The ups and downs of paddleboarding

Emma, Adam and I decided to go 'stand-up' paddleboarding today. Conditions appeared calm but when we got out into the bay, there was a strong wind and current to contend with. We did okay for a while but eventually all three of us took tumbles into the Indian Ocean! My confidence had increased after I survived the wake of a speedboat zooming past me but a lapse of concentration saw me hit the water soon after. Then it was a case of getting back on the board - eventually I made it and kneeling, I made slow progress back to shore. On arrival, it was pointed out to me that i had the board the wrong way around and my style was 'unique'.
After that we had a leisurely lunch and a peaceful, relaxing afternoon on the beach with our kindles, books and magazines.Read more
