Into Connecticut

So far we’ve travelled through New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. Our last one on this trip is Connecticut. Our destination today is New Haven, on the Atlantic Coast.

The drive takes us through the Delaware Gap Park. Quite scenic as we travel through historic towns and along various lakes and waterways.

We arrived at our hotel just shortly after the start of the semifinal soccer match between France and Belgium. Following the game we drove into town and explore Yale University on foot. We found a small Middle Eastern restaurant where we had dinner before heading back to our hotel.

The day ended with a visit to the fitness center downstairs in the hotel and a bit of TV watching.Read more

Stop and go rush hour 95 N in SW CT. Just what you want after a long, tiring trip. Now I'm just having a little junk food to sit for a minute. This state rest stop looks like a cheap cafeteria and sounds like urban bass.Read more

Ar vilcienu aptuveni pusotras stundas laikā esam klāt. Es gan praktiski visu ceļu noguļu. Viktors mūs sagaida stacijā. Pēc 5min brauciena esam mājās - Gulf street, Milfordā. Divstāvīga māja ar garāžu tipiskā amerikāņu ieliņā ko daudz reizes iepriekš esam redzējuši neskaitāmos seriālos un filmās.
Vakariņās pasūtītas tiek 3 picas. Vienkārši, bet gandrīz neiespējami kļūdīties.
Pie vakariņu galda papļāpājam par vietām, kur bijām un lietām ko darījām iemalkojot pa kādam dzērienam vakariņu laikā. Nākamajā rītā aizejam līdz Milford Harbor līcim. Aizejam arī līdz pilsētas centram un nopērkam pēdējos ēdamos/dzeramos suvenīrus līdzņemšanai un jātaisās garajam ceļam uz mājām.
Pusdienas vēl paēdam mājās. Vakardienas pizza kopā ar Viktora vārīto sēņu zupu. Vēl nodegustējam vietējo New Heaven aliņu. Diezgan labs.
Jātaisās uz lidostu. Brauciens var būt 1.5h, var būt arī 4h, tāpēc jāizbrauc laicīgi. Ņujorkas un apkārtnes satiksme nav prognozējama. Galā brauciens nedaudz virs 2h. Pa ceļam vēl no tāluma redzējām filmas Men in Black galvenās cīņas norises vietu Queens rajonā Unisphere lielo globusu.Read more

1) turns out you can rent a sauna... delivered to you. Not sure why you would want to.
2) Lots of abandoned factory buildings, and lots of barbed wire in parts of Bridgeport.

Fantastic first day. Hot but bearable, and only one incident... Nate walked straight into a pole while admiring one of those big blowy guy things that they use to advertise at used car shops. GoKarts rock, food was tasty, and we're happily settled into our hotel.
