Packed up and sitting at the top of the mountain one last time before we head down.

Out of all 37 hot chocolates I've had this trip, this is possibly the most decadent 😂

Finishing off with a 2 hour bus drive to Geneva, short flight to Paris and then we head home on our buckets with seat belts and an old iPod for inflight entertainment 👍Read more

Snowboard 2025 comes to an end!!

There is a curse that comes after someone says "last run", everything could been going splendidly and the second someone says the magic words all hell breaks loose....NOT THIS TIME!! No one said the words and everyone made it to the end safely 😂 no torn rotator cuffs or dislocated elbows! 🥳

The last two days of snowboarding have been amazing. Yesterday was the best day of snowboarding I've ever had and was very quickly topped by today.

It's hard to describe the sound of groomed snow under the board - very scratchy and creaky, but the second that board hits the soft snow everything goes quite and all you hear is the wind. The vibration in your boots and bindings stops, the fear of catching a edge disappears and you just glide across the mountain.

Day 1 of boarding comes to an end, very successful day on the slopes - no one was hurt, new boots and bindings work like a charm and now I have a beer in hand!

Settled in!

Okay, bus trip complete, keys acquired and room located!

I take back everything I said about the bus, for some reason they gave us a driver who could honestly rival Pierre Gasly (also French), every corner was taken at Mach 3, on a road that was really only designed for one car yet somehow everyone decided they could squeeze two on😂

It was a bit of a mission to get the keys and find our apartment but as usual.....the view is stunning. No complaints.

And we were pleasntly surprised about the amount of snow once we made it to the top! We were a bit worried by the lack of white and the extensive amount of green grass everywhere 😂

SAVOYEN - auf dem Weg nach Iberien

Am Mittwoch, 9.10.2024 um 1200 haben wir mit unserer SeaBridge-Gruppe in Barcelona abgemacht. Unser Ziel: Umrundung der Iberischen Halbinsel im Uhrzeigersinn.

Heute war ein weiter Weg: Autobahn bis Monthey, dann ab in die Westalpen und über die Grenze nach Frankreich. Über Chatel und Abondance erreichen wir unser Zwischenziel Samoens mitten in SAVOYEN: Schweizerflagge in rechteckig mit grossem Kreuz?
Nicht ganz! Aber spontan kommt uns die an Stammtischen immer wieder leicht scherzhaft diskutierte "Grossschweiz" (CH +Bayern +Vorarlberg +Savoyen +Elsass ...+Sardinien!) in den Sinn: Die Neue Zürcher Zeitung widmete der Großschweiz jüngst eine ganze Seite und rechnete vor: Inklusive aller angeblich beitrittswilligen (!?) Nachbarregionen entstünde ein europäischer Zentrumsstaat mit 40 Millionen Einwohnern. Wir wären größer als die meisten europäischen Staaten und hätten unsere private Mittelmeerinsel. Unser Minderwertigkeitskomplex gegenüber Deutschland, Frankreich und Italien wäre geheilt!

Also: Savoyen ist wirklich schön mit den vielen Pässen und Ski-Orten und den vielen Kuhweiden. Das würde aus unserer Sicht mit CH++ in Ordnung gehen.

Wir finden in Samoens einen passenden Campingplatz und sind fast alleine. Den tiefen Temperaturen entsprechend geniessen wir das Fondue in der nahegelegenen Beiz ...und den Absacker im warmen (Truma) Auto.Read more

Sind nun auf der Route des Grandes Alpes angekommen. Ab jetzt wird's kurvig. Sind auf einem kleinen Camping Minicipal. Erst mal ausruhen. Hunger hatten wir auch schon! I hiked to the end of the world!

We had the immense delight of spending some time in the French Alps hamlet of Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval today, and then hiking the End of the World trail near the Cirque du Fer a Cheval. What a magnificent place to hike, with numerous waterfalls all around. The trail ended with a steep climb to the base of a line of mountain ridges that form the border between France and Switzerland. The cirque is part of the Sixt-Passy National Nature Preserve and was a wonderful place to enjoy a simple lunch of cheese, baguette and apples. A long stretch of warm weather delayed the arrival of fall-like temps, so the mostly deciduous forests in these mountains - so different than Colorado’s mountains of predominantly coniferous forests - are just showing a hint of color. Today was really the first day since arriving in Europe a month ago that felt like fall - which is one of my top four favorite seasons.Read more

Now these are the Alps I’ve always heard about. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe at 4809 meters (15,778 feet), is an impressive mountain. We are visiting friends who live in the very picturesque - and pleasantly uncrowded right now - mountain town of Samoens. They took us on a hike to a place with a spectacular 360 degree mountain view for the sunset, with snowy Mont Blanc as the highlight.Read more

Oh my god. 2100metres, climbed to the summit after last lift up & sat in the sun atop the Swiss alps above the clouds! Avalanche warning 4/5 but had to be done. Then we shredded all the way down... Kaz smoked it, first day on the pow pow epic!Read more
