Day 55 - Lima - Santiago - Punto Arenas

A long day of travelling today. Started off early with a 9am flight from Lima to Santiago, was surprised to see a big transatlantic plane for this trip because it wasn’t that long but it was ideal, had proper tvs and food served so the journey went quick. Was full sure the backpack was going to go missing because I got a different answer from every attendant I asked whether it was being let off in Santiago or going to the end destination. Anyway said I’d be cautious and go to baggage collection in Santiago and there it was.
Had a 4 hour layover in Santiago but it flew, such a big airport as well. Went for a walk in the domestic terminal 1 and I think from one end to the other was about 1.2km. Flight down was turbulent enough at times but not as turbulent as the night ahead😅
I got to the hostel around midnight and it didn’t look to hectic from the outside, I didn’t want anything fancy because I was only going to be there to sleep for a few hours and I picked one within walking distance to the bus station. I was in a dorm room on my own so I thought it was ideal. Woke about 4:30 to a girl in the hallway saying someone is after taking my bag and there was commotion in the hall, so I went out. Anyway about a half an hour before that I noticed someone come into my room into one of the beds across the way I turned over when I heard them and didn’t they pretend to lie down and go to sleep. So after going out to the hall when I heard all the noise I said I better check my stuff, cash gone out of my wallet but passport and laptop and the rest all still there. Someone came in and robbed the place, pretended to sleep in the bed opposite me etc. Was lucky I only had roughly €90 in the wallet. The owner was a very nice fella to be fair and gave the cash back himself and gave me breakfast.
I actually made money out of the robbery, they took 88,000 pesos and I got 90,000 back and breakfast🤑En savoir plus
