      Day 40 - Pinkham Notch

      August 12 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Very windy last night. Rained for a little bit, that I was not expecting. Also very cold which made it all the more difficult to get out of my sleeping bag and get moving for the day.

Had a chat to the hiker Leaf that had camped near me. He recommended I use an app called AccuWeather instead of Google to get my weather reports. Had a look at it, Freemium, you need to pay a subscription for hourly precipitation forecasts, which is the bit I'm most interested in. I think I'll just keep using google for now.

Passed the ski lift, closed now until the snow season. I saw a big eagle/hawk but it was gone by the time I was ready to take a picture of it.

Went off the trail for a bit (accidentally). Crossed a stream, I thought I could make it by rock hopping but had to take my boots off and wade about halfway across. Then I came to the tunnel which was closed off, so after consulting my maps I went back across the stream (was easier jumping across the rocks from this direction, didn't have to deboot) and picked up the trail again. After a while I crossed the river again at the proper place - where there is a brand new bridge!

Called in at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Centre. Touched a beaver skin and a moose antler (I have yet to see either of these two animals!). There is a video feed from the top of Mt Washington, where I will hopefully be soon.

Staying at the Joe Dodge Lodge tonight. Had a buffet dinner - ate 2 rolls with pulled pork and 1 with chicken breast. Mac and cheese as well, as well as some other stuff.

      Bonus picture of a chipmunk.
