
      Wir drängelten uns durch die Straßen und durch einen Zufall landeten wir in einer Spielehölle. Charlys und Ronnys Augen glänzten und wir probierten einige der Zockerautimaten aus.
      Unseren letzten Abend in der Stadt liessen wir in einer Rooftop Bar im 20. Stock über den Dächern von New York ausklingen.

      Day 2

      Madame Tussauds.. is it still only Day 2

      Ditched the bikes and got into Madame Tussauds without any queueing which I was surprised at as we just turned up and it was busy in Times Square. It was around 5pm by now though and still raining. Tussauds is tussauds and the same the world over but Cade had never been to one and seemed to be enjoying it. There was an 8 minute 4D Marvel movie inside which I think was broken, or at least my chair wasn't working. We were too close to the screen too and it wasn't great to be honest.
      When we left Tussauds it started to really rain so we jumped on electric bikes and sped off... it got heavier, we got soaked and it was freezing as we had only gone out in jumpers, no coats. We headed north, back through Time Square and on to the park. Its was bit more sheltered in he park and stopped raining about halfway up. We did the entire East Side of the park from south west corner to North East where we ditched the bikes and walked back to the Hotel. I went back out again the do laundry at Clarences. On the way home I left the clean, dry laundry on the Bus... much to Cades annoyance as it was all his clothes 😱😭 his favourite Fred Perry Jersey.. ugh. Wouldn't even know how to try and find it so I just accepted that it had gone.. he complained.. a LOT
      Might call lost property tomorrow if I can find a number or maybe possible to buy new ones and claim on insurance.. Whatever.. only clothes. An excuse to go shopping..

      14500 steps and about a 10 mile bike ride today.. some e-bike but not all. I can barely stand up.....      Read more

      Meet the stars

      Regentag! Wir passen uns dem Wetter an und verbringen einen entspannten Tag bei Madame Tussauds mit Michael Jackson, der Queen und E.T.
      Dann folgt natürlich noch ein bisschen Shopping, natürlich essen wir ganz amerikanisch einen Bagel zu Mittag und zur Belohnung für diesen ereignislosen Tag gibt es abends noch einen Margarita in unserer next door-Bar. Ich bestelle mir einen Spicy Margarita, der mir leider überhaupt nicht schmeckt und so bekomme ich Ersatz in Form eines Moscow Mules. Ich bin versucht mich weiter durch die Cocktailkarte zu probieren, indem ich mir diesen Cocktail wieder ersetzen lasse, bleibe dann aber doch vorerst bei dem Cocktail. Wir genießen ein paar Happy Hours hier und schlurfen dann rüber ins Hotel. Und damit endet mein wohl kürzester Reisetagebuch-Eintrag in der Geschichte der Menschheit.

      Kann man natürlich nicht so stehen lassen - also Nachveröffentlichung: Die Shopping-Action umfasst eigentlich lediglich Marijkes Vorhaben für André eine personalisierte Cappie anfertigen zu lassen. Erst dauert der Entscheidungsprozess relativ lange, dann fällt endlich die Entscheidung und wir verlassen erleichtert das Lids-Geschäft. Als wir zurückkehren, um das fertige Kunstwerk abzuholen (nachdem wir ein wenig im Urban Outfitters abgehangen haben), wird uns leider mitgeteilt, dass das ausgesuchte Motiv nicht möglich ist. Das beantwortet Marijke auf fließendem Englisch mit einem "öhm, nich?" und der Entscheidungsprozess für ein neues Motiv beginnt. Schließlich wird eine Kassette ausgesucht und es folgt die Farbanpassung. Ich frage, ob es auch "turquoise" gibt, spreche es vermutlich völlig falsch aus und die Verkäuferin versteht "turkey". Ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken sagt sie "klar" und sucht einen Truthahn. Wir lösen das nochmal auf, amüsieren uns im Nachhinein jedoch ziemlich darüber - "hm ne die Farbe gefällt mir nicht, dann hätte ich gerne einen Truthahn" - "klar, kein Problem" (als wäre es der natürliche Lauf der Dinge). Schließlich bleibt es (leider) doch bei der Kasette. Aber - Projekt Cappie erfolgreich abgeschlossen.      Read more

      Day 6–7

      Wir bleiben noch in New York

      April 3 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

      Wir sind jetzt auf dem Schiff. Zum Glück ein Taxi (Lyft) genommen, so was ähnliches wie Uber. Einschecken ging so schnell wie noch nie, das könnte aber daher kommen, dass in den Reiseunterlagen das Brooklyn Cruise Terminal stand, aber das Schiff liegt im Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Hatten zum Glück noch online nachgesehen, wo das Schiff liegt und sicherheitshalber noch Bakannte von der Weltreise gefragt, die schon länger auf dem Schiff waren.
      Der zweite Tag Dauerregen hier in New York, so dass die Lotsen auf dem Hudson River den Dienst eingestellt haben, und wir so morgen erst um 6.30 Uhr hier losfahren. Dadurch entfällt der Stop in Newport und wir fahren direkt nach Halifax.
      Durch die Seetage habe ich dann Zeit, New York aufzuarbeiten, da gibt es unheimlich viel zu berichten und zu sehen!      Read more

      Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

      New York Day #3

      Another exciting day in the Big Apple! (And another 20,000 steps walked).

      This morning I decided to go for a long walk, from the Times Square West area on 42nd street all the way Downtown to Ground Zero.

      It was quite a nice walk where I passed by a number of attractions, such as Macy’s, The Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building and several of the smaller parks, like Washington Square Park with the famous arch.

      Eventually I arrived at Ground Zero where the new Freedom Tower stands (One World Trade Center), the tallest building in the US. Now known as The World Trade Center site, this is of course the place where the twin towers once stood.

      On the same site, they have opened the National September 11 Museum which I visited for the first time. It was very interesting, and fascinating to see debris, and a number of things recovered from the site. There was a huge exhibit inside that told the story of what happened on 9/11, second by second. And all of the aftermath.

      Definitely a sobering and interesting experience.

      After visiting the museum, I stopped by “The Oculus”, or rather the Westfield shopping center that is the centerpiece of it.

      I then took the subway back uptown and found an Olive Garden restaurant where I had some lovely Italian food.

      After the food, I went to see New York’s version of the Tussaud’s wax museum. I’ve been before, but they do rotate the exhibits so it’s never the same. It was definitely fun to see that museum again 👍

      It has been raining pretty heavily in the city today so I went back to the hotel to spend a little time before heading back out again.

      I eventually boarded a bus headed for a concert in Englewood, New Jersey of all places where I went to see Toto live once again! Funnily I think it was also in the New York area I saw them last time.

      It’s been over 20 years since I first saw Toto live, but it’s still a great experience, and the setlist offers selections from a career spanning more than four decades. Great live show!

      After Toto, I went back to Manhattan and finished my day in the hotel.      Read more

      Am späteren Nachmittag/Abend lief uns das Madame Toussauds rein – wär ich nie reingegangen, wenn es nicht beim New York Pass dabei wäre – und es war wirklich lässig und lustig.

      THEATER BOWLING

      What happens when you have a bowling league where each theater competes against each other. Yes, each Broadway Show on Thursday nights (after the shows end and starting around 11pm) brings together their actors, front of house crew, and others to compete in bowling. Well, not really compete since everyone has a great time ... and these artists are not the "best" bowlers (they have other skills).
