    Belchin-Sofia-Kemikovtsi

    July 3, 2024 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

    Shoppen

    May 7 in Bulgaria ⋅ 🌩️ 20 °C

after my Russian lesson which ended at noon, I went for dinner to the skara we i often go to. I asked.Venzi where to find this typical folk shirt and he advised to go to paradise shopping mall. So I took the Metro M2 till the final stop and walked three floors in this shopping centre but they were only boss Nike and so on. So I decided to to take the trim back to the city centre. I left the 10 at journalist Square and had to stop for some minutes as gave a heavy rain shower.

I passed the university of architecture and shortly after there’s a farmers market ‘Saturday Farmers' Market by Hrankoop - Roman Wall’ which might be a good option for hanging out in the evening for dinner because it has one or two nice restaurants some coffee shops and one. easy reachable by Tramway number 10, 15 and 18.

I continued my walk to the city centre and I made a stop at the wine bar to visit of wine. Luckily, I did because there was a very heavy rain shower. I ended up with various glass of wine even the rain stopped before.

I didn’t find the shirt I was looking for so I thought maybe on the spring market I will find one because I saw a shop there but going down to the spring festival most of the shops were closed because of the rain. So went back to the hotel but had to stop at Skara for Rakia and the glass of wine

    Vitosha Park and Golden Bridges

    April 30 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

first, I didn’t want to make this walking through the park, but finally I had some time I decided to do it. First I had to take the Metro and then change to bus. I didn’t check the bus schedule but by then I found out that the bus leaves only every hour and the next bus isn’t 45 minutes. So I had a walk through the mall, which was quite huge. Forgot the name.

The bus took us all the way up to the park at the upper lift station from there. I had a walk to the golden bridge through the park. Was a very beautiful walk and approximately in the middle create great fuse on Sophia. Some parts are very stony very rocky and some parts are easy walk. It’s an easy walk but still somehow challenging because we have to go up and down the mountain, and also the rocks in the mud is a bit challenging. But I would recommend everybody do this walk, who has a spare day.

On the way down, I had a very nice walk through the woods. Sometimes the signs were missing so I had read to guess where to go and Google Maps help me quite a bit. At the end I reached the golden bridges, but had no much time to look around as the next bus home left in 10 minutes in the next afterwards in an hour and 30.

    Kamen Del Peak

    October 31, 2024 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

We decided to get out of the city and get some fresh mountain air in our lungs today. As recommended by Ivor, our graffiti tour guide, we went up to Kamen Del peak in the Vitosha National Park, which looms over the city to the South. After catching a metro to the end of the line, we hopped on the 66 bus, which was reassuringly populated by outdoors types. The next 40 minutes were one of the best bus trips ever, as we climbed the cobbled mountain road, negotiating numerous hairpins through a stunning autumnal forest. When we reached our stop, the terminus at the Hotel Moreni, we hopped off and joined the trail up to the peak. Save the final section, which involved a bit of rock scrambling, it was nothing too arduous - mainly established tracks through heathland, very reminiscent of Scotland. The pictures speak for themselves, but it was absolutely beautiful up there - so quiet and still, with gin-clear skies overhead. When we got to the top, we were rewarded with amazing views of the forested lower slopes and the whole of Sofia spread before us, right the way to the mountain range to the North of the city. After posing for a million billion photos, we made our way back to the Moreni, finding an abandoned chair lift station to explore en route. As we had 30 minutes to spare, we went into the hotel for a well earned coffee in their very swanky bar, then boarded the hourly bus back down into town. I'm pleased to say that when we reached the gnarliest bends, our driver put his phone down and actually used both hands - a true professional!Read more

    We're here...

    October 28, 2024 in Bulgaria ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

...and only an hour late! Half the delay was down to a late departure from Birmingham, and the rest was due to the guy in the row behind me having a bit of a medical emergency somewhere over Serbia. Me, the British anaesthetist and the Bulgarian paediatrician decided between us that, while he wasn't entirely conscious, he'd probably be OK, so told the pilot to crack on to Sofia, which he duly did. Anyway, we're now on the metro on the way into town - more to follow...Read more

Messer einen Tag in Bier eingelegt

    September 20, 2024 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Im Hotel angekommen. Restaurant heute Ruhetag.
Read more

    Day 103: Communist Bulgaria Tour

    April 22, 2024 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Today we opted for a history tour to learn about communism in Bulgaria and how people lived during the Soviet imperialist era. Our guide disclaimed he was born in 1980, but had stories from his family and distinct memories from when Soviet rule collapsed. We toured the various government buildings which were cleaned of their red stars and sickles/hammers as soon as the government was overthrown.

Our favorite stop was the Georgi Dimitrov Mausoleum where they buried their first communist leader and held yearly parades. The mausoleum is no longer standing because the Bulgarian government attempted to blow it up three times but it actually was built as a nuclear bomb shelter and had underground tunnels to the major government buildings. Instead it had to be manually disassembled and took longer to destroy than it was built. There was pain behind this building because at the May 1, 1986 parade, the government leaders couldn’t be found while everyone marched outside; it was 5 days after Chernobyl explosion and they didn’t tell anyone.

Final stop was the largest communist monument in the city that is being torn down right now. Since 1987, many vandalize the monument or write political messages which Russia threatened action against Bulgaria if they didn’t reign in their people. However, Ukraine’s invasion was the final straw and the Bulgarian government decided swiftly to remove the monument in 2022.

    Kirchzartener in Sofia 🤯

    August 23, 2023 in Bulgaria ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Was ein Zufall😱.

Seid gespannt😎😄🤩🌞

    Sofia - Teil 2

    August 11, 2023 in Bulgaria ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Insgesamt also sehr entspannt die letzten Tage verbracht.

    Day 6 recap

    August 27, 2019 in Bulgaria ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

We are starting get the hang of this... Less stress, more km covered (560 today with no highways), more excitement. Crossed from the spectacular and chaotic romania into Bulgaria. Which was a big surprise! Great infrastructure, sensible driving, a landscape that kind of looks like the german eifel region and they even use the same traffic signs. Felt like a return to home... If it werent for those fascinating remains of socialism.

    Today...
We found the heaviest building in the world in Bucharest
We traded our Bible for a little steam train childrens book, which took a nearby box by surprise
Katharina entered a church and immediately pulled out her wallet
    We visited draculas grave
    We crossed into bulgaria
We found an ufo. Unfortunately it was leaking badly
I had to use the high suspension setting the first time. Only two non offroaders dared to go up their, the other guys list their exhaust =) (video has terrible sound)
