    Yelm, wo ist das ?

    March 27 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

    Olympia Washington USA

    October 5, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Etappe.Read more

    Overnight Millersylvania State park.

    September 12, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

after the hold up at Tacoma we are on our way again, but now is dark and we want to find a camp spot. We tried to locate the Olympia Campground where we have stayed before, but no luck. It is dark and we must have gone past it after the turnoff.

I do have GPS directions for Millersylvania State park though so after heading back 3-4 miles to get back on the I-5 we start again. This time we find the park. It is dark so we find an available site and pay $30 american, no hook ups......Washington state parks are on the pricey side. after a instant noodle dinner and a walk around the campsite we realize there are hook ups also for $30, but into the middle not in the trees like we are.

We go for a walk next morning and it is lovely. Lots of marshland, birds and a small lake for boating and swimming. Far enough off the highway that you don't hear traffic, but the trains.....anywhere you camp you seem to hear the trains!!

    Millersylvania

    September 13, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 57 °F

This state park was made by the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps, by hand, in 1935. You can see all the old stone work and large timbers so typical of many Pacific North West USA state parks. It was a make work project during the depression by President Franklin Roosevelt, part o this new deal to put unmarried young men to work.

The park is in Old Growth Cedar and Doug Fir, on the shores of Deep Lake. Good fishing.

The park was originally called Millers Glade by the millers family who once owned the property, they changed the name to Millersylvania meaning 'wooded glade.' 842 acres was homesteaded by Squire Lathum in 1855 before being sold to John Miller. The Millers gave the property to the state in 1921 with the stipulation it be a park forever.

There is an old narrow gauge railroad, several Skid roads used in the late 1800's by the logging industry. Many stumps with the old Springboard Notch scars. (source for above was the pamphlet and map for the park)

There is an old 1920's cottage on the site that you can rent too. It has been refurbished.

    Olympia State Capitol

    July 25 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We wound down Mt. Rainier from Paradise to the visitors centre at Longmire for another stamp. But the mountain remained a feature of the entire day, being visible from our morning in Packwood right up to our sunset in Seattle.

Driving through national and state parks and forests, we headed for a brief detour to Olympia to visit the state Capitol building. The huge rotunda and marker directly underneath resonates of Congress in DC, and we spent some time visiting the two chambers of the government building, as well as the State Supreme Court opposite, before heading for our final destination of Seattle.Read more

    Feuer

    August 22, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Read more

    Where the heart is

    October 28, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

    Where the Heart Is

Many of you know the story already. Our house sold so quickly we don't have a place to move to. We're psyched!!

Forty years in the same place ... the same HOUSE!! We raised our wonderful son. We had about 5 careers between us. We started and ran a business for over 25 years. We helped Gordon's parents through their last years. We retired.

We decided we are ready for a change. NOW. While we are still able. No home? No problem. Because we know: home is where the heart is.

Movers are cleaning out the house on Thursday, November 3, at which point we take off in our beloved geezer-mobile. First, we head south for some sun and winter heat. And this time really, truly we're SURE we can SLOW THE HECK DOWN!!

We'll keep you posted. Thanks for visiting. We love it that we can take you along with us in this way.

    Departure Day

    April 19, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

How exciting!! Six of you managed to comment on yesterday's post, and more sent emails. NOW I'm getting in the spirit. We leave today and will try to post every day.

As far as planned itinerary goes, the first place we talked about was Canada … but family plans required that we leave too early to be sure of the weather. So we changed our destination to Montana/Wyoming/South Dakota … but then we worried about maybe the weather wouldn’t cooperate there either, so we started thinking mayyyyyybe Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona …. but then, we started thinking if we’re considering the Southwest, then mayyyyyyybe we should go to Florida which is conspicuously missing on our geezer-mobile map. Gordon said he would not be surprised to find that we end up in someplace we haven't even discussed.

The general plan for the coming week is to head for Wyoming. It appears that if we are lucky, we will be moving just one jump ahead of the rain. Plans for where to spend tonight are still in flux. I suggested perhaps we just need to get a pet ladybug, toss her on a map and see which direction she goes. But what if she just flies away?

    Stay tuned.
