    Finger Lakes Pt 2

October 4 in the United States

We really like the Finger Lakes. Especially the south end. We have been in Watkins Glen since Monday. While the sun has been hiding most of the week, we have driven about 400 miles to take in the views, visit the Corning Glass Museum, drive the track at Watkins Glen International Speedway, hike the Gorge Trail at WG State Park (passing 19 waterfalls), and visit Ithaca (Cornell University).

The city campground in Watkins Glen is literally across the street from Seneca Lake. Was pretty empty until Thursday when it began to fill up for their LAST weekend of the season.Read more

    Watkins Glen, NY

July 7, 2017 in the United States

Ohhhhhh, the Jeep has linkage problems (whatever that is) so we may be here for a few extra days. Too bad its wine country.

In the meantime, Peggy Asseo was curious about the inside of our RV. Now this is a 1996 -- meaning "vintage" --Rexhall Rexair, which apparently was well thought of in its day. They were made in California and though the company is out of business, there is still a fan club out on the web and on Facebook. But it IS 20 years old, so Dale keeps up with those small items that wear out, like air conditioner covers (see our Cooperstown footprint) and door latches. But it has the important things, like a comfortable bed, refrigerator and freezer, microwave/convection oven, a full bathroom, and an engine that runs.Read more

    Watkins Glen State Park

July 9, 2017 in the United States

What's here? For us it was walking trails and waterfalls. And I'm talking hilly walking trails so that by the end, all three of us were worn out. There is a Gorge Walk for incredible waterfall views, but dogs are not allowed. But it is a lovely park and obviously very popular.

So we hit the road into wine country, going up Rt 414 along the eastern side of Seneca Lake and heading to Ovid, NY. Why Ovid?--that is where Dales's maternal grandmother, Anne Louise Clark, was born in 1908.

Below, one of the wines from Coyote Moon that we bought at a farmers market earlier in the week.
