      Hotel Marconi

      June 21, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

A beautiful hotel in Milano covered in marble and gold leaf. Traditional, classic decor.

We’re only here one night but it’s enough time to experience the rooftop bar on floor 9. Great views of the city.Read more

      Our luck continues-Salernitano dal 1978

      May 1, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

So after travelling via bus and train for 10 hours from Salzburg to Milan, existing on a croissant and coffee for breakfast and a shared caprese roll grabbed in Verona train station, we were exhausted and hungry by the time we arrived at our apartment.
We dropped off our bags and headed for the nearest restaurant. How fortunate were we that it happened to be Ristorante Salernitano Dal 1978? The food was gorgeous; or did it taste that good because we were so hungry? Well, we'll soon find out because we are going back there tonight! It was that good.

      Milano Day 2

      July 5, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

31,000 steps today. Enough said. I walked and walked and walked and sightsaw and did all the things today! One thing about Milan is that every building is an art piece- the architecture is a sculpture in itself, it’s beautiful. My eyes were never on the ground. I saw many ‘palazzo’s’ which were just nice buildings- but every building was a nice building. I went into the church of San Gregorgio which was smaller, but the thing about churches here is that they are filled with sculptures and artwork, it’s literally a museum.
After some of that, I walked through two parks- one of which had a water turtle home which was so cute. After more walking, I met up with one of my hostelmates- Blanca (who’s birthday is also October 6th😆) who is an 18 year old girl from a small town in Germany (she said it takes 8 minutes to walk across the whole thing). We had some pizzas and then parted ways. I went to use the toilet next door, just to find that it would not be a toilet…
After, I went to see the Sforzesco Castle, which honestly, was mostly ugly. After, I headed over to the main attraction, the Duomo Milano Cathedral which was big and beautiful. There were insane sculptures and stained glass images, each of which told stories of rich history. Now, I’m not really Christian, but I could really appreciate the the art and craft of the church. The pictures do not do it justice whatsoever. Fun fact, it took about 600 years to complete. Also- i did my university course registration in the church LOL
After 8 hours of walking, I felt that it was time to head back to the hostel. I met my new hostelmate- Aleksandra, from Estonia, and three girls from Paris, in the kitchen. Blanca very kindly made me some pasta for dinner, and everyone else was making pasta too (is this a disgrace to Italian food?!). We shared wine, music, and stories until we got kicked out of the common space at 12am. We had the bright idea to continue our antics and try to find a bar, but Milano is a DEAD CITY, and everything closes so early. We went as far as to bus to the lone club that is open til 5, but there is no way that im paying €25🙄🙄. After searching for a motive for about 2 hours we gave up and headed home.

      Kis esti séta

      September 16, 2019 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Szóval ő lemozogta a kaját 😁😁
Fél 10 után sikerült végre elindulni a hotelhez de ha már nagy séta nem volt kerestünk egy fagyizót. Mini és kis adag fagyikat kértünk de így is volt 20 perc mire meg tudtuk enni 😳

      In search of Madaripur!

      May 17 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Well .. after a nice tasty dinner and dessert, during which I watched the extra time to some soccer match (ended in a draw 2-2) at baldassarria and enjoyed heavenly tiramisu with beer and cigarettes (good combo for me I realized), I decided to call a taxi to go to my hotel far far away.

First I thought I will get some groceries, cigarettes etc for the night. Searched for a local tabacchi.. searched Google and got a store called Madaripur Mini market (or something like that). Hmm ... The Bangladeshi guy at the station said he's from Madaripur - to which I nodded as if I know the place. Madaripur again? Googled. It's a place/region in Bangladesh as expected. Maybe the guy was in a train with me from Turin to Milan to come to this store to work, or maybe family of the owner of the shop! Had to find out.

Biked around at 1130pm in central Milan to find the shop. Found it. Got to speak in bangla with the owners and bought my stuff.

BTW, I'm confidently speaking bangla to anyone who seems 40%+ desi to me now. No misfires yet. Saying to hawkers selling knickknacks "na dada .. chai na" (no brother, I don't need it) etc and getting very good response so far.

No, that random guy at station has nothing to do with the shop owners. But I got my closure (and groceries)!

Called a taxi. It showed something like $70 to go there. 40 minutes by car! Hotels.com 🤬🤬🤬🤬!!! That means I have to spend something similar to come to the city center again tomorrow. So much for biking around the city center for me. Will try to call and fight with hotels.com but Pooja advised not to since I didn't check the distance ... they won't refund.

After talking to Pooja decided to check in to a hotel nearby. Saw this one called hotel Paradiso. Seemed nice to look at ... At least the signs were all properly lit (no missing letters or flickering neon sign). Walked in, he said $70 a night and found myself the tiniest hotel room I've been in. Very happy so far (it's been 5 minutes in the room). It even has breakfast and has 4 stars!!! I should have checked all this before I paid for the room, but still .. I checked (after paying)! So that's the end of my adventure tonight.

Maybe I open a beer (Ceres pronounced CHeres, my new fav beer here), plan tomorrow's activities, smoke and sleep off. Gnite!

      Sightseeing Milano Teil II

      July 24, 2021 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

      😴

      Museums and Palaces

      December 19, 2017 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 0 °C

Today was quite a wonderful day. Weather was cold but sunny and we did a lot of walking. One gorgeous art museum, one 15th century castle and a lot of detours down pretty residential streets made for a full day. Highlights of the museums --!a 12th century holy water bucket, some Romanesque capitals, a Picasso painting and the pieta Michelangelo was carving when he died.

On the way back to the hotel around 5 pm, we passed a fitness center about 3 minutes from the hotel. Since Joe was going to rest anyway, I decided to go work out on the elliptical. 15€ is quite a steep charge, but it's worth it. I am addicted, let's face it. But it was a much better workout than yesterday, when I walked up and down four flights of stairs in the hotel for an hour.

We had dinner tonight in a lovely Osteria called Fara. Close to the hotel. Great ambiente and top notch pizza in a wood oven. One more day in Milan. Love to you all.

      Milano loodusmuuseum

      July 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Dinosaurused on ikka päris vinged.Read more
