    888

    April 19 in England ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

I dropped off Kim, Deb, and Nikki at the airport before 6am this morning. They are continuing on to Northern Ireland, and I’m headed home. I only made one wrong turn without an additional navigator but got the rental car returned. The car rental guy inspected the left side of the car very closely, including the hubcaps and tires. Luckily, I haven’t hit a curb since the second day, and I managed to return it without any dents or scratches. After looking at the mileage, he found it auspicious that I had driven exactly 888 miles in two weeks. I don’t know that I’m lucky, but I am exhausted from having to pay close attention for 888 miles.

Once I was approved to leave the rental return, I caught the tram out to the airport and flew to London. I took a bus from the airport to the underground. It was nice not to be driving, so I could enjoy the scenery. We drove by “Jack the Chipper” and I was sad that I didn’t know about that restaurant until now. While I waited for the subway, a group of about 10 young men, mid-twenties, walked up to the platform. They were fully decked out in Harry Potter outfits. Each one was a different character, with wigs and garb to perfection. There was even a Hermione with skirt, wig, and nicely trimmed beard. He looked happy to have drawn that straw. My favorite, though, was Dobby. The guy was bald and had huge ears glued to his head. At first I thought it might be a tour, but it wasn’t a tour vibe. I wanted to ask if there was a party at Hogwarts, but they didn’t make eye contact. I hope they enjoyed their Saturday night and wherever they were going.

I rolled in to my hotel at Heathrow around 7pm. Unbelievably, it took me about as long to get from Edinburgh to here as my flight home tomorrow. I spent the evening packing and prepping for the long trip home.

    Tardis 💙

    April 14 in England ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

    Heading home

    March 23 in England ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

We stayed at a Stuttgart Airport Hotel so we could have a stress free travel morning on Sunday. We returned the rental car Saturday night. The drive from Munich to Stuttgart had some drama because there was a huge accident on A8 - the Autobahn road we should have taken all the way to the airport.
We opted for the re-route ,but it took us on some back roads... again. This time, however, it was already dark- which led to some extra challenges. One road was so narrow, we knew there was not enough room for 2 cars to pass. Just as we said that, a big truck came through. It was by God's mercy that we were not side-swiped because on the right-hand side of the road, there was fencing and curbing, and the left -hand had the large truck!
I should also note that the Friday before we left, Heathrow Airport experienced an electrical fire that shut down the entire airport. Our flights are on schedule today, but there are a lot of people in the airport because their flights have been rescheduled.

    Nostalgic times

    February 17 in England ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

Boardgames yesterday afternoon, and walks down memory lane today...

Grew up in an area with ancient woodland just down the road. Burnham Beeches was the location of many a fun time as a kid - riding bikes, climbing trees, generally being tykes and having fun in nature. I have so many amazingly positive memories of that place (plus a few less nice memories...school cross country, for example!)

Dropped into the eco cafe there for a bite to eat and caught up with my friend Saf, who I've known since we were at primary school. Had a lovely walk with my brother and niece (and her bestie with Hope, the dog)...took some photos including some impromptu street photography from the car on the way home as we drove through Slough.

Now I'm just relaxing in the warm with tea and biccies 😍

    Several days of very little...

    February 13 in England ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Typically have developed some sort of head cold and haven't been feeling 100%.

Taking it easy to make sure I'm well enough to spend time with my niece on her half term which starts tomorrow.

She was very kind and loaned me one of her plushies to keep me company in bed 🥰Read more

    Sounds, company and sloe gin

    February 10 in England ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

An afternoon and evening spent in the welcome company of a very old friend who I get to see far too seldom (last time was over 12 years ago!).

With some people, time is immaterial...

Passed the afternoon listening to vinyl and chatting. Takeaway curry for dinner. Left there and walked to another friend nearby who'd offered me their spare bed for the night.

Arrived and was immediately welcomed with a selection of homemade flavoured gins and more wonderful company!

    Love these people 💕

    Hello my deer...

    February 8 in England ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Nice night out at the pub yesterday with friends and fam.

Weather is grey and wet - trying to dry out my boots after my brother and I left them outside in the rain 🙄

Greeted by a deer in the back garden this morning 😍Read more

    Our plane

    December 23, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 41 °F

... but we're not on it. Delayed out of Dublin, and missed an already tight connection. It was closed by the time we got through the flight connections center. We're rebooked onto a flight in about 4 hours.

Trystan had his pudding checked again, and James his spork. Removing any last second chance of catching the first flight. Really hoping this Christmas Pudding tastes good 😂

They're clearly on the watchout for weaponized Christmas Puddings this year.

    First things first: United Kingdom

    December 10, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Ein guter Anfang für die Fortsetzung des "good to know with Sarah".
Freut Ihr euch genauso darauf wie ich mich freue??? 🤓

    Schloss Windsor

    November 14, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Read more
