    Afternoon Walk

    December 16, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

After Warner Bros. we went looking for lunch, but a lot of things are closed on Sundays. After lunch we went to Griffith Park and did a walk around Hollywood reservoir. We were able to get a view of the Hollywood sign. Half way through the walk we saw a sign at another entrance about beware of black bears and mountain lions. Instructions: don't run, fight back. Lucky for us we only saw 3 deer. It was a lovely walk and very peaceful. A bit worn out afterwards, didn't help we had to walk up a hill to find signal to book an Uber.Read more

    First impressions of LA

    December 15, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

We caught an Uber to our hotel. Interesting drive, either a lot of cement or flash houses. After checking in we went down to the Grove. Kellie said it's the equivalent to Burnside. We didn't go into the shops, just enjoyed the Christmas spirit and some cinnamon pretzel bites. Then we went back to Bob's Big Boy restaurant near our hotel. A traditional diner that was on Brodie's list of things to do. Shower and bed now.Read more

    Morning at Warner Bros.

    December 16, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Had a good sleep, up early to go to Warner Bros. Did a studio tour unfortunately all the shows are on the winter break, so no celebrities. Great to see the working sets and how they change buildings, trees, etc. One of my highlights was seeing squirrels. The other was seeing the Big Bang Theory set. We saw Penny's apartment, Sheldon & Leonard's apartment, the stairwell, walls of Caltech cafeteria and interior set. Each room is very small. Got to hold a real Oscar, it was very heavy. Had a coffee in the 'Friends' cafe. Would have loved to explore and see more sets, but it is a working studio. Now watching BBT- don't know how they make the rooms look so big. Awesome morning.Read more

    Sars' & S'mores

    December 16, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

After our hike, Kellie's boss Lisa told us about a western themed restaurant with a mechanical bull. We decided that's where we would have tea. A good choice, our waiter made our night. He loves Australians and how we shorten everything we say. Asked what a root beer was, so he bought one out for us to taste. It's our sarsparilla. He now knows how to explain to Aussies what a root beer taste like 'it's like your Sars'. Kellie & I shared a meal of chicken and Brodie had a burger. The meal was great. Then Brodie wanted a s'mores platter where you roasted your marshmallows over the fire pit then placed it between Graham's crackers and chocolate. Then the manager bought out this giant cotton candy on the house. Very full and satisfied. Great day all round.Read more

    Brisbane to LA

    December 15, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Had a good trip on the Dreamliner. Love this plane and it's new technology for a smooth ride. Meals were yummy with plenty of snacks if you were hungry, best of all decent size water bottles available all the time. The staff very friendly and relaxed, not a big plane and it wasn't full. We all slept most of they way. Arrive into LA with no hassles through customs, very easy and friendly. Better than Brisbane as I had to go through extra security before boarding plane.Read more

    Clooney and Letterman

    October 12, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Crazy day. I got up early in the morning for the trip from my hotel in downtown Brooklyn to the JFK airport. There was a lot of traffic apparently, so the Uber driver chose an interesting route that passed through half the state. Fortunately there was no line at check in - otherwise I might still be in NYC!

Anyway, after a six hour flight across the nation I landed in sunny L.A. (actually New York was warmer but that’s another story). Now, LAX is probably the worst airport in the Western Hemisphere when it comes to ground transport. I must have spent an hour waiting for the bus to Union Station. Then a train, and another bus to get to my hotel. Quite the journey.

After getting settled at my hotel - the lovely Tangerine where I’ve now stayed 7 times (!) - I got on yet another long drive for an event across town. Just a few days ago I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the taping of a new show with David Letterman. I think it was the first episode. As it turns out, his guest was none other than George Clooney! So there I was - in the second row - watching Letterman interview George Clooney for well over 90 minutes. Pretty unique and intimate experience, in a venue with only 250 people.

Clooney is not only a great actor, but an activist and philanthropist who is engaged in many great causes. It was so fascinating to listen to him talk about his career, and all the great humanitarian work him and his wife are doing. It was also fun to see Letterman again who hasn’t been in the spotlight much since he retired from The Late Show.
