      Saigon Sightseeing

      We used the City Sightseeing Hop on Hop off bus as a way to navigate the congestion and avoid heat exhaustion and saw the main sights as well as two museums. We also stopped in at the historical post office and Nancy mailed a post card to Jan who loved picking them up and sorting out how to post them in Europe! We finished off the day with dinner at a rooftop bar just block from our neighborhood as we had an early flight out the next day to Bali, Indonesia after 17 days in Vietnam.Read more

      Memorial Day - Remembrance Service

      Home of the free because of the brave!

      Our Ship's Memorial Day tribute to all those that we lost in Service to our Country was held this afternoon. Our Cruise Director read a beautiful statement that helped everyone recall the wars fought for freedom and remember the ultimate sacrifice made by so many.

      We then had a moment recognizing all those that Served in all of the Branches of the military and a moment of silence for those no longer with us. We had a representative of the Army and Air Force read poems and then they played the National Anthem of the UK, New Zealand, Australia and the USA (attached). It was an important Remembrance Service for those so far from home. Thank you.      Read more

      Um die halbi 10 hemmer üs mitm Taxi uf de Weg zum Hotel gmacht. Im Hotel hemmer den üses Gepäck hinder dReception chöne due, hend üs schnell i bequemi Chleider gschmisse und hend üs ufd dStrasse vo Ho Chi Minh begeh. De Jetleg sitzt tüf aber mir hend gwüsst dassmer bis am 14:00 Uhr durehebe müend willmer erscht den im Zimmer ihchecke chönd. Mir sind üs einig gsi dass zerscht mal en Kafi here muess demit mir die paar Stunde irgendwie überstah chönd. Mit ufgschwullne Bei, ufquillte Füess, müede Auge & em Mulegge am Bode hend mir üs dur dStrasse vo dere dreckige, stinkige aber glich ihdrückliche Stadt gschliffe.🥱 Wommer üs den immer und immer wieder verloffe hend isch den de letschti Funke Humor auno verschwunde.       Nach paar erholsame Stündli im Zimmer hemmers den am Abig für de zNacht doch no id Stadt gschafft und hend üs glich nöd müesse vom Zimmerservice bediene lah.🤭🥡 Nach wenige Stunde Schlaf het üs de Wecker hüt am Morge am 6i wieder usem Bett gschellet. Ahschlüssend isches mitm Taxi witers richtig Busbahnhof gange. Imme chline heruntergekommene Hüttli miteme Kabelsalat ah de Wänd, emne Plastikhöckerli as Bürostuehl und öppe zwölf verschiedene Telefon ufm Tisch, hemmer sOrganisatorische für die knapp 5.5 stündig Fahrt Richtig Mûi Né chöne erledige.☎️🫣 @Moni @Ele @Nina, ich glaube mir münd mit üsm Bürostandart und em Thema „Ergonomie am Arbetsplatz’ mal e Stufe abefahre, wie ihr gsend gats nämlich au anderscht.😂🤪 Mit lange Hose und emne dicke Pulli hemmer üs für die vermuetlich übermässig klimatisiert Busfahrt usgrüschtet.🥶🍦Ez simmer gspannt was üs für e Busfahrt mit Sapa Vietnam erwartet.🚌Read more

      Apartment Hopping: Mosaic Making

      I've spent the last hour drinking guava tea and making the ugliest mosaic coaster you have ever seen in the cutest DIY cafe.

      The cafe has a resident short nosed rag doll cat with the funniest expression. She is an absolute cutie and loves a rub!!! You can make all sorts of things here, from postcards to mosaic coasters, and scented candles. All whilst drinking tea and soaking up the dainty and cute atmosphere.

      03.09.2024 Ho Chi Minh City Day 2/4

      Good morning Vietnam! Following breakfast at our hotel we were picked up by Pham, our guide we hired from Tours by Locals. We have an all day tour.
      Our guide Long Pham and driver Huyen picked us up at our hotel.
      Our first stop was a lacquer shop where Vietnamese who were impacted by Agent Orange work. We saw the process of turning rosewood into a beautiful piece of lacquer art using duck egg shells, mother of pearl and paint before applying the lacquer.
      Our next stop was the Cu Chi Tunnels. This where the Viet Cong ( south Vietnamese who supported the communist north) built out this elaborate 155 miles of tunnels at various depths to hide from US soldiers they called tunnel rats.
      They were super tiny and we only crawled through a very very small section.
      Following our tunnel tour we stopped and had a traditional Vietnamese lunch. Way too much food for the two us. Diana enjoyed the pork cutlet with lemon sauce and the papaya carrot salad.
      We drove back into the city. We saw wealth and poverty as we drove.
      Once in the city we toured Unification Palace. This is where on April 30, 1975 a tank driven by the Viet Cong crashed through the gates and a N Vietnamese plane bombed the palace thus ending the Vietnam war.
      Our next stop was at the Post Office and an opportunity to take a photo of where the last Americans were taken off the roof of the CIA building by helicopter. Long Pham wanted to buy us a beer so cheers to that.
      Next we visited the War of Remembrance Museum as told from the Communist point of view. Vietnam, while very progressive is still a communist country.
      Our final stop was Ben Thanh Market which is like a big flea market. We picked up a couple of t shirts.
      Back to our hotel room to shower off the day’s sweat and grime.
      We are tired and have another long day tomorrow so we are eating at our hotel and calling it a night. A few pics of the 12th floor dining room. One video to watch the traffic flow.      Read more

      יש לי יומהולדת השמחה רבה

      כבר כמה ימים שהמשפחה והחברים מהארץ שואלים מה התוכניות ליום הולדת, וכבר כמה ימים שאני קצת חסרת תשובה. עד היום שנכנסו לויאטנם לא הרגשתי שזה באמת בטוח ולא באמת סגרנו כלום. מעבר לזה הרגיש לי קצת מטופש לחגוג יום הולדת בטיול, הרי כל יום פה הוא ״היום שלי״ אז לעשות יום כיף זה קצת מוזר, כי הכל ממש כיף פה.
      על כל התחושות האלה- מזל שיש את תמיר.
      איכשהו בעזרת ההיכרות השטחית שיש בנינו הוא הצליח לתכנן לנו יום שהרגיש באמת מיוחד וכיף

      ארוחת בוקר עם קפה ביצה משהו מוזר ומקומי שבמקום קצף מקציפים ביצה, בגלל שתמיר כנראה אלרגי לביצים של המזרח (לפחות לשל קמבודיה ומאז לא מנסים) טעמתי לבד וזה בטעם של בלילה של עוגת שוקולד שאמא מכינה ליומהולדת ומלקקים את המטרפים בסוף (יאמ!)
      אחכ הלכנו לשוק פרחים מדהים עם מלא סוגים ופגשנו שם מלא מקומיים חמודים ותוכי אחד מדבר. קנינו שלושה לוטוסים שהמוכרת המתוקה לימדה אותנו בדידקטיות איך לקפל את העלים בצורה מסורתית ויפה.
      אחכ למרות מהמורה קלה בדרך של הזמנת מלון מאכזבת זוכינו בביטול ומונית חינם ובשילוב כוחות עם המתנה של אימי היקרה נסענו לחדר מפנק מאד מאד במלון!
      את כל שעות הצהריים העברנו בו, משחקים בגקוזי (אפילו השתמשנו בפצצת אמבטיה שקנינו באימפולסיביות בתאילנד ביום השני בערך) ונהנים מהמרחבים.
      אפילו קפצנו בוויב יוקרתי לקניון בו תמיר רכש לעצמו מתנה ליומהולדת שלי (כי זה מרגיש ממש כמו יומהולדת לשנינו)
      בערב הלכנו למסעדה מגניבה ממש שכל המלצרים בה חרשים. קיבלנו תפריט עם הסברים איך לתקשר בשפת הסימנים- גם מילון כללי וגם מילון לפי התפריט וככה מדברים עם המלצר ומזמינים את האוכל. זה היה די מצחיק וקצת מוזר אבל ממש כיף והאוכל היה ממש טעים ומיוחד (מלא בליצי)
      וככה בערב מלאים באוכל טעים ובאלכוהול נרדמנו במיטה המפנקת ביותר.
      מאושרת ממש שהייתה לי את היכולת לחגוג יומהולדת במקום ככ מיוחד עם אדם שאני אוהבת.

      תחושת החגיגיות המשיכה גם היום עקב החדר המפנק.
      אכלנו ארוחת בוקר מטורפת במלון, הסתובבנו קצת ברחובות מתפלאים מכמה הם שונים אחד מהשני, חלק נקיים וענקיים וחלק מטונפים.
      אחכ הגענו לרובע היפני ואכלנו את הגיוזות הכי טעימות שאכלנו בחיים, קיבלנו עוגת יומהולדת מפתיעה מהמלון וניסיתי פעם ראשונה להיות בסאונה (חוויה מיוחדת להזיע את חייך מרצון אבל מאד התמסרתי) וטעמנו מאכל מקומי שכלל סוג של גולאש ובאגט (כמה כיף שהיו פה צרפתים)

      מחר כבר אנחנו נוסעים בלילה לדאלאת. סגרנו סליפר ראשון לטיול ואנחנו מתרגשים מאד ומלאים בתחושות חגיגה      Read more

      Erkundungstour 2.0

      Heute gings zu Fuss auf Sightseeing-Tour!

      Im nahen City Center gibt es viel schönes zu entdecken. Neben belebten Märkten auch ruhige Pärke.
      Nachts sieht das Center aus wie der NYer Times Square 😊🏬

      Am Abend genossen wir eine typisch asiatische Massage mit vielen Verrenkungen 😂
      Später suchten wir uns ein eher typisches vietnamesisches Restaurant. Natürlich wurde wieder mit Stäbchen gegessen 👍🏼
      Da wir nicht verstanden, was auf der Karte stand, hat mein Mann einfach mal bestellt...zum Glück haben wir erst nach dem Essen gefragt, was wir auf dem Teller hatten 😂🙈      Read more
