Packed up and sitting at the top of the mountain one last time before we head down.

Out of all 37 hot chocolates I've had this trip, this is possibly the most decadent 😂

Finishing off with a 2 hour bus drive to Geneva, short flight to Paris and then we head home on our buckets with seat belts and an old iPod for inflight entertainment 👍Read more

Snowboard 2025 comes to an end!!

There is a curse that comes after someone says "last run", everything could been going splendidly and the second someone says the magic words all hell breaks loose....NOT THIS TIME!! No one said the words and everyone made it to the end safely 😂 no torn rotator cuffs or dislocated elbows! 🥳

The last two days of snowboarding have been amazing. Yesterday was the best day of snowboarding I've ever had and was very quickly topped by today.

It's hard to describe the sound of groomed snow under the board - very scratchy and creaky, but the second that board hits the soft snow everything goes quite and all you hear is the wind. The vibration in your boots and bindings stops, the fear of catching a edge disappears and you just glide across the mountain.

I've got a few pics of us up and about the mountain but I wasn't brave enough to hold my phone and video while gliding over a cloud 😁Read more

Day 1 of boarding comes to an end, very successful day on the slopes - no one was hurt, new boots and bindings work like a charm and now I have a beer in hand!

Okay, bus trip complete, keys acquired and room located!

I take back everything I said about the bus, for some reason they gave us a driver who could honestly rival Pierre Gasly (also French), every corner was taken at Mach 3, on a road that was really only designed for one car yet somehow everyone decided they could squeeze two on😂

It was a bit of a mission to get the keys and find our apartment but as usual.....the view is stunning. No complaints.

And we were pleasntly surprised about the amount of snow once we made it to the top! We were a bit worried by the lack of white and the extensive amount of green grass everywhere 😂

Au revoir RdGA!

Heute fahren wir unsere letzte Etappe auf der wirklich aufregenden und abwechslungsreichen RdGA! Es geht von Beaufort (wirklich ein süsses Örtchen) in Richtung Norden bis nach Thonon-Bains am Genfersee.

Bevor wir die letzten 150 km unter die Räder nehmen, machen wir einen Abstecher auf den Col du Joly. Hin und zurück nur 30 km, aber sie werden mit zu den schönsten km der ganzen Tour werden. Der Pass ist nur von einer Seite öffentlich befahrbar. Wir bewundern die tolle Aussicht auf Berge und Stausee und fahren auf der gleichen wunderschönen Strecke wieder zurück.

Zurück auf der RdGA, geht es auf den Col des Saisies und den Aravis. Diesen hatten wir schon auf der Hinfahrt befahren. Kurze Kaffeepause und weiter zum Col de la Colombière und dem allerletzten Pass, dem Col des Gets. Es wird langsam flacher und gegen 15:00 Uhr kommen wir am Ziel in Thonon-les-Bain am Kilometer 0 der RdGA an. Hinter uns liegen etwa 700 km knapp 20 Pässe, mehrere über 2‘500 Meter hoch!

Jetzt noch unser Hotel etwas ausserhalb der Stadt beziehen und den Abend geniessen! Wir werden erst morgen - auch abhängig vom Wetter - entscheiden, wie wir nach Hause fahren. Leider steht, das „ob“ schon fest!

Nach diesen Eindrücken fällt es uns schwer, Abschied zu nehmen. Zweieinhalb Wochen ohne ☔️, stattdessen viel 🌞 und Hammerrouten! 📈📉Read more

Auf der Raststätte Alsbach trafen wir Rainer um dann zusammen nach Basel und weiter über kleinste Landstraßen in der Schweiz an den Genfer See bis nach Thonon les Bains zu fahren. Sind nun auf der Route des Grandes Alpes angekommen. Ab jetzt wird's kurvig. Sind auf einem kleinen Camping Minicipal. Erst mal ausruhen. Hunger hatten wir auch schon! I hiked to the end of the world!

We had the immense delight of spending some time in the French Alps hamlet of Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval today, and then hiking the End of the World trail near the Cirque du Fer a Cheval. What a magnificent place to hike, with numerous waterfalls all around. The trail ended with a steep climb to the base of a line of mountain ridges that form the border between France and Switzerland. The cirque is part of the Sixt-Passy National Nature Preserve and was a wonderful place to enjoy a simple lunch of cheese, baguette and apples. A long stretch of warm weather delayed the arrival of fall-like temps, so the mostly deciduous forests in these mountains - so different than Colorado’s mountains of predominantly coniferous forests - are just showing a hint of color. Today was really the first day since arriving in Europe a month ago that felt like fall - which is one of my top four favorite seasons.Read more

Now these are the Alps I’ve always heard about. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe at 4809 meters (15,778 feet), is an impressive mountain. We are visiting friends who live in the very picturesque - and pleasantly uncrowded right now - mountain town of Samoens. They took us on a hike to a place with a spectacular 360 degree mountain view for the sunset, with snowy Mont Blanc as the highlight.Read more

Nice trip over on ferry. Very hot at 34 degrees.
Pierre-Yves and Claudia very kindly gave us some beautiful wine to carry. Unfortunately we decided weight was an issue so we had to drink tonight.
Also got a haircut to keep Duncan happy.
Big hills ahead so Allen might power ahead. Time is starting to feel precious.Read more
