    Geocachen

    Schon oft habe ich vom Cachen geschrieben. Vielleicht weiß nicht jeder was wir da treiben, deshalb jetzt mal eine kleine Erklärung.
    Irgendjemand versteckt einen Behälter, der ein Logbuch enthält, ihrgend wo auf der Welt und meldet diesen sogenannten Geocache auf www.geocaching.com an.
    Nun kann sich jeder interessierte Geocacher die Beschreibung des Caches und die Koordinaten aus dem Internet herunterladen und mit seinem GPS Navigationsgerät oder Smartphone, mit einer entsprechenden Geocaching App, auf die Suche machen. Hat man die Dose gefunden, trägt man sich in das Logbuch, welches sich im Behälter befindet, ein. Zusätzlich sollte man seinen Fund auch in der Logliste des entsprechenden Geocaches auf www. geocaching.com dokumentieren. Das nennt man loggen.
    So rennen wir also im Wald herum, immer auf der Suche nach versteckten " Schätzen".    Read more

    Day 159

    Gestrandet an der Wertach

    Da sich die Coronakriese noch weiter zugespitzt hat und wir unsicher sind, ob das Reisen im WoMo in Deutschland auch eingestellt werden soll, sind wir auf einem Stellplatz in Marktoberdorf stehen geblieben. Hier werden wir mit Strom und Wasser versorgt und können auch entsorgen. Zumindest war das bis gestern so. Dann wurde das Wasser wegen Kälteeinbruch abgestellt.😏 Mal schauen wo wir jetzt Frischwasser bekommen. Die Gegend ist sehr schön. Man kann super spazieren gehen.

    Flucht nach Deutschland

    Hurra, nach 4 Tagen Autobahn sind wir gesund in der Heimat angekommen. Es war eine ganz schöne Tortur. Zum Glück kamen wir aber super gut voran, denn die Straßen waren wie leergefegt. Abends haben wir uns dann zum Entspannen einen ruhigen Stellplatz in der Nähe der Autobahn gesucht. Über die Grenzen ging es problemlos. In Österreich mußten wir schriftlich erklären im Land nicht anzuhalten und an der Deutschen Grenze gab es ein Schild " Reisen sie aus einem Kriesengebiet ein, halten sie 14 Tage Quarantäne." Ok, machen wir jetzt. Geplant ist eine Allgäuer Rundreise mit überwiegendem Aufenthalt im Wald.🌳🌳🌳Read more

    Day 4

    Lieber Weiher als Neuschwanstein

    April 20 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

    Aufgewacht an einem Ort, wo Yaks in Freiheit leben und der Sohn Jäger ist, der Vater aber nicht und der Vater trotzdem den BGS seines Sohnes am Morgen mit aufs Feld nimmt. It looks to be perfect.

    Ein BGS ist übrigens ein Bayrischer Gebirgsschweisshund. Schweiss ist in der Jägersprache Blut und der Hund wird für die Nachsuche von verletztem Wild eingesetzt. 🙏🏼

    Für heute haben wir KEINEN Plan. Nix niente, nada. Langsam Richtung Ostschweiz aber langsam bitte - das ist unsere einzige Devise.

    Erste Etappe ist die Umgebung des Stellplatzes. Nochmals an den Bach 💦 und die Morgensonne ☀️ geniessen.

    Zweite Etappe: Walchensee. Aber hallo. Das ist sooo heiliger Bimmbamm hier. Der tiefste Alpensee Deutschlands. Herrlich, schön, einmalig, sehenswert.

    Dritte Etappe: Garmisch Patenkirchen: Die Zugspitze und die Sprungschanze dominieren den Ort und heute auch noch die Touristen. Also weiterfahren. 💨

    Vierte - ungewollte Etappe: Neuschwanstein. Eigentlich wollten wir einfach daran vorbeifahren. Denn mit Hunden kann man es eh nicht besichtigen. ABER. Da war nix mit ‚Crossing the Topspot‘. Voll ist nur der Vorname. Warum tun sich die Menschen das an? 🤦🏻‍♀️ Die stehen allesamt Stunden an, um rein zu kommen.

    Wir machen einen Zacki-U-Turn und peilen Etappe Fünf an: Unseren Rastplatz. Direkt am Schwarzenberger Weiher. Idylle und Ruhe empfangen uns mit grossen Armen. ✌🏻

    Peter hat in seinem Wädli eine gewaltige Zerrung und deshalb gehe ich alleine mit den Wuffis los. Direkt am Weiher ist ein grosser Wald 🌲 🌲 🌲 Wald hat es hier in Deutschland in rauhen Mengen. Unfassbar viel. Aus diesem Grund muss ich immer neue Wälder entdecken und ich werde nicht enttäuscht. Eine schöne, abwechslungsreiche Runde liegt vor mir.

    Seit ich in der Jagdausbildung bin, schaue ich den Wald anders an. Zuerst durchlaufen wir typisches Rehgebiet. Der Wind bläst in unsere Richtung, also wäre unsere Chance für einen Anblick sehr gut.

    Tatsächlich raschelt es im Laub 🍂 und etwas springt weg von uns. Eddie ist verwirrt, schaut mich an, ich zurück und wir beide sind verwirrt.

    Weiter geht‘s und wir sind inmitten eines typischen Lebensraums für das Auerhuhn. Schnell checke ich noch die Höhenmeter: Passt! Und dann passiert es. Obwohl ich es kaum glauben kann, ich höre es definitiv. Das unverkennbare Lauten des Auerhahns. Mein Herz zerplatzt fast vor Glück. 🍀 Jetzt aber ganz schnell und ganz leise weg, denn das Auerhuhn ist sehr störungsempfindlich.

    Wir laufen den Weg Richtung Stellplatz. Hier muss es viel Wild geben, denn auch hier werden Weisstannen vor Verbiss geschützt.

    Der Rest des Weges ist in kleinen Schönheiten zu finden und der Abend am Weiher ist ein Traum.

    Wir sehen wunderschöne Graugänse, 🪿 eine Familie mit 7 Kücken, Stockenten, 🦆 Blässhühner und Fische, die Saltos schlagen. Ich liebe es. Bei einer Ente waren wir dann ziemlich ratlos. Nebst Chati kam auch ein Wildhüter in den Genuss - es ist eine - Pommernente. Ich lerne, dass sie unkompliziert und robust ist und ihr Fleisch hervorragend schmeckt. 😳

    Innerhalb von zwei Stunden sind die Temperaturen von 20 runter auf 9 Grad gefallen. 🥶 Mir passt das grad, denn so kann ich fleissig die Vogelarten repetieren: Greifvögel, Eulen, Rabenvögel, Wasservögel, Schnepfen und Tauben. Uff!📚

    Frei nach dem Motto ‚Stop Foodvaste‘ plündern wir unseren Kühlschrank und die Notvorräte. Yummi - Meisterkoch Schifflechner hat mit Bravour bestanden.

    Wir stossen auf unseren letzten Abend an, ich repetiere noch das heute Gelernte und ab ins Bett auf meine neue Matratze.

    Day 33

    33. German Alpine Route

    Today was the day we have both been so hyped for! Waking up to the best weather we have seen so far was a massive bonus. We headed off to the start of the Alpine Route. Enroute we stopped to do groceries and James gave the van a quick clean to get the salt off from the roads.

    We then headed south, edging around the Austrian border and through the mountains. We had a really cool mountain pass called Oberjoch, this has 108 turns within 4km and rises us upto 1230 mtrs! As you can imagine in a 3.5 tonne vehicle it wasn't ideal but we got up without anything coming out of the cupboards, clearly James' driving was very smooth 😂.

    Once at the top we stopped and enjoyed some snow and watching the skiiers, we then drove onto our next stop. When we were halfway there,we stopped and decided to go on a good mountain walk to embrace the gorgeous weather. We found a great park up close to the walk and headed off, it was a moderate (in alp standards) walk and still had a 450 mtr climb taking us up to the top. We got into deep snow and edged around the mountain next to a castle at the top. It was so cool to go and walk in the crisp snow with the sun shining.

    After a long and slippery walk back down, we headed to our campsite. We spent the evening washing clothes and sorting out the van. What a great day. Another beautiful day tomorrow, so we are heading to Neuschwanstein castle, which is the most impressive castle in the world, it features in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and inspired Walt Disney when designing the Disney castle.

    We went to the local pub called 'Wirthaus Wiesele' for a lovely German dinner and beer. We had a pork loin which was delicious.    Read more

    Eindpunt eerste dag

    Net aangekomen bij mijn overnachtingshotel en in plaats van de 1-persoonskamer heb ik het 3-persoons appartement 😊.
    De reis is goed gegaan, het was alleen ontzettend druk met veel files én wegwerkzaamheden én flink warm.
    Vandaag 22° C verschil gehad. Vanochtend 5°C en vanmiddag 27°C. Nu ff opfrissen en uitrusten en dan eens kijken of ze iets te drinken hebben voor een dorstige reiziger.
    En ik moest het even testen vanochtend,maar de 205 echte (GPS) kilometers per uur haalt hij makkelijk 😊, daarna ben ik maar weer "gewoon" verder gereden.    Read more

    Day 20

    Day 20 The rainy day that wasn’t

    We had a bit of a lay in this morning after a little bit of a stressful night. The forecast overnight was for rain but not much wind, so we had left the awning up (it’s much easier to deal with a damp dog when you have a bit of shelter outside the van). Shortly after going to sleep last night, I was rudely awoken by the van shaking in the wind…. I can hear the awning flapping about a bit and I’m trying to convince myself that it’s all fine but after 5 mins of being terrified that it’s going to get ripped to shreds, I woke up Charlie to say we need to go and wind the awning in. After a bit of discussion whether it really needed to happen, we chucked shoes and a coat on, bought in the chairs, got the winding stick from its using place in the back of the van safely wound it in (turns out some neighbours were doing the same!). Poor Marla was very confused….
    So - back to today! The forecast was for wet and miserable all day, so we decided to go shopping at a local outlet centre that we spotted on the drive in as well as a supermarket top up.
    At the supermarket we finally found the machines to feed drinks cans into to get back the €0.25 deposit we’ve had to pay each time we’ve bought a can. I thought it was quite a fun experience, I tried to video the process but my fat fingers got in the way - plus I’m pretty sure I’ll be the only person that found it exciting 😂.
    On to the outlet centre, they had a lot of wild flower areas in the car park which Marla loved having a sniff of. She was a superstar while we looked around the shops. There was only four shops, but they were big outlets with a lot of sportswear (Salomon, Vaude, Adidas etc)
    Charlie treated himself to a new pair of trainers and I picked up a new rain jacket and hat in case of chilly weather.
    We are lunch in the car park before heading back to camp, via a Rewe just round the corner to stick up on more Schwip Schwap (Coke and orange mix), sounds disgusting but is delicious!
    We spent the afternoon packing up the outside stuff, which was lovely and dry as the rain never arrived today! Charlie had picked us up some Radlers for the afternoon, a wasp loved mine so much that he jumped in to bathe in it.
    We also spent a while figuring out how to attach the red and while reflective board to the back of the cargo box as we’re heading to Italy tomorrow and it’s a legal requirement for anything sticking out. Dinner tonight was vegetarian bratwurst (when in Germany).
    We also opened the mini bottles of goodness knows what that we bought in Titisee, after one sip they got taken to the washing up area and safely disposed of, I’m sure they did a great job of cleaning the drains 😵
    We had a final wander around the lake just as the sun was setting. It’s beautiful round here, but I’m looking forward to new scenery tomorrow!    Read more

    Day 19

    Day 19 - Walkies and pastries

    Today was forecast to be the only dry day we have here so we took the opportunity to walk into the town of Füssen. The walk took us around the edge of the lake and then into town, mostly all using foot or cycle paths. It was a lovely little walk, albeit a little bit warm. The town itself has a lot of sweet little shops, we picked up a couple of pastries to enjoy. We headed back to camp in a slightly different route (shorter) as it was quite warm.
    We had taken a packed lunch with us so we stopped on a shaded bench on the way back and tucked in.
    Back at camp we met our fluffy neighbour (see photo!), Marla was not a fan and barked a lot. While we were inside eating dinner, we noticed this little chap having a wander around our pitch having escaped his awning. I hopped out to see if I could return him, but he just wanted to run away from me, so I used the power of sign language through their caravan door to let the owners know he’d done a runner. Cheeky beggar had to be tempted back in his house with a bowl of food.
    It’s just started to rain now, thankfully the afternoon forecast of thundery showers has not materialised. We had a few flashes of lightning when we took Marla out for her evening wander, but no thunder to go with it.    Read more

    Day 18

    Day 18 - Mountains and Castles

    Travel day again today and we are starting to get a good routine down of packing up the van, take Marla for a good stretch of the legs and lots of wee wees, then doing the final van bits (normally cleaning the loo and emptying the grey waste), then heading off. This morning we took advantage of an automated cleaning station for our toilet cassette, for a few euros of course. One of the other campers was absolutely fascinated and stayed to watch the whole show. Turned out the machine was a bit mean and toilet shamed us (see photo!). We headed straight to the closest petrol station with LPG to top up our tank, and our adapter nozzle worked perfectly! We now have an almost full tank, it wouldn’t let us fill it completely, no idea why not.
    Charlie also bought us some petrol station snackies of crisps and pretzels. They pretzels came in handy as we got caught in a bit of a traffic jam and had no where to stop when midday rolled around, and our tummies started to rumble. They were surprisingly delicious. We did manage to stop a while later in a random petrol station car park to have our packed lunch and let Marla out for a bit. Back on the road and the scenery sure is changing. We are now in the land of mountains and castles. It’s absolutely beautiful. We can see Neuschwanstein Castle from our new campsite and pitch. We are also on the shore of the Forggensee reservoir, which is the fifth-largest lake in Bavaria and the largest reservoir in Germany by area.
    Dinner tonight was a simple fare of pesto pasta and flageolet beans, the on site restaurant looks lovely but we weren’t that hungry so we’ll save that for another night.    Read more
