    • Day 39

      March 8-April 10

      April 10 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

It's been a great month. The weather is warming and the desert is in bloom.🌞
Last month we headed up to Gilbert to play pickleball with our fellow snow birds from Oregon's Hillendale Pickleball Club followed by a pot luck. Thank you Sherry and Kirk for hosting and organizing the event. It was a blast.
Robson Ranch held the Desert Slam Pickleball Tournament. We volunteered and watched some great matches. The Creative Arts Fair was the same weekend and I was able to purchase some unique items.
The community had its annual yard sale where I scooped up some great bargains.
We dined at the area's only food cart pod, the Casa Collective. Good food and a friendly vibe.

Easter weekend I flew home to Portland to celebrate my Uncle Dan's 100th birthday.
Celebrants came from as far away as New York and Texas to honor him.
It was good visiting with the family. Thank you Uncle Dan, Sally and Dave for hosting such an awesome party and to the rest of the family for all their help.
This month we hiked Casa Grande Mountain, bought a bunch of gourds at Wurtz Gourd Farm and participated in Adopt a Highway roadside cleanup. Last night we rocked out at a Doors tribute concert.
As always we're playing a lot of pickleball, bicycling around the community, walking the surrounding desert and sharing meals and fun times with our friends here at RR.

      April 11-15

      April 15 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Our friends, Gary and Carrie, flew in from Gig Harbor, WA Thursday evening. Friday we spent the morning at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. I especially enjoyed The Butterfly and Orchid Pavilion and the Washed Ashore exhibit. https://tucsonbotanical.org/
After a surprisingly good breakfast at Frank's restaurant, the blueberry pancakes were delicious,
      https://www.franksrestaurant.com
we headed up to Mt Lemmon. It was a beautiful drive on a winding road and a great way to beat the heat.
We hiked the Aspen Trail and Marshall Gulch Loop Trail. The beginning of the trail followed a clear cold stream before gaining elevation. We were treated to amazing views and lots of wind at the top. Thanks Carrie! You chose two winners out of the list of activities I sent you.
Saturday we spent a leisurely day playing pickleball followed by lunch at the Robson Ranch Grill then hanging out at our patio.
Departure day came too soon. After morning pickleball and a bite to eat we bid our friends farewell. What a wonderful weekend!

    • Day 111

      March 27-April 17

      April 17, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

We've had a good three weeks in Casa Grande. We spent the first week at Sundance 1 and last two at Fiesta Grande. The weather has been, for the most part, warm/hot and sunny during the day with cool mornings and nights, excellent pickleball and sleeping weather!
After 7 years of full time living in our RV Randy and I purchased our Snowbird home at Robson Ranch in Eloy, Arizona. Robson offered everything we wanted, and more, in an adult community and is located 15 minutes from Casa Grande, conveniently midway between Tucson and Phoenix. We celebrated Easter by taking possession of our new home. Tomorrow we'll park the motorhome in front of our bricks and sticks home to transfer "stuff" from our home on wheels. Our new home came almost completely furnished but we still have plenty to do to make it our own. https://www.robson.com/communities/robson-ranch…
And yes... we do plan on continuing our travels in the motorhome and our home base still is Boring, Oregon.
Hope you all had a wonderful Easter. 🐣🐰✝️

    • Day 156

      April 18-June 1

      June 1, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 91 °F

We've had a fantastic month and a half residing at our Arizona home. It was quite an adjustment getting used to roaming around 1650 square feet of space vs 400.
I spent many hours shopping for deals on furniture, housewares and decor on Nextdoor and Offerup and there were many to be found as this is a fairly transient community.
Randy finally got a Traeger Grill and has prepared some delicious meals on it.
We've been playing pickleball 5-6 times a week with a great bunch of people. The pickleball club here has over 500 members and 16 courts, with plans to add another 16.
We've also been taking evening bike rides around the community and have enjoyed seeing the desert blooms, cotton tails, quail, killdeer and other critters.
I received a beautiful Mother's Day flower arrangement from the kids and my in-laws. ❤️
May 19th Randy and I celebrated the 50th anniversary of our first date with a meal and cocktails at the Robson Grill.
Memorial Day we attended a "Tribute to the Fallen" at the Robson Ranch Ballpark. It was very moving.
The past three days we've been getting ready to begin our journey north. After many Google searches and picking of our neighbors brains we got our home ready to be vacant for six months in the desert. Technology is helpful as we'll be able to monitor/adjust the inside temperature as well as monitor the security system remotely.
With temperatures in the 90°-100°s we're looking forward to cooler weather and a greener landscape not to mention cold rather than warm water out of the faucets.
On our way north we'll spend some time in Fernley, NV,
      Tionesta, CA and Bend OR.

    • Day 336

      November 25-29

      November 28, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

We started our southerly journey with a stop at Speedco in Aurora, Oregon, for our motorhome's annual oil change, lube and change of filters. We'd planned on spending our first night in Canyonville, OR but decided to take advantage of an excellent weather window and pushed through to Corning, CA. The sunset was gorgeous crossing over the Siskiyous into California.
Night two was spent boondocking at Harris Ranch Inn in Coalinga, CA. The Inn was beautiful, fully decorated for Christmas. We took a long walk through the almond grove behind Harris Ranch while munching on almonds leftover from the harvest.
Sunday night we boondocked at Spotlight 29 Casino in Indio, CA where we enjoyed a delicious meal at the Taproom and a poor night's sleep next to the hwy and trucks in their parking lot.
We got an early start yesterday and arrived at our home after an easy five hour drive. We kept very busy yesterday and today transferring a remarkable amount of stuff from the motorhome to our winter home. It's amazing how much our tiny home holds!

    • Day 359

      Nov 30-Dec 21

      December 21, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

We had a good three weeks at our home in Arizona. We spent time making it our own with some additional pieces of furniture and household decor, refurbishing/painting guest room furniture and setting up the patio.
We have wonderful, welcoming neighbors who included us in their happy hour and dinner parties.
After two days of heavy rain we had water views from our home.
Last week we headed up to Chandler and Scottsdale to see their holiday decorations and for some Christmas shopping.
Pickleball and bike riding have been keeping us active.
Yesterday we began the journey back to Oregon for Christmas and after two long days of driving made it to Uncle Kay's in Milwaukie, OR for a week's stay.

    • Day 33

      Jan 1-Jan 29, 2023

      January 29, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 43 °F

Following Christmas we surfed the atmospheric river back to the desert southwest without any mishaps.
Despite some unseasonably cold temperatures here in Arizona, we've been enjoying the sunshine.
This past month we adopted and planted a car load of cactus, agave and aloe from a generous neigbor; purchased a golf cart; attended the Casa Grande Street Fair, Car and Bike Show; watched softball here at RR (Robson Ranch) ; were entertained at the RR talent Show; and of course played a lot of pickleball.
Tuesday, we welcomed our first house guests. Our friends, Gary and Carrie, joined us for five days of fun and sun.
We took them on a tour of RR; hiked at Picacho State Park; watched the skydivers at Sky Dive Arizona; visited Suguaro National Park; took in the South 12th Ave food scene in Tucson; played pickleball; watched movies; talked, laughed and reminisced. We had a great time and hated to see them depart.

    • Day 140

      April 1-May 16

      May 16, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 99 °F

We've really enjoyed seeing the desert come to life during the past month.
I haven't played pickleball for five weeks due to a bum shoulder 😔. It's improved but is easily irritated. I've kept active with 6-8 mile desert and neighborhood walks where I have spotted jack rabbits, coyote, road runners, many cottontails and colorful birds as well as beautiful sunrises and blooming vegetation.
Learning to decorate gourds at the Creative Arts Center here at Robson Ranch has been fun and introduced me to a new group of very talented people. I've also been reading a lot with Lessons in Chemistry, Everything I Never Told You and Demon Copperhead being my favorites.
Randy's been honing his skills on our Traeger, smoking tri tip, chicken, ribs and char siu pork.😋
We've had fun playing shuffle board, pool and cards and sharing food and drink with friends.
Yesterday we hit 100°F and the cold tap water is coming out warm, so time to head north.
We'll take 10 days to make our way back to Boring, OR with stops in Cabazon, Paso Robles, Isleton and Lewiston California and Phoenix, Oregon.

    • Day 339

      Nov 24-Dec 1

      December 1, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

We experienced near perfect weather as we made our way down south. On our way we spent 3 nights at Fortuna de Oro RV Resort in Yuma, AZ. While there the motorhome and car got washed and waxed, we played pickleball, bocce ball and visited friends that we'd met over the years while staying in Desert Hot Springs. We also visited our friend Tom and toured his beautiful new home at the Palms RV Resort.
We arrived at our Robson Ranch home yesterday and have been working hard getting our stuff transferred over from the motorhome.
It's good to be where it's sunny and warm. 😎

    • Day 363

      Dec 2-25

      December 25, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

After spending several days setting up house here in Arizona we've laid low with minimal socializing. I caught a cold then Randy decided to join me two weeks later. 🤧
I brought my late mother's Santa Claus collection down. It was nice having some of her cherished Christmas pieces to decorate our home.
I did manage to get out to the pickleball courts after my cold symptoms subsided. Last week the women's group I play with had a fun Christmas round robin with goodies and hot chocolate with "additives".
Randy and I wish our friends and family a very Merry Christmas 🎄
