Paris 10 Grad, Regen…die Frisur sitzt

    Yesterday in France ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

    Wiedersehen in Paris

    May 20 in France ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

    Louve Museum, Paris

    May 18 in France ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today we travelled in by train to Rue de Bac, a street located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. It is known for its numerous food shops, cafes, and restaurants. We only stopped to try (and share) a small chocolate mousse from Chapon Chocolate Mousse Bar. They have a number of varieties available - from sweet to a dark chocolate flavour. Yum!
We then moved on to sorbets as we found a shop that had Framboise & Rose flavour and Passion flavour (passionfruit). They were good, but certainly not as good as the sorbets from Berthillon. We are experts now!
And then we walked, and walked, and walked to the Louvre.
I had booked the tickets months ago, as we didn't want to miss out on seeing the Napoleon lll Apartments. (Apparently, there were a number of Napoleon's!) It reminded me of some if the rooms at Versaille. Opulent!
There was also a small display of haute couture from some of the big fashion houses at the Louvre.
And then it was time to head on back to our apartment after dinner. We stumbled across a few more things to see, including the Chatelet Column Statue of an Angel with Two Crowns.
Now, it is time to repack the suitcase and get ready to travel to Germany. I will also be farewelling my cousin, Kirsten, who will return to Edinburgh tomorrow night. It has been good to get to know my cousin a bit more.
Tomorrow, I will travel via Brussells-Midi (on Eurostar) and arrive at Siegburg-Bonn (Deutsche Bahn) to stay with Ellen, Ilia and their two little girls for a few days. Ellen lived with Kelvin and me when she was backpacking in Australia.
Today, I clocked up 19,000+ steps. My feet definitely need a rest now!

    Paris Catacombs

    May 15 in France ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

With the remains of over 1 million people, the catacombs are a vast network of tunnels 20 meters below ground. Built in the late 1700s to create a burial area for the city. Some parts were filled with quarry waste to stop sinkholes from appearing.Read more

Montmartre Walking Tour - Metro Blanche

    May 15 in France ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Another day....another walking tour. This time, it was in Montmartre, the 18th Arrondissement of Paris. Starbucks at Metro Blanche was the meeting point. It was directly opposite Moulin Rouge. There were lots of steps and hill climbs today. We learnt about artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Dali and Monet and the lives they lived in Montmartre.
We visited Paris' last remaining windmill and saw the often photographed restaurant called La Maison Rose. The tragic story of Dalida, a famous international Italian-French actor and singer was told by our tour guide. We passed her home and many fans still go to pay tribute to her in Place Dalida where a bronze bust is located.
Finally, we went to Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre. From this vantage point, we could also see the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
After a late lunch at another Kozy Cafe, we hopped on the metro and found E. Delhillerin, Julia Child's favourite cooking store in Paris. We then located Bus 72, passing by the Bourse if Commerce building and took a tour of the city. This is the cheap way to do things! We passed a number of Paris landmarks including the Louvre (we are going there on Sunday), a much closer view of the Eiffel Tower, and the flame of Liberty at the Pont Alma bridge (where Princess Diana was killed in a car accident).
Then it was back onto the RER and Metro lines to get home to our little apartment.
So, that is a wrap for today!

    La Baguette

    May 13 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Da sind wir nun also in Frankreich: zwei hochqualifizierte, temporär beschäftigungsbefreite Damen, die beschlossen haben, das Schicksal selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Und was macht man jetzt? Read more

    Paris by Potts

    May 10 in France ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Went to notre dame today and got to go to mass. It was an unexpected surprise but it was very cool. We even got to take communion

The service was in French and made me think about all the times in the Bible where the deciples or the crowd dis not understand Jesus. I knew they were talking about the lord but I did not understand the words or the message. That was why he talked in parables. So that those of us that may understand can see via a story.

We then slowly walked around d the city and ended up in monmarte

We go to st Jean tomorrow which is the starting point of our great walk

    Château Versailles

    April 25 in France ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

We went to see French royalty, and (more importantly) the inspiration for Sci Formal CXXII. There is so much gold everywhere, and the inside had so much Louis XIV (he loves paintings of himself). The gardens were magnificent and we loved the funky trees and the tulips. The hedge mazes were very Triwizard Tournament-escRead more

    Paris France

    April 22 in France ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Reflecting back on our 1 1/2 days in Paris, France..
We arrived 4/21/2025 at Charles de GaulleAirport (CDG). We met up with our friends Lou and Tawna, which, Mark and I met on a Miami Dolphin cruise two years ago, they have done the Camino two times. Along with them is their friend Tom, all from California..
We got to our hotel around 4 pm. Went next door to the hotel and got lunch, I got a delicious salad.. then off to the Eiffel Tower, the only tickets we could get was at 10 o’clock that night, and the elevator tickets were sold out, so we walked to the second level (equivalent to 35 stories). We had pizza at a little Italian restaurant, delicious!!
Second day was pouring rain, it was then I realized I left all my rain gear, beanie hat and gloves at the airport.. I had all my rain gear in a separate bag which I had cinched on top of my backpack.. as Tanya and I were waiting on the group from California, I decided to do a minor re-sort my back pack and my cinch strap buckle broke, I thought no big deal, I’ll just pick up another strap in Paris, and carry the rain gear bag (it had a handle). Well, that bag never made it out of the airport, I guess I left it on the bench in the airport…. Tanya saved the day, I borrowed her extra pinch until I could replace all my rain gear… on with our day.. First we had breakfast and a French croissant, i can’t put in words how delicious that croissant was!! Off the Notre Dame, the rain continued as we waited in the long line, it was beautiful and very touching, as a lot of people were paying homage to the Pope… We then made our way to the Basilica.. a few cafes for coffee or a cocktail in between..we topped the night off with a boat ride on the Seine river..

We are leaving Paris this morning.. 4/24/2025, on a bullet train going to St Jean Pied Port (SJPP), this is where we start our walk..
I want to mention Christina, who is a friend of Lou and Tawna.. she is from Arizona, and a young lady who is traveling around Europe..Through her travels she has learned to navigate the complex metro system, which in return helped us so much, we would have spent several waisted hours trying to figure out, and spent $$$$ on taxi’s and Ubers..
