      Roadtrip nach St. Augustine

      July 8, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

      Premium Outlets - Shoe shopping

      October 4, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Anyone who has ever shoe shopped with me will know, its no fun to try and find a size 15.

But in the US size 15s are as readily available as a size 9 in SA. Naturally I have always said I am going to buy a bunch of shoes in the US on the way back to SA and mail them to myself.

I just had the most fun ever trying to buy as many shoes as i can fit into a 10x10x15" box. In fact I was spoilt with choice.

      Aqaurium

      July 4, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

      Mega flot.

      Visiting Friends

      November 3, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Jeff's main job is teaching deaf and hard of hearing kids (coaching diving is his secondary job and his real passion). St. Augustine is Deaf Central Florida; the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind (FSDB) is located there, as is Flagler College which has a deaf education program, so naturally we had friends there.

We flew into Orlando Airport, got into our rental car, and drove for about 1 hour and 45 minutes to St. Augustine. Arriving in St. Augustine in the early afternoon, we headed to Michella and JC's home west of St. Augustine and spent the afternoon there. Michella was Jeff's former co-worker from the Hawaii School for the Deaf, and she and JC relocated to St. Augustine for her to teach at Flagler College after she completed her PhD. We spent the afternoon catching up, getting acquainted with their cute 9-month old baby, and checking out the 2-acre plot of land they bought, and the area around.

After visiting with Michella and JC, we checked in to Jaybird’s Inn, and we went for the rehearsal dinner after.

      St. Augustine for a Few

      February 23, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

In keeping with the new “travel theory”, I will plan stops not more than 250 miles apart. Thats a far cry from the west Coast trip, where 600 per day was the plan. While that got me there quickly, it also quickly became tiresome.

So this trip, we’re taking it slow and looking for only the best parks. This far, it’s been very successful as I’d return anytime to the places I’ve been to so far... Contrarily, I would say that there are only 2-3 parks I’d return to from the 2018 trip west.

The real problem is though, that I’m hitting Snowbird country while it’s still high season....so reservations are very difficult.

We have this park from today, leaving Monday, (and these 2 days were lucky) then heading south to Port St. Lucie. While that’s a nice park, it’s a 45-50 minute drive to Jupiter (the actual goal for fishing and Rosie’s daycare). So we’re good there until the following Tuesday (3/5).

Next stop? I thought about heading further south but that’s problematic on a number of fronts...you get heavier into Snowbirds and reservation issues (Fla is packed); the further south you go, the longer the trip back; and finally, it gets hotter (81 in St. Aug today).

So right now, from Port St. Lucie I’m leaning toward heading west to the gulf side and see how that goes. It’s an easy (2-3 hr) drive across the state with lots of options.

      Stay tuned.
