    London Calling!

    May 9 in England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

    We have arrived!
After circling Heathrow a few times to find the hire car return…it’s all worth it when you hear the screech of the train 🚆 arriving at the station and that so familiar & longed for smell of the diesel of the Underground.

After a folly through the many levels of Harrods where Mark did his biggest purchases to date we headed to Westminster Station and took that obligatory Exit 4: Ah! There she was: The Elizabeth Tower. As soon as I see Big Ben it feels like ‘home’. Photos from all angles and a walk down past Parliament to Trafalgar Square and Embankment sealed the deal.

Had a couple of drinks at Retro Bar then decided to head back to the hotel to freshen up before heading out again to get late dinner. The hotel for tonight is W14 in West Kensington: very basic & lugging heavy bags up 3 levels is definitely not something I’d recommend. It is what it is! Focus on the good 😊

I’m back in London and that’s all that matters to me now, and, with only a week to enjoy… you can bet I’ll do the best I can! 🙏

It was lovely to catch up with Marta tonight. We met at the front of the Empire Cinema where we worked together almost 30 years ago now… Found somewhere to eat and Marta surprised both of us with some lovely gifts: Biscotti from Burano and a very special new knitted Queen Elizabeth & Prince Phillip ❤️🤍💙

Now Midnight 🕛 Exhausted 😴 but content 🇬🇧

    Obrigado Deus!

    May 7 in England ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

Today is Wednesday. I’m starting this post in London waiting for our flight to Lisbon. It has been 14 hours since we left to LAX. Our flight was uneventful. Got to watch a couple of good movies. I’m looking forward to landing in Lisbon. We’ve never been and are excited to start our explorations.

Our flight out of London just got delayed. A lady sitting next to me named Kathy just told us she has been traveling for 48 hours, her husband lost his phone in security, and this has been the worse experience ever! This opened a door for me to be a friend, encourage her, and that offered an opportunity to pray for her and with her!

The pilgrimage has begun. I’m grateful to God for people like Kathy who have been divinely placed in my path. Can’t wait to see who else comes along.

We finally made it to Lisbon - It was about 20 hours of travel not counting my two hour drive to LA.

After roaming the city center we happened upon a great local restaurant with fado music! Food was amazing, musicians were great! Thanking God for a great first day!

    London (Leg 1)

    April 30 in England ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Our first leg of the trip in England was in London. London was so warm! We went to Kensington gardens and Kensington Palace. There were so many cute swans and birds, and Diana's gardens were especially pretty. We then rented a bike and biked to Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park. We made our way through St James Park and got ice cream! Then we walked back to Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, where we went to visit the M&M store (home of the Maggie-Mae) the night before. There was a protest for May Day happening in Trafalgar Square where we saw a marching band playing which was very fun! On our way to the train station, we crossed the water and saw Big Ben and the London Eye.Read more

Our Maids of Honour & Ted Lasso ⚽️

    May 14 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The Maids of Honour Tart has been part of Richmond history for nearly 500 years. It is believed that Henry VIII was the first to use its name when he met Ann Boleyn and other Maids Of Honour at his Royal Household of Richmond Palace eating the cakes from a silver dish.

Tasting one for himself, the King was so delighted by its ‘melt-in-the-mouth’ sensation that he confiscated the recipe and demanded it be kept secret in a locked iron box at Richmond Palace. Essentially, it’s a Portuguese Tart and we had all tasted better…

Guess What? We had another High Tea. The food included freshly made sandwiches with delicious fillings, homemade bacon, tomato and salmon quiche, yummy sausage rolls & fluffy scone, jam & cream. I’m pretty sure that’s the final High Tea for me for a while! Might need a gluten free diet when i return home after all the cake and bread.

We farewelled Marta, flying home to Italy 🇮🇹 tonight. Another happy London holiday done good 🇬🇧 ✅

Time for a bit of a whinge: Just for the record, a coffee costs $8-$9 here and mostly tastes like hot water! Ive had my last one of those too.
And London, with climate change it might be time to pump some air conditioning into the PT network! Just saying! 😉 and the traffic 🚦 congestion is next level! I’ve probably noticed it more due to using more buses than usual.

Anyway, back to Richmond which is also famous for Ted Lasso! Yes, BELIEVE it! We took a wander into town and saw The Prince’s Head Pub: Known as the Crown & Anchor in the show. It’s right next to Richmond Green which also features prominently in the series ⚽️ 🥅

    Natural History Museum

    May 13 in England ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

A remarkably large flaked hand axe was in the rotating display, very nice surprise. Also learned a lot about camels I did not know. Did you know they can drink 135 liters of water in 15m?? The giant sequoia tree was also insane. Finally there were some massive Diamonds in a room called "The Vault" their cool rock collection was truely astonishing and just ao big. Great day at the museum.Read more

    Wednesday in London

    May 11 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Back to the big bus tour guides for a few walking tours!
We did the Buckingham palace/changing of the guard, got to see lots and our tour guide was full of knowledge!
We then grabbed some quick lunch, went for a walk over Tower Bridge and then went to Jack the Ripper walking tour which was creepy to hear about all “he” did and how they never found out who it was! Then we went back to Trafalgar Square where we saw a great busker and went to dinner at a pub called Waxy O’Connor’s! Recommended from an English colleague! Had some drinks at a cocktail bar and found some live music to finish off the night! Dancing on the chairs was encouraged!! It was lots of fun!!Read more

Kensington Palace & Home for the week!

    May 10 in England ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

This morning we went to Kensington Palace to the Dress Codes exhibition.
Wills & Kate and the kids were, unfortunately, not available to take tea 🫖 but Kate made a reservation for us at her favourite place: The Veranda at The Goring Hotel tomorrow! 😉

You can see from the pictures that we saw Elizabeth and Margaret’s’ matching dresses they wore after VE day was announced. We saw dresses from Princess Diana as well as Princess Margaret and Queen Victoria. Apparently Old Victoria was a trend setter! Who’d have thought Black was the 1880’s ‘in thing’ ✊🏻 It was okay but not patch on the Diana dresses’ 👗 exhibition that I saw a few years back. We also did the tour of the rest of the Palace as well, including Diana’s Sunken Garden 🪴 We also dropped into Cafe Diana across the road from the Palace. Diana used to pop in there occasionally and the walls are full of beautiful photographs of her, one being signed by her.

After that we were finally able to unpack in our new home for the week in Battersea Park. It is a really lovely apartment. It is owned by an interior designer and he has done a beautiful job. The only downside is another three levels of stairs to climb! There were three levels of stairs last night and bringing luggage down this morning was so exhausting 😩 I’ve gotta tell you, the shine has gone off carrying heavy bags up and down stairwells in hotels, apartments and Tube Stations. My back is really telling me not to do it any more! It will be nice to just settle in one place for a week.

Un dernier musée avant de partir

    May 1 in England ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

🦖🐋Read more
