      Schöner Platz am See

      Auf unserer Reise nach Boston machen wir einen Übernachtungsstop an einem der zahlreichen Seen. Die Abendstimmung ist trotz der zahlreichen Mücken sehr entspannt und wir lauschen dem Konzert der Frösche. Am nächten Morgen ist das Wetter sehr angenehm warm und sonnig. Das nutzen wir zum Wäsche waschen und Marie spielt am Wasser und in den Büschen. Am Nachmittag treten wir dann die Weiterfahrt an.Read more

      Saint John bis St. Andrews

      Die Wettervorhersage 🌤️ für Mittwoch ist sehr gut und wir beschliessen, eine weitere Runde Golf 🏌🏻‍♀️ zu spielen. Wir müssen also auf dem Weg von Saint John Richtung Maine 🇺🇸 auch noch einen geeigneten Golfplatz ⛳️ finden. St. Andrews by-the-Sea, das im südwestlichen New Brunswick am Passamaquoddy Bay liegt, erfüllt alle Anforderungen - Hotel und Golfplatz 😊. „The Algonquin Golf Course“ scheint eine feine Adresse zu sein - die Preise 💲 sind aber auch vom Feinsten. Greenfee, Schläger- und Cartmiete hätten zusammen fast $ 400 gekostet 😳. Wir buchen aber Tee Times beim St. Stephen Golf Club, der knapp ein Viertel davon kostet und auch auf dem Weg liegt 😊.

      Nach dem Frühstück geht’s gleich los 🚙 - ich muss wohl noch geschlafen 😴 haben, denn ich verfahre mich gleich zweimal hintereinander und wir verlieren sicher 20 Minuten 😠.

      Nach etwas mehr als 1 ½ Stunden sind wir auf dem Golfplatz ⛳️, fassen die antiken, schmutzigen Schläger (für je $ 10 Miete) und können gleich abschlagen … 🏌️‍♂️. Es braucht ein paar Löcher und Bälle 🫣 bis wir uns an die zu kurzen Eisen und die zu langen Fairwayhölzer gewöhnt haben 😬. Mit dem uralten, stinkenden Golfcart 🛺💨 (mit Rasenmäher-Motor) fliegen wir über die holprigen Fairways und sind froh, dass uns keine Plomben 🦷 herausgerüttelt wurden 😲. Es hat auf jeden Fall Spass gemacht, auf den recht gut gepflegten Fairways und den teils schwierigen Greens zu spielen. Wir hätten auf dem Algonquin Golf Course nicht besser gespielt, aber sicher ein paar Bälle weniger verloren ... 😂.

      Gegen 17 Uhr kommen wir in St. Andrews by-the-Sea 🌊 an und beziehen das Zimmer im B&B. Gleich geht’s auf Erkundungstour durch’s Städtchen und raus auf das Peer - mit den für die Gegend typischen Tall Ships. Da das Mittagessen 🥗 auf dem Golfplatz ausgefallen ist, gab’s ein frühes Abendessen 🥘 und einen Verdauungsspaziergang 🚶🏼‍♀️🚶‍♂️.

      Morgen geht’s über die Grenze nach Maine 🇺🇸 und runter bis nach Rockland.      Read more

      This is the landing place of the very first French colonists who, in 1604, attempted to establish a permanent French foothold on the continent. They built an entire village on the island. Unfortunately, during the first winter which was particularly harsh, 35 of their 79 members perished due to malnutrition and scurvy.       Heute mal relaxt und einige Dinge auf Vorderman gebracht. Wie immer beim Motorradfahren, irgend was läuft immer aus. Also Tasche abbauen Innentasche raus, waschen, trocknen und Buegeln. Nebenzu noch so beobachten was rein und rausfaehrt, Smalltalk mit den Nachbarn und das Wetter genießen.Read more

      Shorey Cove

      Storm day! It was an odd day…..We woke up and had our regular routine. Chad (the fisherman) stopped by around 8:30 to drop off 4 lobsters.
      We pulled up anchor and headed for more protected waters in the morning. Brian had several calls with crew and family, got his website up and sent out lots of emails…. I did the Retreat poster. Emotions were strong on the silent stormy day, and they begged to spill out onto a page. Decided to address it, to open the box, we had a good chat.
      Lobster 1 died and we ate it in the afternoon, the other three in the evening!

      Day 13

      In the pastel

      Up early as always and enjoy spending the morning in the pilot house reading or writing in quiet while Brian does the same, sipping our coffee. Watched him view, and make adjustments to his pastel before doing some chores on the boat and waited for Chad to arrive, but he never did. We went to shore and Brian did a Pastel while I found a cosy spot on a fallen tree (albeit ants found me) to read my book. We then walked the mile long beach before heading back to the boat to make a delicious super (haddock, salad, baked potato). Our provisions are getting low but a storm is rolling in so we will find a sheltered place on the other side of the island to wait it out.

      Roque

      August 6, 2023 in the United States

      Great day! Even though the weather hasn’t been warm (by my standards) it has still been enjoyable and my foul weather gear has got lots of use!
      We had a pot wrapped around the prop from yesterday’s sail and Brian had to gear up for cold water and take the plunge to unsnag us. There is a cold water advisory warning people not to go into the waters due to the low temperatures. He was brave!!
      We revelled in the sun (and no wind) afterwards untill the wind picked up.
      Off to a shack on shore to do a pastel and then on the way back to the boat we detoured to say hi to a fishing boat that had come into this secluded anchorage. Chad and his family were relaxing for the day. The told us that there was a path to the lighthouse behind the shack, and after he promised to bring us lobster, we headed back to the shack.
      Went for a walk down the wooden path to the lighthouse — a beautiful sight.
      Then onto the stressful, lobster pot filled waterway to Roque island. The waterway inlet gave way to a gorgeous beach and some warm and protected waters. Fishing boats were rafted together, so once we got settled, we decided to go visit them and head to the beach to clean the hairy scum off the dingy. One of the boats gave us 3 lobsters (Brian asked if they had extra). They were cooked so we feasted in the beach before dealing with the dingy and heading back to Lorena.
      We had a bit more to eat before the guitar came out and I wafted off to lala land.      Read more

      Bye Bye PEI

      Heute hieß es dann Abschied nehmen von PEI. Schön war es! So wie wir rüber gekommen sind, so ging es auch zurück, nur dieses als mussten wir für die 13 km lange Brücke bezahlen. Danach ging es auf den Highway, Km fressen, da es jetzt nichts mehr besonderes zu sehen gab.
      Abends sind wir auf einem Campingplatz in Sankt Andrews gelandet. Da heute der erste Tag mit vernünftigen Temperaturen war, konnten wir endlich mal zelten. Den Zelt Aufbau mussten wir wieder neu lernen, aber nach einiger Zeit hat es dann ganz gut geklappt. Danach ging es in die 🍺& 🍻& 🍷Halle und in einen Supermarkt.
      Hier bleiben wir bis Samstag, bevor wir in die 🇺🇸 fahren. Die Teile für die KTM sind heute auch angekommen, somit sollte am Dienstag der Reparatur an Kerstin Gabel nichts mehr im Wege stehen.      Read more

      Unser Schlafplatz für eine Nacht. Nahe am Highway und doch fast schon fast in der Wildniss. Den Platz teilen wir uns mit 2 Biberbauten und einigen Biberfallen...

      Day 11

      Mistake Island

      August 5, 2023 in the United States

      What a trip! We saw Jim (from the Marina) who was checking on how the night went and making sure we got off the ball 🙂. We pulled up anchor shortly after 10am and heading toward Mistake Island. We had the Jenny out but didn’t put up the Main sail. It took longer then expected and there were lots of pots to zigzag around. Unfortunately, we snagged one after coming through a narrow passage. We bobbed around in 27ft of water as Brain worked to cut away the pot. Jim mentioned that folks had just come back from Mistake and Roque and really liked Mistake, so following the charts, we headed into the first entrance (before the lighthouse). It looked horrible and at the last minute (after seeing 2 feet on the Sonar) Brian quickly pulled out of the area. We ended up heading down the Main Channel and into a quiet and secluded anchorage, covered by smooth rock. There was a rock fairly close by and I was worried most of the night that the anchor wouldn’t hold. Brian turned in the anchor alarm and it seems that we were ok.Read more
