    Moonlight Bay

    Nach einer Fahrt mit vielen verschiedenen Landschaften welche uns teilweise an die Toskana erinnerte mit alten Steinhäusern, sind wir am späten Nachmittag in der Moonlight Bay angekommen in welcher wir unsere vorerst letzten Tage direkt am Strand verbringen werden!

    Danach fahren wir nach Port Lincoln um ganz frischen Thunfisch abzuholen für Sashimi 😍 bevor wir dann nach Port Augusta und dann quer durch NSW trucken um pünktlich an die Sunshine Coast zu gelangen 🤗

    Tumby Bay, Australia

    Am 31.03.2018 ging es von "Port Augusta" mit kurzen Zwischenstopps in "Whyalla", "Cowell" und "Arno Bay" zu unserer kleinen, 'privaten' Oase - "Tumby Bay". Hier fanden wir einen wirklich tollen Stellplatz, den wir, bis auf kurzweilige Besucher, ganz für uns allein genießen konnten. Mit einem Barbecue (übrigens auch so eine tolle Sache hier in Australien, dass es an vielen öffentlichen Plätzen Barbecues gibt, die zur freien Verfügung stehen), Wasser und Toiletten hatten wir quasi unser eigenes Reich. Es gab einen kleinen Aussichtsturm und herrliche Sonnenuntergänge. Da wir uns hier so wohl fühlten, blieben wir gleich zwei Nächte und ließen einfach ein wenig die Seele baumeln, bevor wir am 02.04.2018 die Weiterreise nach "Port Lincoln" antraten.Read more

    Tumby Bay

    Tumby Bay was a cute little town on the way to our next stop at Port Gibbon. We were told to stop here to view the street art and we weren’t disappointed. You had to seek out some of the art as it wasn’t always obvious.Read more

    Tumby Bay

    Tumby Bay is a coastal town situated on the Spencer Gulf, on the eastern coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, 45 kilometres north of Port Lincoln. Mainly known as a fishing town.

    We stayed at the local caravan park which had lovely owners. Unfortunately it rained for most of our time in Tumby Bay but we managed to occupy ourselves with a drive into Port Lincoln. This where we found a good push bike shop and purchased our bikes. We also had an awesome meal at the local pub in Tumby Bay lunch.Read more

    Cape Hardys Beach Campground

    This is at Cowleys Beach, between Tumby Bay and Port Neill along the coast. This camping spot has an honesty box, which uses our chosen fee to camp here as donation for RFDS. We happily put in $10 ($5 each effectively). There is no mobile service/coverage here so I know we'll have a beaut relax - enjoying our coastal view. Very happy with our choice of camp today - it's a bit windy but so lovely watching the water and taking in the scenery. We have our lunch, cheese and vegemite sandwiches, then go for a walk along the beach. We go up on higher ground and follow the coast - very rugged rocks, great views. Back at camp I lie on our bed and finish a book I'm reading, Roger continues to poke around outside. Once I finish my book we go for another walk trying to find old Homestead remains and a child's grave - but we have no success with this. At camp, we meet our closest neighbouring campers, Leonie and ???(I've forgotten) and their rottweiler dog Kuna (as in Arkuna-ma-tutta) as they go for a walk past us - stop and chat for a while, lovely fellow Victorians (Melb) on 5 weeks holiday. Tea tonight we have mince tacos - too full to worry about dessert. Roger has his shower and then washes the dishes. I finish off deleting junk emails on my mobile and dry the dishes and tidy up. We have a cuppa and now relaxing - I'll find a new book to start reading shortly, and join Rog reading before bedtime.
    19/02/25 Wednesday We enjoy a lie in - nothing planned except to get to our next camping spot which isn't far away. So I stay in bed reading until after 8am, Roger got up around 7.45am to have his breakfast. I get up and have my breakfast too, then we go for a walk together along Cowleys Beach. Once we return I have a shower, then help get ready to leave here. We drive away just after 10am.    Read more

    Tumby Bay

    Park in one of the main streets of Tumby Bay. Ready to go for a walk to look around. We realise we're parked near an Op Shop and it's open. Good opportunity for me to offload some denim shorts I've replaced (from another Op Shop $5) and have a look see, we discover this shop has an extensive stock of audio books in CD form. Roger has a good time selecting a couple of titles. We now keep wandering and end up at the Bakery - other travellers have mentioned this one as a good one - for a morning smoko break. Roger gets his cappuccino with a Bee Sting and I get a Spiced chai with a Kitchener Bun - I haven't had one of these for years (at least 30 I'd say if not more). It was sooo good. After we've had our morning tea break we continue wandering about the place. Enjoying a lot of the street art and going out on the town's Jetty. Once we've had a look in the main street areas we go back to our ute and van and drive further about Tumby Bay. A lovely neat coastal town. We call in and check out the RV campground on the outskirts of town - it's OK but it's inland, we feel we can find better further along the way we're wanting to head. So off we go.Read more

    Day 34 - Tumby Bay to Port Lincoln

    Beautiful sunrise...from my bed which was toasty warm, there wasn't much enthusiasm from me to go outside into the cold wind.

    Into Port Lincoln Tourist Park right on the foreshore, a lot less wind, still cold but ok. Wayne investigated the Inverter problem and found that something had come adrift inside which shouldn't happen, he tested everything to make sure it wasn't a wiring/battery problem, rang Redarc to discuss and they organised a Auto Electrician in town to inspect it. He immediately deemed it dead. Redarc are sending a new one which we will pick up in Ceduna.

    Next problem was to fix the cupboard, bigger screws will work temporarily until Wayne can do a permanent fix. The Gas bottle people got back to us and were organising a replacement cylinder, so we did another test of the 2 bottles and they both worked. Don't understand how they work sometimes and then they don't, we will test for a few more days to see if there is a pattern.

    Poor Sandy smashed the front of her phone so she has arranged to have fixed tomorrow, lucky they could get a replacement screen so fast. Port Lincoln is a lot bigger than we realised, certainly larger than Whyalla.

    Quick trip into town for some more port, found Father Port which Wayne has been dying to try, definitely warms you up from the inside. Made some plans for the next couple of days, going to the Information Centre for more info.

    Sandy cooked a yummy Chicken dish and I cooked the Salmon Wayne caught, worked well.    Read more

    Ferry to Eyre Peninsula

    Up very early drove to Wallaroo to get ferry to Lucky Bay on Eyre Peninsula- took 2.5 hours but saved a lot of driving. Felt tad queasy on the ferry but not too bad. Drove 1.5 hrs to Tumby Bay ( small coastal fishing place) lots of coloured murals and great silo. Walked around and Phil got some free red gum from workman on the pier - pretty funny. I had my flu shot then set up camp in RV area just out of town $10 a night no power/water but good spot. Read my book then got pizzas ready to cook to watch our 5th son! Go BluesRead more
