    Ottawa-Ivy Lea (vor Kingston)

    Der Parklatz hat sich als guter Übernachtungsort erwiesen. Auch wenn eine gewisse Spezies (männliche hormongesteuerte Teile unserer Gesellschaft), die auf dem Kies Donats drehen ab 23 Uhr ins Bettchen müssen.
    Mit dem Camper fuhren wir nach Downtown Ottawa. Trotz allen Berichten im Internet fanden wir an der Hauptstrasse einen PP für 2 Std. So spazierten wir durch die Hauptstadt und bewunderten die Prunkbauten. Das Parlamentsgebäude könnte auch als Kirche durchgehen.
    Da das Parlamentsgebiet sehr überschaubar war, fuhren wir nach 1,5 Std wieder aus der Stadt in südlicher Richtung nach Kingston. Schliesslich erreichten wir den Sankt Lorenz Fluss, der auch die Grenze zur USA darstellt. Unser Ziel-Stellplatz erwies sich als Niete. So fuhren wir weiter und hatten etwas Mühe einen Stellplatz zu finden. Die Campingplätze waren noch alle geschlossen. Schliesslich fanden wir in einem Hafen einen schönen Platz.    Read more

    Auf nach Mallorytown

    Heute haben wir die Farm hinter uns gelassen und sind auf nach Mallorytown.
    Vorher haben wir natürlich von den Tieren Abschied genommen. Auf dem Weg mussten wir durch Ottawa und über den Ottawa River. Die Highways sind auch ein wahres Abenteuer. Dort übernachten wir auf dem Parkplatz einer Brauerei, welche ausschließlich mit Solarstrom betrieben wird.
    Nach einer Führung und einem Tasting, haben wir uns noch eine Pizza gegönnt und das ein oder andere Bierchen getrunken    Read more

    Thousand Island

    1000 Islands liegt am Ende vom Lake Ontario im St. Lorenz Strom. Eine Insel muss 2 Bäume haben und das ganze Jahr über Wasser liegen, das ergibt dann 997 Inseln. Zählt man die restlichen kleinen Inseln auch dazu, sind es 1864. Der St. Lorenz Strom ist ein Grenz Fluss zwischen den USA und Kanada. Das musste wir 2 am eigenen Leib erfahren. Wir sind schon eine Woche in Kanada und ich habe versehentlich ein schönen Camping Ground am Fluss in den USA gebucht. Zweimal abends über den Zoll in die 🇺🇸 hatte jedes Mal gute 30 Minuten gekostet. Ok, das I-94 Formular war abgelaufen (gilt nur 6 Monate, wusste ich nicht) und ich hätte kein gültiges Visum mehr. Ich konnte es nachweisen, aber sie fanden es nicht im System, das braucht seine Zeit. Nun nach der zweiten Einreise könnte ich ihnen sagen, wie sie es finden, aber jetzt ist es schon fast eine Woche abgelaufen.Read more

    Beau Rivage - part 2

    After visiting several islands we returned to Beau Rivage yesterday. This is our favorite of the four that allow generators and probably our favorite period. Today Dale and Carol joined us on the dock. Luna and Smokey are adapting to not being the only cat on the dock. No swimming for me today but I did get a nice paddle in. James took a quick dip before dinner. Tomorrow we are headed back to Kingston to reprovision and get ready to take on the Trent Severn. We’ve really enjoyed the Thousand Islands. Very few miles logged and lots of fun and relaxation accomplished.Read more

    Camelot Island

    We visited two more islands today. The first (Gordon Island) Moki and I walked the trail while James scrubbed the boat. While we were walking a fawn walked out of the bushes and stopped right in front of us. It would have been a great photo but we were swimming before coming to shore so I didn’t have my phone. Camelot Island has a large dock which is full. Luna is a huge hit on the dock which is good because she has no respect for personal space !Read more

    Gananoque

    Writing Day 131 on day 132 because we went out on the town last night! Had planned to stay on the island but we met some locals who said there was a waterfront concert in Gananoque 2 miles away. So we went over in the afternoon and hung out on the day dock. Gananoque has a really nice boat museum which apparently started out with a high school boat building class. The concert 🎶 is every Friday and Saturday thru summer in a band shell at a park adjacent the day dock. While on the dock we got a visit from the Canadian Border Patrol. He was nice. Checked our passports, asked how our trip was going, and told us to have a great day. Today we’re off to find a new island 🏝️.Read more

    Upper Brewers

    Today we went thru Davis lock (where we spent the night) and then the flight of four locks at Jones Falls. We reached the Summit of the Rideau yesterday so now we’re going down in all the locks. The four Jones locks have a total decent of 70 feet which is quite impressive. After passing thru we tied up long enough for Moki and I to walk up to the Stone Arch Dam. This Dam was constructed between 1831-32 during the Rideau Canal construction to flood a series of rapids and falls. It uses interlocking vertical stones that press against each other and the rock ledge to stay in place. Workers are said to have called it the “Seventh Wonder of the World”. Stone Arch Dam is also known as the Whispering Dam because the arch shape allows sound to travel along its face so that someone speaking at one end and be heard on the other side. We are now one lock south for the night and arrived just as it was getting ready to rain. There was a weather advisory that called for toonie sized hail but most of the heavy rain went to the south of us. This lock has power AND showers. Site is nice too. Lots of grass for Moki and paths for walking. Water very clear with Secchi on bottom in 2.3M.Read more

    Jour 7 : Mille-Iles & Gananoque

    C'est parti pour une petite croisière dans l'archipel des Mille-Iles.
    En fait il y en a 1865, plus exactement, réparties sur 80 km, sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent, et de toutes tailles.
    Pendant la croisière, on peut y voir notamment le château Boldt, construit par ce dernier en cadeau pour sa femme mais qui ne fut jamais achevé suite à son décès. C'est un sacré cadeau quand même ! 😆
    Le territoire des Mille-Iles est partagé entre le Canada et les USA, on y retrouve ainsi le plus petit pont international du monde sur une île dont le propriétaire de la maison n'a qu'à traverser pour passer d'un pays à un autre ! 😅
    Toutes ces îles sont toutes quasiment ornées d'une ou plusieurs maisons toutes aussi jolies les unes que les autres. On s'y verrai bien en vacances ! 🏝
    La journée se termine par une balade dans la petite ville de Gananoque, porte de l'archipel. Lenny y retrouve un toboggan et nous on y admire la beauté et la paisibilité de la ville où l'architecture me fait un peu penser à l'époque victorienne et c'est plutôt chouette ! 😊    Read more

    Bootstour Gananoque Thousand Islands ⛵️

    Thousand Islands sind eine beeindruckende Inselgruppe im Sankt-Lorenz-Strom an der Grenze zwischen den USA und Kanada. Über 1.800 Inseln erstrecken sich in dieser Region, die für ihre malerischen Landschaften und idyllischen Wasserwege bekannt ist. Viele dieser Inseln beherbergen Häuser und Ferienvillen. Jede noch so kleine Insel findet hier Platz für ein Häuschen.
    Die Anwesen reichen von rustikalen Cottages bis hin zu luxuriösen Herrenhäusern, oft mit atemberaubendem Blick auf das Wasser und direktem Zugang zum See. Viele sind historische Bauwerke und strahlen eine zeitlose Eleganz aus, während sie perfekt in die natürliche Schönheit der Region integriert sind.    Read more

    Georgina Island

    Today we are over at Georgina at the recommendation of some of the folks we met yesterday. There’s strong current here and the water is super clear. This area is locally known as the aquarium. Our destination was somewhere between Georgia and Constance islands. As we arrived and were tooling around looking to see where we might want to dock or anchor we spotted a C-Dory on a park dock with an open spot behind so of course we docked there! Dale and Carol on See-Ya are making their way thru the 1000 Island and will also be doing the Trent. We enjoyed docktails with them this evening. I forgot to take a picture 🤦🏼‍♀️.Read more
