    Hacienda's garden and patio

    June 6 in Mexico ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

Attention to detail throughout hacienda and garden ex: Dark brown wine bottles turned upside down and placed into ground to make a border - see pic of bamboo tree and garden “centre”. Choice of plants and trellis work. Small private sitting areas with stone borders.

    Puebla to Orizaba

    June 6 in Mexico ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Late start as slept in and long time getting breakfast from restaurant that advertised take out. Wendy practising Spanish at restaurant. Stopped for coffee and gas outside Puebla. Crosby licking whipped cream from Dad’s coffee. We never imagined our last meal would be coffee until 6:00pm.... drove down a steep winding divided 2 lane each way highway.- see pic. Incredible mountains...saw a village in the distance and in the pic with a light standard, you can see houses going up the mountainside to the top almost. When driving into Orizaba saw sign for the Holiday Inn next to low income housing- see pic- what a discrepancy... Squeezed through small roads in Orizaba trying to find our Airbnb. Wendy our in front of car making sure Jim didn’t scrap the sides of cars parked along the side of the small road. Texted host and it was one street over. Incredibly beautiful hacienda- see next posting. Got there at 2:00 and spent all afternoon trying to turn the trailer around- Jim disconnected the hitch from the car, we unloaded part of the front of the trailer, used the wheels from the utility saw table and then the cart to try to turn back wheels but no luck. Finally got the hitch connected to the car and moved away from the gate of the house but Jim not sure what tomorrow will bring.... need to back trailer in line with the gate and then back it up all the way down the street....by 5:00 thunder and downpour. Crosby barking at the thunder. One day we will laugh about this afternoon....
Finally stopped while getting soaked in the downpour. Thought we would only have cheese and graham crackers for supper but Jim made pasta dish with lime, seasoning and egg whites (to thicken it) for the sauce plus chicken from drumsticks we had cooked 2 days ago and had frozen. Love the car fridge!! It has come in so handy!

    Authentic small Mexican town

    June 4 in Mexico ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Found our way to Temascalcingo. Driving in saw many, many open to the street businesses selling pottery. Definitely feel like the minority- only white couple here I think. Extremely small streets that Jim had to navigate the trailer through. Many local police noted in city square. Wendy walked Crosby around a few blocks. Lots of stray and owned dogs with poop everywhere. Had to watch where you were placing your feet along the sidewalk. Jim able to back the trailer in- amazing feat! Found out last night the Airbnb rental would not agree to give his name and address for our visa papers. Today found out needed to have current address on papers... so need to find some place that will agree to have a contract- hoping we don’t have to do this site unseen for a long term lease...Putting out many emails to the network in Cozumel as well as realtors that may have rentals. Thunderstorm in early evening followed by a downpour. Jim found a small store front restaurant with a street vendor “Tacos Pastor”- excellent - 4 small but very filling - soft tacos with pineapple, cilantro and flavourful shredded pork that came off a vertical spit (like a gyro). We each had 4. Total price 120 pesos or $9.00 Canadian. Sooo good!

Next day drove from Temascalcingo to Puebla. Fields of corn being planted- see pic. After leaving, initially felt we were in the middle of nowhere - on GPS couldn’t see a major highway for awhile- wondering when next gas station would be. Wendy on iPad most of the time connecting with an Airbnb who agreed to have a contract with us for 6 weeks until we find something else we like long term. Driving for Jim was crazy- busy 4 lane divided highway and semis were cutting in and out of lanes like they were race cars... then challenge of finding parking downtown as our hotel had underground parking with a height that wouldn’t fit the trailer. Found an open public parking lot. Wendy grabbed take out from a popular, close restaurant (Fisher’s)- food not nearly as nice as the tacos last night. Walked to a wine store- nice to stretch- mild weather. Quiet evening.

    Tequila impressions-> Guadelajara

    June 4 in Mexico ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Will always associate Tequila with two “T’s” .... topes and turds.... humongous topes (speed bumps) that were every few feet and turds (dog poop)...had to watch where you placed your feet....

When driving out of town early this am saw many pop bottles on the side of the road next to the train tracks. So sad. Also saw workers in the agave fields already working at 7:30. Parts of newer road had no shoulders so Jim had to watch where trailer was situated. Went thru Guadalajara during rush hour at 8:30- was an accident so traffic was slow which made it easier for us to find our way thru various turnoffs.Read more

    Mazatlan to Tequilla

    June 2 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Wendy really doesn’t like the drive from Tepic to Tequilla- 4 lane divided highway but very twisty and steep/sharp inclines & declines with lots of semis... 36 degrees when we arrived at 4:00. Eventually found our Airbnb behind an unassuming brown gate which opened to a paving stone driveway and 2 beautiful homes - the Airbnb has an outdoor dining area with a koi pond and decorated inside in red and grey- huge spaces but some ants. Went to a local Mexican place for dinner- shrimp fajitas, fish enchiladas, (bother with rice), 2 beer and a bottled water for 20.00 Canadian. Left overs will be for breakfast. colourful painted murals on wall.Read more

Drive to, and at the beach in, Mazatlan

    June 1 in Mexico ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Friday- drove the highway from Los Mochis- roads very bumpy, dodging pot holes and many, many expensive tolls. Staying in a very nice Airbnb in a new development x 2 nights. Close to Seriano food store. Found a cone for Crosby. People up late above us playing music @ ? 2 am. Then Koda up at 4:30.
Too bad we didn’t get a video of Koda at the beach on Sat lol. She was constantly pulling at the leash wanting to GO!! Skipping along like she does. Crosby barking at the massive pelicans in the sky and birds on the beach. Good intro to the beach and sand. Koda wanted to go in the water and both initially tried to taste the water- finally able to find a restaurant on the beach that would take our dogs. They were introduced to Mexican chips & loves them lol. Did more planning for going forward.

Stayed here as Deb said it was a cute little town.... well not any more! Lots of development with business’ etc. Looked for vet for Crosby’s raw paw (dorsal aspect of back left). Drive to Caborca thru desert

    May 28 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Got up early as driving @ 7 hrs. Saw the beautiful Guadeloupe valley of wineries before going to Tecate to pick up our wine from the custom’s broker. Then thru very hilly and Rocky Mountain then the desert. Saw the brown border fence (as close as 100 metres from the highway) and various cacti (some clumped together sprouting directly up from the ground, others a single trunk then branching 1/2 way up).Read more
