The best day ever in Rio! ♥️

    May 3 in Brazil ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Ok so I'm going to just say it.... Yesterday was maybe my favourite day ever that I have experienced on my travels... And I am truly in love with Rio de Janeiro.. it is maybe my favourite place I have ever experienced! This will be a long entry....

I woke up early and left my hostel at 6am to catch a bus to then get picked up for the start of my long tour of all the city's sights... Already at 6am people were at the beach working out and surfing... I loved it! We first got driven to Christ the Redeemer up the mountain... On the drive I further noticed that Rio is the ultimate fit city, everyone is always running, riding or doing something active by the beach or in the city... It's absolutely incredible!
The views from Christ the Redeemer were truly unbelievable and to see the natural scenery of the city was amazing! We spent some time up there and got myself a little selfie with the main man!
Then we visited some other spots including Maracana stadium, Rio Cathedral and the Selaron Steps before going to a buffet lunch... Where I caused serious losses to the buffet's balance 😂 (it was my only food for the day 😬).
We then went to Sugarloaf Mountain and caught the 2 cable cars to the peak and wow... What an experience and what incredible views and stunning natural scenery. In every direction of the city... They also had a DJ there with stunning views over the bay with the mountains and Christ in the background.. it was truly incredible vibes and I stood there for a while taking it all in and really loving it all. The tour guide and I got on well so we enjoyed the DJ together and talked about the Lady Gaga evening that lay ahead ahaha

Then I managed to get all the way home at 6:30pm only to turn around after dropping off my bag and freshening up to meet someone as we chose to go to Lady Gaga together!!! We got a Caipirinha to go and caught an Uber then metro into Copacabana... Already on the metro the energy was electric! Then we hopped out and were stunned... So many people but it all felt so safe! We managed to work our way to the beach to witness the start of her show and wow... Just wow.... There were an estimated 2.5 million people all there dancing, singing and having the best time! Which is a record for the most people to ever witness a female artist and close to double the expectations! It was a sea of people everywhere which you likely have seen on social media or her post! The energy of the people from Rio was unmatched! We had quite a few drinks there and enjoyed it all!! Lady Gaga was really playing to the crowd, even wearing a Brazil outfit which got everyone screaming... Everyone truly is so passionate!! After dancing and singing until 2am on the beach.. we battled the crowds back to the metro which was intense and ended up getting a taxi back home after the metro in the early hours before falling asleep around 5am...
So an insane 24hrs but one of the best ever! I honestly never thought I would love Rio so much but the experience of everything and the city has made me fall in love and I struggle currently to think of a place I like more! 🇧🇷♥️

    Rio de Janeiro

    April 27 in Brazil ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

    Cristo Redentor!

    March 27 in Brazil ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Impossible to come to Rio and not see the Cristo Redentor!
Standing tall at 710 m above sea level, measuring 38 m, it sure is impressive… and very crowed!
Thank goodness we hiked up and down to make it worth it!Read more

    Rio de Janeiro

    March 26 in Brazil ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

    March 25 in Brazil ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

After our ride in the cable car we were greeted by stunning views of Rio de Janeiro from Morro Da Urca, the second summit!
It’s amazing how quickly the clouds move to envelop the top of Pão de Açúcar to then disappear moments later, giving way to stunning and clear sceneries!
We were lucky to see the Cristo popping in and out of the clouds across one of the bays.
We enjoyed a beer and piña colada as well as a local specialty made of tapioca, cheese and molasses while feeling like we were at te top of the world!

    Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (3)

    March 19 in Brazil ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

A visit to Rio would not be complete without a visit to the Christ statue and Ipanema & Copacabana beaches.
    リオを訪れるなら、キリスト像やイパネマビーチ、コパカバーナビーチを訪れなければ、リオを訪れたとは言えません。

    Rio de Janeiro

    March 14 in Brazil ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We left for Myrtle Beach Airport a little before 2pm. Dad was kind enough to drive us. We stopped and picked Kyrie up from school a bit early so I could tell her goodbye. Greg left me a sweet goodbye letter that morning.

All was smooth with getting checked in, the people at MYR have a very good sense of humor. They are always kind and they’ve been having a heck of a time landing planes with all the smoke from the Carolina Forest fires. Our layover in Dallas Fort Worth was very close though with only 45 minutes between the time we were supposed to arrive and takeoff. The flight was uneventful…except for me worrying about our connection.

But then as we exited the plane ready to sprint 3/4 off a mile to the international terminal, BEHOLD! A knight on his people mover tram appeared waiting at our gate, ushered us in after I explained our quandary, and drove our happy butts to our gate with 10 minutes to spare! No trouble, no problems, last group to board. We settled in for our 10 hour flight to GIG, Rio’s international airport. The food sadly was abysmal. But mom handed it off to our other seatmate. She always seems to be sat by the young men who need to eat more.

Arrived in Rio almost an hour before schedule, cleared customs easily, got all our luggage and a taxi (the guy told us it would be $R 90 which he quickly explained was only $16 US) our Air B&B hotelpartment (room in an apartment building uses like a hotel room). The lady in charge was super nice and got us into a room by 10:30 am instead of 3 pm check in time. The room is spacious but sparse but the most important feature works like a champ, the AC.

Mom wasn’t able to rest well so we chilled and snooze until 2ish. That was when things went a bit pear shaped…My mobile internet device (the hockey puck) sent me a message that I’d used all my data for my global day pass. (I have NEVER used all my data in the 8 years I’ve traveled with it!) Then those boogers throttled my connection to a snails’ pace. Cue me freaking out…

Without the ability to access online features like maps, translate and the internet, we are very much hamstrung. I can’t navigate, converse or read anything. Much as I’d like to go out and wander the streets, this definitely ain’t Tokyo. It’s a bummer, but better to be safe. So instead we spent time finding a guided tour for tomorrow before we board the NCL Star between 4:30-5 pm. Currently we are waiting for a meeting time, fingers crossed.

We did venture out a little but got so turned around we didn’t stay out long. Mom got a sandwich and some kind of water. I got Orange Fanta in honor of my daughter.

To be honest, I think we are in for the day. 😢
Both of us are sore and tired and forcing ourselves to eat, so it might be for the best. Neither of us wants to get sick.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have much better photos of Rio!
